Concurrency Control and Recovery Methods for Multi-Dimensional Index Structures (다차원 색인구조를 위한 동시성제어 기법 및 회복기법)

  • In this paper, we propose an enhanced concurrency control algorithm that maximizes the concurrency of multi-dimensional index structures. The factors that deteriorate the concurrency of index structures are node splits and minimum bounding region (MBR) updates in multi-dimensional index structures. The proposed concurrency control algorithm introduces PLC(Partial Lock Coupling) technique to avoid lock coupling during MBR updates. Also, a new MBR update method that allows searchers to access nodes where MBR updates are being performed is proposed. To reduce the performance degradation by node splits the proposed algorithm holds exclusive latches not during whole split time but only during physical node split time that occupies the small part of a whole split process. For performance evaluation, we implement the proposed concurrency control algorithm and one of the existing link technique-based algorithms on MIDAS-3 that is a storage system of a BADA-4 DBMS. We show through various experiments that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm in terms of throughput and response time. Also, we propose a recovery protocol for our proposed concurrency control algorithm. The recovery protocol is designed to assure high concurrency and fast recovery.

Efficient Structural Join Technique using the Level Information of Indexed XML Documents (색인된 XML 문서에서 레벨 정보를 이용한 효과적인 구조 조인 기법)

  • As XML is widely used with the development of internet, many researches on the XML storage and query processing have been done Several index techniques have been proposed to efficiently process XML path queries. Recently, structural join has received murk attention as a method to protest the path query. Structural join technique process a path query by identifying the containment relationship of elements. Especially, it has an advantage that we can get the result set by simply comparing related elements only instead of scanning whole document. However during the comparison process, unnecessary elements that are not included in the result set can be scanned. So we propose a new technique, the level structural join. In this technique, we use both the relationship and the level distribution of elements in the path query. Using this technique, we tao improve the performance of query processing only by comparing elements with specific level in the target inverted level.

Analytical Study on the Index Terms in the Theological Journals (신학 학술지의 색인어에 관한 연구)

  • This study has analyzed the uncontrolled index terms in the theological journal, which were assigned by the authors and the LCSH subject headings in their form and meaning, compared to the standards of index terms and proposed much more sophisticated indexing system. In the uncontrolled index terms, noun phrases and compound terms are analyzed, this study found that indexers have to have theological knowledge and indexing techniques in order to assign more precise index terms. In the LCSH, unnecessary index terms and parenthetical qualifiers were analyzed. As a result of it, this study identified that the problems of inconsistency and errors raised from the basic index structure of LCSH.

  • 본 연구는 WWW 탐색도구의 검색성능을 평가하고, 또 검색성능에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 밝혀내기 위하여 수행되었다. 탐색도구의 데이터베이스 구축방식과 색인기법, 탐색기법, 이용자 인터페이스에 관련된 현황분석을 토대로 탐식도구의 검색성능에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 알아보기 위하여 검색실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과의 분석은 각 탐색도구의 검색효율과 검색결과의 중복도 및 유사도, 검색결과의 순위 및 적합성 순위부여 알고리즘. 웹 문서의 수집기법, 탐색도구의 최신성을 기준으로 이루어졌다.

  • From the viewpoint of that music melody has the similar features to time-series data, music melody is transformed to a time-series data with normalization and corrections and the similarity between melodies is defined as the Euclidean distance between the transformed time-series data. Then, based the similarity between melodies of a music object, melodies are clustered and the representative of each cluster is extracted as one of theme melodies for the music. To construct the theme melody index, a theme melody is represented as a point of the multidimensional metric space of M-tree. For retrieval of user's query melody, the query melody is also transformed into a time-series data by the same way of indexing phase. To retrieve the similar melodies to the query melody given by user from the theme melody index the range query search algorithm is used. By the implementation of the prototype system using the proposed theme melody index we show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) is considered as a core technology necessary for Ubiquitous computing, with its numerous possible applications in many practical areas, is being researched and studied actively by many around the world. WSN utilizes wireless sensors spatially placed to gather information regarding temperature, light condition, motion and change in speed of the objects within their surrounding environment. This paper implements an environmental information monitoring and indexing system based on spatial indexing technique by constructing a WSN system. This Multi-Query Indexing Technique coupled with wireless sensors provides an output based on the pre-defined built-in data index and new input from the sensors. If environment data is occured, system have to perform a proper action after collecting and analyzing this data. This is the purpose of implementing environment data monitoring system. We constructed environmental application using TinyOS and built tested with MICAz sensor bords. We designed and implemented a monitoring system which detects and multi-indexing process environmental data from distributed sensors.

  • The flash memory which is exploited on hand-held devices such as smart phones is a non-volatile storage and has the benefit that it can store mass data at a small sized chip. To process queries on the mass data stored in the flash memory, the index scheme should be exploited. However, since the write operation of the flash memory is slower than the read operation and the overwrite is not supported, it is required to reevaluate the performance of the index and find out the drawbacks. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a space division typed index scheme on the flash memory. To do this, we implement the fixed grid file and measure the average speeds of the query and update processing on a various condition and compare the value of the flash memory with that of the magnetic disk.

Sequence Stream Indexing Method using DFT and Bitmap in Sequence Data Warehouse (시퀀스 데이터웨어하우스에서 이산푸리에변환과 비트맵을 이용한 시퀀스 스트림 색인 기법)

  • Recently there has been many active researches on searching similar sequences from data generated with the passage of time. Those data are classified as time series data or sequence data and have different semantics from scalar data of traditional databases. In this paper similar sequence search retrieves sequences that have a similar trend of value changes. At first we have transformed the original sequences by applying DFT. The converted data are more suitable for trend analysis and they require less number of attributes for sequence comparisons. In addition we have developed a region-based query and we applied bitmap indexes which could show better performance in data warehouse. We have built bitmap indexes with varying number of attributes and we have found the least cost query plans for efficient similar sequence searches.

  • 문서 검색 시스템의 도치 색인 파일은 저장 공간과 검색 시간을 줄이기 위해 색인어 사전과 문서번호를 위한 이진 도치 파일 또는 비트벡터로 구성할 수 있다. 비트벡터는 1의 값을 가지는 비트만 저장함으로써 압축이 가능하나, Bit tree 압축 방법은 block의 크기가 어떻게 결정되느냐에 따라 압축률이 달라진다. 본 논문에서는 비트벡터에 나타나는 1의 값을 가지는 비트의 개수에 의해 bit tree 압축에 대한 최적의 block 크기를 결정하는 방법을 했다. 최적의 block의 크기는 (전체 비트벡터의 크기 / 1의 개수)보다 작거나 같은 최대의 2의 승수이다. 또한 block내의 1의 값을 가지는 비트의 위치에 의해 상대 위치값을 계산해서 block의 오른쪽 반에 나타나는 비트를 더 압축할 수 있는 기법을 구현한다. 본 논문에서 구현한 압축 기법은 Run Length를 이용한 방법에 비해서 13.65%, 기존의 Bit Tree 방법에 비해서 1.88%의 압축률을 개선했다.

  • 초분광 영상은 기존의 다중분광 영상보다 많은 밴드를 통해 넓은 범위의 파장 영역에 대한 반사율을 담고 있는 고차원 데이터이다. 이와 같은 고차원 데이터를 기존의 R-Tree, X-Tree와 같은 다차원 색인 방법을 사용하게 되면 차원의 저주(Course of Dimensionality)라는 문제가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 차원의 저주 문제를 해결하기 위해 피라미드 기법을 사용하여 초분광 영상 라이브러리의 색인을 구축하였다. 파라미드 기법은 D차원의 데이터를 2D차원의 피라미드에 사상하고, B+-트리를 이용하여 1차원적으로 색인하는 방법이다. 실험 결과 스펙트럼 매칭을 위한 영역질의 방법이 후보자 추출 시간, 데이터 접근 빈도 측면에서 순차적 접근 방법보다 좋은 성능을 나타냈다.
