Cell Association Scheme for Uplink Heterogeneous Cellular Networks (이기종 셀룰러 네트워크에서의 상향 링크 셀 접속 기법)

  • In conventional single-tier networks, downlink based association is the best association scheme for the uplink association because all macro base stations have the same physical specification. However, in uplink heterogeneous cellular networks, a downlink based cell association cannot be the best for uplink any more because of the difference of physical specification between the different base station. In this paper, we will propose a uplink based cell association scheme, and devise performance metric for describing a uplink performance in heterogeneous cellular networks. Then, we will discuss the necessity of the uplink based association by observing outage probability, delay constraint outage probability, delay constraint outage capacity.

An Efficient Scheme for TDD LTE ICS Exploiting the Reciprocity of the Feedback Channel in TDD LTE Networks (TDD LTE 네트워크에서 궤환 채널의 Reciprocity를 이용한 효율적인 TDD LTE ICS 구조 설계)

  • It is essential to develop an estimation and cancellation algorithm for feedback signals in designing the interference cancellation systems (ICS) as a solution to extending the coverage of the TDD LTE networks. Unlike the radio access of FDD LTE networks, TDD networks utilize the same frequency band in downlink and uplink for radio access. For this reason, downlink and uplink are repeated in time and thus the estimation of the feedback signals in uplink and downlink, respectively, is periodically paused to cause performance degradation. In this study, the reciprocity of downlink and uplink is examined through experiments and exploiting the same frequency band in uplink and downlink, an efficient channel estimation and elimination algorithm is proposed since the algorithm utilizes the same structure for both downlink and uplink.

Uplink Interference Avoidance Scheme to Improve Femtocell Performance in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks (이기종 셀룰러 네트워크에서 펨토셀 성능향상을 위한 상향링크 간섭 회피 기법)

  • This paper proposes a cross-tier interference avoidance scheme to improve femtocell performance in single frequency heterogeneous cellular networks (SFHCN). The scheduled macrocell users located close femtocell base stations cause serious interference to those femtocells so that the performance of femtocell is dramatically deteriorated. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an interference avoidance scheme by reversing the uplink and downlink frames of such femtocells. After reversing the uplink and downlink frames, femtocell base station relays the macrocell user data as well as transmitting its own data. In the 1st relaying link, femtocell and macrocell users transmit their data respectively divided uplink frames and in the 2nd relaying link, femtocell base station transmit macrocell and femtocell data using a simultaneously superposition coding scheme. Computer simulation results confirm performance improvement of proposed scheme.

Energy-Efficient Uplink Power Control Based on the Flocking Model in Cellular Networks (셀룰러 네트워크에서 플로킹 모델 기반 에너지 효율적인 상향링크 전력 제어)

  • A distributed uplink power control algorithm based on flocking model is proposed to improve the energy efficiency of mobiles station (MS) in cellular networks. As each bird in a flock matches its velocity with the average velocity of the adjacent birds, each MS in a cell matches its uplink rate with the average uplink rate of the co-channel MSs in adjacent cells by controlling its transmission power. Results show that the proposed algorithm effectively reduces the power consumption in the MS, while maintaining a low outage probability, which eventually improves the energy efficiency of the MS.

  • 본 논문에서는 실제적인 다중 셀 하향링크 네트워크 중 하나인 간섭 브로드캐스트 채널에서 유망한 간섭 정렬 기술인 반복적 간섭 정렬 기술을 소개한다. 또한, 가정하는 네트워크에서 상향링크/하향링크 채널 사이의 채널 상호성을 활용함으로써 다중안테나(MIMO: multiple-input multiple-output) 다중셀 하향링크 네트워크를 위한 개선된 반복적 간섭 정렬 기술을 제안한다. 구체적으로, 제안한 기술은 다중사용자 MIMO 기반 반복적 간섭 정렬 알고리즘을 설계하기 위해 반복적 빔형성과 하향링크 간섭 정렬 이슈를 지능적으로 결합한다. 각 기지국에서는 전처리기를 설계하기 위해 두 개의 순차적인 빔형성 행렬을 사용하는데, 이는 간섭 누수로 불리는 타 셀 기지국으로부터 생성된 셀 간 간섭을 효율적으로 줄일 뿐만 아니라 같은 셀 안에서의 셀 내 간섭을 완벽히 제거가 가능하다. 송신 및 수신 빔형성 행렬은 수렴할 때까지 반복적으로 업데이트된다. 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통해 제안하는 간섭 정렬 기술이 기존 두 가지 반복적 간섭 정렬 기술과 비교하여 더 높은 합 용량을 나타냄을 보인다.

An AP Selection Scheme for Enhancement of Multimedia Streaming in Wireless Network Environments (무선 네트워크 환경에서 멀티미디어 서비스를 위한 AP 선정 기법)

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in the use of WLAN technology due to its easy deployment, flexibility and so on. Examples of WLAN applications range from standard internet services such as Web access to real-time services with strict latency/throughput requirements such as multimedia video and voice over IP on wireless network environments. Fair and efficient distribution of the traffic loads among APs(Access Points) has become an important issue for improved utilization of WLAN. This paper focuses on an AP selection scheme for achieving better load balance, and hence increasing network resource utilization for each user on wireless network environments. This scheme makes use of active scan patterns and the network delay as main parameters of load measurement and AP selection. This scheme attempts to estimate the AP traffic loads by observing the up/down delay and utilize the results to maximize the link resource efficiency through load balancing. We compared the proposed scheme with the original SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio)-based scheme using the NS-2(Network Simulation.2). We found that the proposed scheme improves the throughput by 12.5% and lower the network up/down link delay by 36.84% and 60.42%, respectively. All in all, the new scheme can significantly increase overall network throughput and reduce up/down delay while providing excellent quality for voice and video services.

User Scheduling Algorithm Based on Signal Quality and Inter-User Interference for Outage Minimization in Full-Duplex Cellular Networks (전이중 셀룰라 네트워크에서 아웃티지 최소화를 위한 신호 품질과 사용자간 간섭량 기반의 사용자 스케쥴링 알고리즘)

  • In a full-duplex (FD) wireless cellular network, uplink (UL) users induce the severe inter-user interference to downlink (DL) users. Therefore, a user scheduling that makes a pair of DL user and UL user to use the same radio resource simultaneously influences the system performances significantly. In this paper, we first formulate an optimization problem for user scheduling to minimize the occurrence of outage, aiming to guarantee the quality of service of users, and then we propose a suboptimal user scheduling algorithm with low complexity. The proposed scheduling algorithm is designed in a way where the DL user with a worse signal quality has a higher priority to choose its UL user that causes less interference. Simulation results show that the FD system using the proposed user scheduling algorithm achieves the optimal performance and significantly decreases the outage probability compared with the conventional half-duplex cellular system.

Distributed Throughput-Maximization Using the Up- and Downlink Duality in Wireless Networks (무선망에서의 상하향 링크 쌍대성 성질을 활용한 분산적 수율 최대화 기법)

  • We consider the throughput-maximization problem for both the up- and downlink in a wireless network with interference channels. For this purpose, we design an iterative and distributive uplink algorithm based on Lagrangian relaxation. Using the uplink power prices and network duality, we achieve throughput-maximization in the dual downlink that has a symmetric channel and an equal power budget compared to the uplink. The network duality we prove here is a generalized version of previous research [10], [11]. Computational tests show that the performance of the up- and downlink throughput for our algorithms is close to the optimal value for the channel orthogonality factor, ${\theta}{\in}$(0.5, 1]. On the other hand, when the channels are slightly orthogonal (${\theta}{\in}$(0, 0.5]), we observe some throughput degradation in the downlink. We have extended our analysis to the real downlink that has a nonsymmetric channel and an unequal power budget compared to the uplink. It is shown that the modified duality-based approach is thoroughly applied to the real downlink. Considering the complexity of the algorithms in [6] and [18], we conclude that these results are quite encouraging in terms of both performance and practical applicability of the generalized duality theorem.

Uplink scheduling scheme based on interference information for TDD cellular networks (TDD 셀룰러 네트워크를 위한 간섭 정보 기반의 상향 링크 스케쥴링 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheduling scheme to reduce the complexity and overhead in TDD uplink cellular networks. In a TDD network, users can estimate the interference causing to neighboring BSs by measuring the signals transmitted from them. In the existing max SGIR scheduling scheme, each user calculates SGIR and feeds back to BS. Then, the BS selects a user having the largest SGIR value to transmit data. This scheme has a problem that as the number of BSs increases, the number of interference channels to be measured by the users increases, and thus the hardware and algorithm complexity of the user increases. We propose a max SmGIR (Signal-to-max generating interference ratio) scheduling scheme that can reduce the user complexity by predicting the SGIR value based on only the largest interference information. According to computer simulations, the proposed scheme has similar performance to the existing max SGIR scheme despite this low complexity.

Joint User Scheduling and Power Control Considering Both Signal and Interference for Multi-Cell Networks (다중 셀 상향링크 네트워크에서 신호와 간섭을 동시에 고려하는 전력 제어 및 사용자 스케쥴링)

  • In this paper, we propose a distributed user scheduling with interference-aware power control (IAPC) to maximize signal to generating interference plus noise ratio (SGINR) in uplink multi-cell networks. Assuming that the channel reciprocity time-division duplexing (TDD) system is used, the channel state information (CSI) can be obtained at each user from pilot signals from other BSs. In the proposed scheduling, to be specific, each user reduces the transmit power if its generating interference to other BSs is larger than a predetermined threshold. Each BS selects the user with the largest SGINR among users. Simulation results show that the proposed technique significantly outperforms the existing user scheduling algorithms. It is worth noting that the proposed technique operates with distributed manner without information exchange among cells. Hence, it can be easily applied to the practical wireless systems like 3GPP LTE without significant modifications of the specification.
