  • '최선을 다하는 삶이 아름답다.' 결과도 중요하지만, 충실하게 엮어 가는 과정을 더욱 소중하게 생각하는 유종근 전라북도지사의 생활신조다. 경제학자이자 경제 행정가로서 국제적으로 이름을 날리던 유지사가 정치에 입문한 것은 군부독재에 맞서는 과정에서 자연스럽게 현실정책의 문제, 그리고 정치적인 문제까지 관심을 갖게되면서이다. 그래서 유지사는 도민과 함께 해 온 지난 5년여 동안, 도민의 소득 수준을 전국 상위권으로 향상시키고, 전라북도를 문화ㆍ환경ㆍ복지ㆍ관광 등 모든 분야에서 삶의 질이 앞서가는 퓽요로운 지역, 세계에서 가장 살기 좋은 지역으로 만들기위해 아름다운 최선을 다해 왔다. 도민과 하나된 힘으로 '새천년 새전북인' 운동을 내실있게 추진해 가겠다는 유지사의 확신과 자신감에 찬 모습에서 발전된 전북의 모습이 느껴져 왔다.

The winning probability in Korean series of Korean professional baseball (한국 프로야구 우승 결정방식에서의 우승확률)

  • In Korean professional baseball the championship team of the year is determined by the four series of games: semi-semi-playoff, semi-playoff, playoff and korean series. To the top 5 teams in a regular season privileges are given to play the games at post season. At semi-semi playoff the winner of two teams which are ranked at 4th and 5th place in the regular season can advance to the game of semi playoff. The winner at semi playoff advances to the playoff to play with the second place team in the regular season. Finally, the championship team is to be determined in the Korean series between the winner of the playoff and the first ranked team in the regular season. We propose methods of how to calculate the winning probabilities of each of high ranked 5 teams advancing to Korean series. From our proposed methods we can estimate the championship probabilities of each of high ranked 5 teams advancing to the Korean series only if we know the winning probabilities between two teams in the regular season or the post season.

  • Three conjectures as the criteria for developing differentiated science learning program for gifted elementary students were derived from the previous research report: 1) The students' reasons why certain educational programs were thought to be interesting or profitable could be classified into the 3 criteria; novelty, curiosity, participation. 2) Students used to think that the programs were interesting if at least anyone of the above 3 criteria is fulfilled. 3) They think, especially, that the programs were profitable if the curiosity criterion is satisfied. To check these conjectures, 47 students were investigated with a Likert type questionnair asking how much the given program is interesting and profitable to themselves after they finished a set of programs for gifted students.

  • Effects of leaf and pod removal on changes in dry weight and protein content of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] cultivar 'Hwangkeumkong' were measured at the research farm of Korea University in 1992. The upper 40% and lower 60% of leaves and pods were subjected to treatments at the growth stage of beginning pod(R3). Leaf dry weight of lower part was increased by upper leaf-lower pod removal, but seed dry weight of upper part was decreased. The upper leaf-lower pod removal also increased stem dry weight and decreased upper pod dry weight. Protein content was higher in lower leaves than upper leaves. Seed protein contents were decreased both upper leaf-lower pod removal and lower leaf-upper pod removal treatments. The upper leaf-lower pod removal showed the highest leaf and the lowest seed protein quantities among the five treatments. These results indicated that protein sources were moved from lower to upper parts but weak in remobilization from leaves for the long distance translocation during the reproductive growth period of soybean plants.an plants.

Effects of Water Stress at Anthesis on the Growth and Grain Maturation in Barley (대맥 개화기의 수분부족이 생장 및 등숙에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out to examine the effect of water stress at anthesis on the grain maturation and to interpret the immediate and resulting growth response in barley. The dry weight of root, stem, internode, flag leaf and grain under water stress was remarkably more reduced than that under no-water stress, respectively. Water stressed plants had heavier grain dry weight during 7.14 days after water stress than that under no-water stress, but this early response was reversed significantly in the later period. The relative turgidity of organs except grain under water stress was severely lowered than that under no-water stress. The net photosynthsis by rewatering after water stress had been kept at the lower level than that under no-water stress ti1l the late maturation.

  • In this paper, we propose active queue management mechanism (Active-WRED) to guarantee quality of the high priority service class in multi-class traffic service environment. In congestion situation, this mechanism increases drop probability of low priority traffic and reduces the drop probability of the high priority traffic, therefore it can improve the quality of the high priority service. In order to analyze the performance of our mechanism we introduce the stochastic analysis of a discrete-time queueing systems for the performance evaluation of the Active Queue Management (AQM) based congestion control mechanism called Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) using a two-state Markov-Modulated Bernoulli arrival process (MMBP-2) as the traffic source. A two-dimensional discrete-time Harkov chain is introduced to model the Active-WRED mechanism for two traffic classes (Guaranteed Service and Best Effort Service) where each dimension corresponds to a traffic class with its own parameters.

Effects of Concentrations of Nutrient Solution and Cu Stress on the Water Potential, Solute Potential and Turgor Pressure in Hydroponically Grown Muskmelon (양액농도와 Cu 스트레스가 양액재배 머스크멜론의 수분포텐셜, 침투포텐셜 및 팽압에 미치는 영향)

  • Water potential which is an physical chemistry and thermodynamic indicator expressed water status of plant root, stem and fruit could be use as a useful indicator for growth control of hydroponically grown muskmelon plant. Linear relationship was observed between EC and water potential of nutrient solution, consequently increment of EC related to the decreasing water potential and resulted with the alteration of water potential and solute potential of upper leaves. Rapid reduction in growth was observed in over 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of Cu concentration in the media and same tendency was recorded in the shoot fresh weight, root dry weight and chlorophyll content. Increment of Cu concentration in the nutrient solution leads to lower the growth rate and then the water potential of upper leaves. Turgor pressure was not affected the growth of hydroponically grown muskmelon and also Cu concentration of nutrient solution was not recognized the direct relationship to the growth characteristics of muskmelon. These results demonstrated that water potential of nutrient solution can be use as an useful indicator for water physiological comparison of plant growth in hydroponically grown muskmelon.

Effect of Capsule Position on the Seed Germination and Juvenile Growth of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) (삭과의 착생부위(着生部位)가 참깨종자(種子)의 발아(發芽) 및 초기생육(初期生育)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • To obtain the information on the germination and initial growth of the sesame, the seed of 6 sesame cultivars obtained from upper and lower position of plants were seeded and the results on the germination and initial growth were summarized as follows; 1. When the seeding time was delayed, the days to flower of all sesame cultivars were significantly decreased. And the shortening rate of days to flower by delaying seeding time showed significant differences among the sesame cultivars. 2. At all cultivars excluding IS 103, the germination percentage of the seeds obtained from lower position of sesame plant was significantly higher than those from upper position. 3. Germination percentage of IS 103 seeds from lower position of sesame plant was 20.0% at petri dish experiment and 75.0% at pot experiment and those from upper position of the stem was 17.0% at petri dish experiment and 72.5% at pot experiment, respectively. 4. The germination speed of all cultivars showed a same tendency as germination percentage, but the germination speed of cultivars at pot experiment was higher than those at petri dish experiment. 5. The sesame seedlings from lower position seed were increased in stem length, root length, leaf length and fresh weight than those from upper position seed. The germination percentage and the initial growth showed significant differences by the seed weight in same cultivar, however did not show any varietal differences.

A Low Tillering Ideotype of Rice Plant for Increasing Grain Yield Potential (벼 수량성 증가를 위한 이상적인 소얼성 초형)

  • Since IR8, the first high-yielding rice cultivar characterised by semidwarf and high-tillering, was released in 1966, rice yields during the last two decades have apparently reached a plateau and subsequent efforts to further improve yielding ability have not resulted in visible gains. At this point of time, a new ideotype of rice plant would be necessary to increase grain yield potential. This experiment was conducted to investigate the yield contribution of different tillers within a plant in relation to an ideo type of rice plant. A low-tillering, large panicled IR25588 was compared with a high-tillering, small panicled IR58. Based on spikelet number and grain weight per panicle, the top six panicles in both low- and high-tillering cultivarswere significantly bigger than those in the other panicles. The top six panicles were M, PI, P2, P3, P4 and S1P2 in both cultivars. Their tillers had 100% probability of occurring. The top six tillers were characterised by earlier initiation and heading, longer growth duration, greater leaf area. and heavier culm and total dry weight per tiller. The top six panicles, based on grain weight was mainly due to higher spikelet number per panicle with little differences in 1,000 grain weight and percent fertility. They had also a greater number of high -density grains. The top six panicles were significantly bigger than the rest of the panicles in both low- and high-tilliering types suggesting that a new rice ideotype having six or fewer potential tillers or panicles per paint with 200 to 250 spikelets per panicle (a low-tillering, paicle weight type) may help increase grain yield potential since they have been shown to be superior physio-morphologically to the rest of the tillers.
