Characteristics of Regulated Heavy Metals Content in Wastes Emitted from Industrial Processes (산업공정폐기물 중 규제대상 중금속류의 함량 특성)

  • This study focused on the content characteristics of regulated hazardous substances in specific wastes. Regulated heavy metal such as Cu, Pb, Cd analyzed the 108 waste samples that it choice from the representative facilities. Analytical method used content test method, suggested on the basis of analytical method of developing country, and the results as compared with limited standard in Austria Petroleum, primary metalworking and electronic industry had high content of Cu more than 100 mg/kg of Austria limited standard. Pb detected high level concentration the sample that dust producted at Primary metalworking industry. In case of total Cr was show that high content at KSIC 18, 19, 23 etc but result analyzed Cr(VI), it was shown that high level at dust producted from sewing clothes and fur industry.

Evaluation of Physico-Mechanical Properties and Durability of Larix kaempferi Wood Heat-Treated by Hot Air (고온 열기 처리에 의한 낙엽송재의 물리·역학적 성능 및 내부후성능 변화 고찰)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate quantitatively some properties (density, equilibrium moisture content, shrinkage, water vapor adsorption, water absorptivity, compressive strength, bending strength, hardness and decay resistance) of Larix kaempferi lumber which was heat-treated by hot air and has been used commercially in Korea. Equilibrium moisture content of the heat-treated wood was decreased with increase of hydrophobicity. Dimensional stability of the wood was improved with decrease of shrinkage, water vapor adsorption and free water absorptivity. Also, with the thermo-chemical changes of wood component and lower equilibrium moisture content, decay resistance and compressive strength of heat-treated wood were increased. But, bending strength and hardness of wood were decreased.

  • Chitin is known as biodegradable natural polymer. But, in spite of various application of chitin from waste marine sources, commercial use of chitin has been limited due to highly resistance to chemicals and the absense of proper solvents. Therefore, we studied that another viscosity chitosan were prepared from chitin which were deacetylated under various concentration of NaOH solution, reaction time and temperature by the application of Mirna's method. The major parameters for these manufacturing methods were found to be concentration of alkali solution, reaction time and temperature etc. Besides, we studied that various chitosan derivatives were prepared from chitin by crosslinkage with epichlorohydrin and 1,3-dichloropropanol. The effects of these parameters on another viscosity(molecular weight) chitosan and crosslinked chitosan dervatives were investigated by various analysis apparatus. SEM analysis showed that both chitin and chitosan had a particle shaped morphology and another molecular weight chitosan according to the particle size was much smaller than that of chitin.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out changing process of 'Kyungsung Libraries' in the Japanese colonial era by comparing and analyzing through the books and Journals of Korea and Japan. The subject scopes of this study are as follows ; 1) 'Kyungsung Libraries' in Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry founded by Japanese named, 'San Gu Jung(Yamaguchi Sei)' 2) 'Kyungsung Libraries' founded by 'Yoon Ik Sun' in 'Chiwoonjung' 3) 'Kyungsung Libraries' founded by 'Lee Bum Sung' beside 'Jongno Tapgol Park'. This study studies each three libraries and simultaneously, relationship between mutual relation of these three libraries and other libraries. As a results, the books of San Gu Jung(Yamaguchi Sei)'s library were inherited to those of other two libraries. Also, Despite of eagerly practicing public service of the age, however, independent development of each of two library founded by Koreans was very limited under the influence of Japanese colonial.

  • The analytical performance of four commercially-available pneumatic nebulizers(Meinhard, Cross-flow, Babington, ESI PFA) was evaluated using inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and ICP-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) instruments. The performance of an inert concentric nebulizer and a modified conespray nebulizer, made in Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), is compared with that of the four commercial nebulizers. Variation of sample introduction efficiency was investigated as carrier argon pressure and sample uptake rate were changed. Variation of sensitivity, signal stability, blank intensity and oxide/hydride ratios were also studied when the nebulizers were connected to the ICP-MS and ICP-AES instruments. It was found that good analytical result such as high sensitivity, low blank, stable signal and so on can be obtained with judicious selection of the nebulizer depending on the type of sample, sample amount, type of analytical instrument and analyte.

  • Commercially widely used antitumor agents such as hydroxy urea, 6-mercaptopurine monohydrate, cytosine arabinoside, cyclophosphamide monohydrate and uracil were reacted with 3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl isocyanate and the product hydrolyzed to give silica nanoparticles bound antitumor agents ranging from 10 nm to micron-sized aggregates. The silyl isocyanate derivative was also reacted neat with water to give hybrid organicsilicananoparticles containing $-CH_2-CH_2-CH_2-NH-COOH$ or the corresponding decarboxylated propylamine groups depending on solvent and temperature employed. In vitro tests these functionalized silica nanoparticles were effective in the treatment of malignant tumor cells but had little or no effect on normal cells. Malignant human lung, ovarian, melanoma, CNS(Central nervous system) and colon tumor cells were used in this research. The use of silica as a carrier medium in the present research serves as a model material due to its ready functionalization via silation. The proof of concept established by the results suggests that the technique may be applied to other, more biocompatible carrier nanoparticles.

Hydrophilicity Improvement of Polyamide66/Polyphenylene Blends by Plasma Surface Treatment (Polyamide66/Polyphenylene 블렌드의 플라스마 표면처리를 통한 친수성 향상)

  • It has been reported that plasma treatments are used to modify surface properties of polymers such as adhesivity hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity. Using plasma treatment, interfacial pro-perty can be introduced to a polymer surface without affecting the desired bulk properties of a material. In this study, commercial polyamide66 (PA66) /polyphenylene (PPE) polymer was modified by plasma treatment under a various gas specious for elimination of organic compound and polymer surface property with hvdrophilicity. PA66/PPE polymer with hydrophilicity was treated by RF plasma vacuum system under a various parameter such as gas specious, processing time and partial pressure. Hydrophilicity of PA66/PPE was confirmed by calculation of the surface free energy from contact angle measurement. The highest surface free energy of $50.03 mJ/m^2$ with the lowest contact angle of $14^{\circ}$ was obtained at plasma process power of 100 W, treatment time of 2 min and $Ar/O_2$ gases of 100 and 200 sccm. Moreover the change of organic compounds on the polymer surface was analyzed by fourier transforms infrared spectrometry (FTIR).

  • As demand for IT services increase, which are based on SOA and cloud computing, service level agreements (SLAs) have received more attention in the parties concerned. An SLA is usually a paper contract written in natural language. SLA management tools which are commercially available, implement SLAs implicitly in the application with a procedural language. This makes automation of SLA management difficult. It is also laborious to maintain contract management systems because changes in a contract give rise to extensive modifications in the source code. We see the source of the trouble is the existence of documentary SLAs (paper contracts) and corresponding executable SLAs (contracts coded in the procedural language). In this paper, to resolve the current SLA management problems we propose an active SLM (Active Service Level Management) system, which is based on the active SLA (Active Service Level Agreement). In the proposed system, the separated management and processing of dual SLAs can be unified into a single process with the introduction of active SLAs (ASLAs).

Electrochemical Properties of Commercial NCA Cathode Materials for High Capacity of Lithium Ion Battery (상용 고용량 리튬이온이차전지용 NCA 양극활물질의 전기화학적 특성)

  • In order to investigate the electrochemical properties and the particle size effect of $LiNi_{1-x-y}Co_xAl_yO_2$ (x=0.15, y=0.045 or 0.05, NCA) for lithium ion batteries (LIBs), two commercial NCA cathode materials (NCA#1, NCA#2) were used as cathode materials for LIB. The average particle size of the NCA#1 which consisted of uniform spherical particles was found to be approximately $5m{\mu}$. NCA#2 consisted of particles with bimodal size distribution of approximately $5m{\mu}$ and $11m{\mu}$. From the results of charge-discharge performance test, a high initial discharge capacity of 197.0 mAh/g was obtained with NCA#2, which is a higher value than that with NCA#1. The cycle retentions of NCA#1 and NCA#2 up to 30 cycles were 92% and 94%, respectively.

Oxidation Stability of Fish Oil Containing Commercially Available Antioxidants (상업용 천연 항산화제의 사용에 다른 어유의 산화 안정성 연구)

  • The effects of commercially available antioxidants in fish oil were studied. Induction period of fish oil was determined from the oxidation curve by rancin\mat. The longest Induction period was observed with catechin (1,000 ppm). Among the rosemary extracts (Antox1, Antox2, Antox3), the most effective antioxidant effect was observed with Antox3 even though higher amount (5,000 ppm) was needed compared to catechin. Compared to oder of control, catechin rather than Antox3 did not affect much the odor changes. When ascorbic palmitate, vitamin C, gallic acid, EDTA, citric acid, or propyl gallate as a synergist were added with catechin (500 ppm), vitamin C and ascorbic palmitate prolonged the induction period significantly. This effect was also observed with Antox3 (1,000 ppm). Among all combinations of catechin (500 ppm) and Antox3 (1,000 ppm) with synergists, the longest Induction period was obtained from Antox3 with vitamin C (200 ppm), suggesting that this combination is most effective combination for retarding the oxidation in fish oil.
