Infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major health problem worldwide. Although a tremendous amount has been known about HBV, there have been obstacles in the study of HBV due to the narrow host range of HBV limited to humans and primates. In the present study, we investigated the susceptibility to HBV infection of mouse hepatoma cell line, Hepa-1c1c7. In addition, based on that human hepatocytes infected by HBV increase the expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-a, the inducibility of TNF-a expression by HBV in the cells was determined. HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) secretion was measured by the microparticle enzyme immunoassay and steady state mRNA expression was analyzed by quantitative competitive RT-PCR. Transient transfection of Hepa-1c1c7 cells with HBV expression vector resulted in a dose-dependent induction of TNF-a expression. Infection of Hepa-1c1c7 cells with the serum of HBV carrier also increased TNF-a mRNA expression. Both in the transfected and infected cells, HBV mRNA was expressed and significant HBsAg secretion was detected. There was no significant variation in $\beta-actin$ mRNA expression by HBV. These results demonstrate that HBV is infectious to Hepa-lc1c7 in vitro and the viral infection induces TNF-a expression, which suggests that Hepa-lc1c7, a mouse hepatoma cell line, may be a possible model system for analysis of various molecular aspects of HBV infection.

Objectives: Traffic accidents often occur to power tillers without reflective light in the dawn, evening and night. Because of this reason, there has been a 'campaign to attach reflective lights' to power-tillers in recent years. Therefore, the authors investigated the relationship between reflective light and traffic accidents involving power-tillers. Methods: We defined traffic accidents of power tillers as those cases of rear-end collision by a car in the dawn, evening or night. According to our definition, four cases were confirmed in Hyungok-myeon, Gyeongju and five cases in Gigye-myeon, Pohang. We selected a control group from people in the same village with similar age, sex, driving history and education. Results: The study group contained 9 accidents and 36 non-accidents. Power tillers with reflective light were 32 cases (72.7%) of 44 cases (excluded one case due to death). Of those, the status of reflective light was 'clean' in 18 cases (56.3%). The recognition that reflective light can prevent accidents was 'Yes' in 26 cases of 44 cases (59.1%). The recognition of the 'campaign to attach reflective lights' to power tillers was 'Yes' in 38 cases of 44 cases (86.4%). The recognition about the safety regulation of driving power-tillers was 'Yes' in 32 cases of 44 cases (72.7%). Odds ratio of traffic accidents for no reflective light was 7.00 (95% CI: 1.06-58.37). Conclusions: Although the 'campaign to attach reflective lights' to power tillers are going on, its effectiveness may unknown. Therefore, more extensive epidemiologic study is needed into the relationship between reflective light and power tiller traffic accidents, with effective administration of the government and the attention of medical persons.

In order to calculate the optimum installation interval between a speed hump and hump type crosswalk that are installed continuously in succession, this study examined the speed of a vehicle that passes different intervals between speed humps and hump type crosswalks from the approach section of a roundabout having a maximum speed limit of 30km/h; analyzed the effects of speed humps and hump type crosswalks installed continuously in succession on vehicle driving speed; and simulated the optimum installation height of hump type crosswalk. As a result, the following conclusion was drawn. First, it was found that the optimum interval between a speed hump and hump type crosswalk, which are the representative traffic calming techniques for reducing vehicle speed, to control vehicle speed under 30km/h is 30m. Second, as a result of comparing the deceleration of a vehicle that pass hump type crosswalks, it was found that if the installation interval is 65 m and above, a speed hump and hump type crosswalk had no effect. Therefore, it is desirable that the maximum installation interval between a speed hump and hump type crosswalk for controlling vehicle speed within a fixed road section should not exceed 65m. Third, the analysis showed that the optimum installation height of hump type crosswalk is 6-8cm in case vehicle speed at the approach section is 20km/h or lower, 8-10cm in case of 30km/h, and 10cm in case of 30km/h or higher, respectively. Fourth, even at a road section on which a speed hump and hump type crosswalk are installed, speed reduction effects may sometimes be insignificant due to a driver's studying effect, traffic conditions and so on. Thus, it is judged that speed reduction effects will be greater if several traffic calming techniques such as speed hump, chicane, and choker are applied at the same time. Therefore, in case of applying traffic calming techniques for the purpose of reducing vehicle speed in order to promote pedestrian safety, the composite application of several techniques should be considered.
The objective of this study is to present temporal-spatial variation of water resources on climate change impacts using the IPCC SRES A2 scenario and dynamical downscaling of the results (using the MM5 model with a resolution of 27km by 27km) at 139 sub-basins in Korea. The variation of runoff shows differences in the change of rate according to the each sub-basins and analysis durations. It has increased in the sub-basins located in Han river basin and east part of it, the other basins have decreased. In seasonal analysis, runoff in autumn and winter have increased, while in spring and summer have decreased. The results of frequency analyzing classified runoff(Low flow(Q$\leq$5mm), Normal flow(5$\geq$100mm)) show that low flow increase in most of the sub-basins for 2031-2060 and 2061-2090. In the case of high flow, it have higher frequency ranging from -100% to 500% than low flow. Regardless of the variation of mean runoff, maximum discharge appeared to be increase in process of time. The regression method is used to figure out the relationship between the rate of runoff change and mean temperature, mean precipitation under A2 scenario. The mean actual evapotranspirations from the regression equations increased by 3.4$\sim$5.3% for the change of $1^{\circ}C$. Also, for the precipitation change of $\pm$10%, runoff variety range is -18.2$\sim$+12.4% in Han River, -21.6$\sim$+14.6% in Nakdong River, -17.5$\sim$+11.5% in Gum River, -18.4$\sim$+10.6% in Sumjin River, -19.9$\sim$+12.7% Youngsan River basin.
To identify the potential area of gas hydrate in the Ulleung Basin, 2-D and 3-D seismic surveys using R/V Tamhae II were conducted in 2005 and 2006. Seismic survey equipment consisted of navigation system, recording system, streamer cable and air-gun source. For reliable velocity analysis in a deep sea area where water depths are mostly greater than 1,000 m and the target depth is up to about 500 msec interval below the seafloor, 3-km-long streamer and 1,035 $in^3$ tuned air-gun array were used. During the survey, a suite of quality control operations including source signature analysis, 2-D brute stack, RMS noise analysis and FK analysis were performed. The source signature was calculated to verify its conformity to quality specification and the gun dropout test was carried out to examine signature changes due to a single air gun's failure. From the online quality analysis, we could conclude that the overall data quality was very good even though some seismic data were affected by swell noise, parity error, spike noise and current rip noise. Especially, by checking the result of data quality enhancement using FK filtering and missing trace restoration technique for the 3-D seismic data inevitably contaminated with current rip noises, the acquired data were accepted and the field survey could be conducted continuously. Even in survey areas where the acquired data would be unsuitable for quality specification, the marine seismic survey efficiency could be improved by showing the possibility of noise suppression through onboard data processing.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stress distributions at the periodontal ligament (PDL) and displacements of the maxillary first molar when mesially directed force was applied under various molar angulations and rotations. A three dimensional finite element model of the maxiilary first molar and its periodontal ligament was made Upright position, mesially angulated position by $20^{\circ}$ and distally angulated position of the same degree were simulated to investigate the effect of molar angulation. An anteriorly directed force of 200g countertipping moment of 1,800gm-mm (9:1 moment/force ratio) and counterrotation moment of 1,000gm-mm (5:1 moment/force ratio) were applied in each situation. To evaluate the effect of molar rotation on the stress distribution, mesial-in rotation by $20^{\circ}$ and the same amount of distal-in rotation were simulated. The same force and moments were applied in each situation. The results were as follows: In all situations, there was no significant difference in mesially directed tooth displacement Also, any differences in stress distributions could not be found, in other words. there were no different mesial movements. Stress distributions and tooth displacement of the $20^{\circ}$ mesially angulated situation were very similar with those of the $20^{\circ}$ distal-in rotated situation. The same phenomenon was obserned between the $20^{\circ}$ distally angulated situation and $20^{\circ}$ mesial-in rotated situation. When the tooth was mesially angulated, or distal-in rotated, mesially directed force made the tooth rotate in the coronal plane. with its roots moving buccally, and its crown moving lingually. When the tooth was distally angulated, or mesial-in rotated, mesially directed force made the tooth rotate in the coronal plane, with its roots moving lingually and its crown moving buccally. When force is applied to au angulated or rotated molar, the orthodontist should understand that additional torque control is needed to prevent unwanted tooth rotation in the coronal plane.
To compare the effect of food waste compost(FWC) application on the sodicity of paddy and upland soil, laboratory experiment was conducted. Six kinds of FWC made of various mixing ratio of food waste and pig slurry as raw material were applied to paddy soil under submerged condition and to upland soil in field water capacity, and were kept at $25^{\circ}C$ under laboratory incubation. The higher the mixing ratio of food waste on making FWC, the higher the FWC showed Na content and EC. Mineralized ratio of cations in FWC during incubation showed no difference between paddy and upland soil. It was high in the order of Na>K>Mg>Ca as 99, 94, 71, and 71%, respectively. NaCl contents of FWC applied to soils against SAR and ESP were fitted well to first linear regression with extremely high significance($R^2=0.99$). Increasing rate of SAR and ESP was higher in upland soil than paddy soil by 2.3 times. The difference was considered to be caused by dilution effect which was exerted by the application of more soil to water ratio to paddy soil than to upland soil on SAR analysis in consideration of cultivating condition. The calculated values of $([Ca^{2+}+Mg^{2+}]/2)^{1/2}$ used as a denominator on SAR calculation showed a little difference among FWC treatments by 2.1~2.4, while [$Na^+$] used as a numerator showed much variance by 3.1~9.5. Therefore, as a parameter for the assessment of FWC quality affecting soil sodicity, the use of only Na content in FWC was proposed without regarding Ca and Mg contents. Soil Ex. Na contents showed extremely high correlation($R^2=0.99$) with ESP. Moreover, because the former can be more easily determined than the latter, soil Ex. Na content was proposed as a new sodicity index.

Zonal hydrographic section measurements at $39.7^{\circ}N$ were conducted between $129.0^{\circ}E$ and $131.3^{\circ}E$ from August 7 to 25 in 2017 using an underwater glider. The glider traveled about 440 km for about 18 days along the 106 line of the regular shipboard measurements in the National Institute of Fishery Science (NIFS) and obtained twice a hydrographic section with high horizontal resolution. Even under the strong East Korea Warm Current with maximum speed of 0.8 m/s across the section, the glider successfully maintained the designated path within an RMS distance of 400 m. By comparing with the NIFS shipboard hydrographic section, it is confirmed that high spatial resolution measurements obtained from a glider were necessary to properly observe front and eddy variability in the East Sea where a typical spatial scale is smaller than the open oceans. From the glider section measurements, a new lens-shaped eddy was found in the thermocline. The lens-shaped anticyclonic eddy had 10~13 km in horizonal width and about 200 m in height like a typical submesoscale eddy resided within the thermocline, which was firstly named as Korea intrathermocline eddy (Keddy). The Keddy has the distinguishing characteristics of a typical intrathermocline eddy, such as a central core with anomalously weak stratification, a convex shaped lens bounded by the stratification anomaly, an interior maximum of velocity at 170 m, no surface appearance of the geopotential field, a small or comparable horizontal width relative to the first baroclinic Rossby radius of deformation, and the Rossby nubmer of 0.7.

We performed simulations of shipping conditions to export 'Cheongdobansi' astringent persimmon to tropical regions. We stored the fruits at $0^{\circ}C$, $5^{\circ}C$, or $10^{\circ}C$ temperature for 15 days to simulate the transport conditions, and then maintained the fruits at $30^{\circ}C$ for 5 days to simulate the distribution condition. Variables that we focused on are 1) the transport temperature($0^{\circ}C$, $5^{\circ}C$, or $10^{\circ}C$) and 2) the treatment time of ethylene generator(before or after shipping). We examined the ripening ratio and quality of the fruits at the end of the shipping and at that of the distribution. The examination at the end of the shipping showed that all of the fruits were ripened at $10^{\circ}C$ transportation but not ripened at $0^{\circ}C$ or $5^{\circ}C$ transportation in the ethylene treated condition. The untreated fruits were not ripened regardless of the transportation temperature. The examination at the end of the distribution showed that all of the fruits were ripened at $5^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ transportation, while 38.5% of fruits were ripened at $0^{\circ}C$ transportation in the ethylene treated fruits before shipping. The fruits treated after shipping were 63.5% and 59.6% ripened at $0^{\circ}C$ and $5^{\circ}C$ transportation, respectively. Unexpectively, only 19.2 % of fruits treated after shipping ripened at $10^{\circ}C$ transportation.
Constructing attractive bundle offers depends on more than an understanding of the distribution of consumer preferences. Consumers are also sensitive to the framing of price information in a bundle offer. In classical economic theory, consumers' utility should not change as long as the total price paid stays same. However, even when total prices are identical, consumers' preferences toward a bundle product could be different depending on the format of price presentation and the locus of price discount. A weighted additive model predicts that the impact of a price discount on the overall evaluation of the bundle will be greater when the discount is assigned to the more important product in the bundle(Yadav 1995). Meanwhile, a reference dependent model asserts that it is better to assign a price discount to a tie-in component that has a negative valuation at its current offer price than to a focal product that has a positive valuation at its current offer price(Janiszewski and Cunha 2004). This paper has expanded previous research regarding price discount presentation format, investigating the reasons for mixed results of prior research and presenting new mechanisms for price discount framing effect. Prior research has hypothesized that bundling is used to sell a tie-in component with an offer price above the consumer's reference price plus a focal product of the same offer price with reference price(e.g., Janiszewski and Cunha 2004). However, this study suggests that bundling strategy can be used for increasing product's attractiveness through the synergy between components even when offer prices of bundle components are the same with reference prices. In this context, this study employed various realistic bundle sets with same price between offer price and reference price in the experiment. Hamilton and Srivastava(2008) demonstrated that when evaluating different partitions of the same total price, consumers prefer partitions in which the price of the high-benefit component is higher. This study determined that their mechanism can be applied to price discount presentation formats. This study hypothesized that price discount framing effect depends not on the negative perception of tie-in component with offer price above reference price but rather on the consumers' perceived consumption benefit in bundle product. This research also hypothesized that preference for low-benefit discount mechanism is that perceived consumption benefit reduces price sensitivity. Furthermore, this study investigated how consumers' concern for quality in a price discount--a factor not considered in previous research--influences price discount framing. Yadav(1995)'s experiment used only one magazine bundle of relatively low quality uncertainty and could not show the influence of perceived uncertainty of quality. This study assumed that as perceived uncertainty of quality increases, the price sensitivity mechanism for assigning the discount to low-benefit will increase. Further, this research investigated the moderating effect of uncertainty of quality in price discount framing. The results of the experiment showed that when evaluating different partitions of the same total price and the same amount of discounts, the partition that discounts in the price of low benefit component is preferred to the partition that decreases the price of high benefit component. This implies that price discount framing effect depends on the perceived consumption benefit. The results also demonstrated that consumers are more price sensitive to low benefit component and less price sensitive to high benefit component. Furthermore, the results showed that the influence of price discount presentation format on the evaluation of bundle product varies with the perceived uncertainty of quality in high consumption benefit. As perceived uncertainty of quality gradually increases, the preference for discounts in the price of low consumption benefit decreases. Besides, the results demonstrate that as perceived uncertainty of quality gradually increases, the effect of price sensitivity in consumption benefit also increases. This paper integrated prior research by using a new mechanism of perceived consumption benefit and moderating effect of perceived quality uncertainty, thus providing a clearer explanation for price discount framing effect.
