Root resorption of the permanent maxillary incisors can occur due to ectopic eruption of the permanent canines. Severe root resorption threatens the long-term survival of the affected incisors. The aim of the present study was to identify risk factors for root resorption of the maxillary incisors associated with impacted maxillary canines. In the present study, we retrospectively analyzed the Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans of 65 children and adolescents with ectopically erupting maxillary canines (total of 88 impacted canines). Root resorption of central incisors was significantly associated with the mesiodistal position and root development of the adjacent canine. Root resorption of lateral incisors was significantly associated with sex, age, and the buccolingual and vertical position of the adjacent canine. However, enlargement of the dental follicle was not significantly associated with root resorption of adjacent incisors. Although incisor resorption is difficult to diagnose and predict, our findings suggest that changes in the dental follicles of the erupting maxillary canines do not cause resorption of the adjacent permanent incisors. CBCT should be utilized to ensure early diagnosis of impacted canines and precise evaluation of incisor root resorption.
The primary objective of this study was to make the prediction percentile tabulation of the sum of mesiodistal widths of the unerupted permanent canines and premolars derived from the sum of mesiodistal widths of the erupted permanent incisors in normal and crowding groups. Crowding group consisted of 85 pairs of dental casts (42 males and 43 females) with more than 4mm of crowding in anteriors. Normal group consisted of 109 pairs of dental casts (65 males and 44 females) with less than 1mm of spacing or crowding in anteriors. The mesiodistal crown diameters of permanent teeth were measured from the dental casts using the sliding calipers (Mitutoyo Co., Japan). From the study, the obtained results were as follows: There were not significant differences between male and female in both groups on the basis of the ratios between the sum of mesiodistal widths of incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of canines and premolars. There was not significant difference between two groups on the basis of the ratio between the sum of mesiodistal widths of mandibular incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of mandibular canines and premolars and was significant differences between two groups on the basis of the ratio between the sum of mesiodistal widths of mandibular incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of maxillary canines and premolars. There was significant difference between two groups on the basis of the ratio between the sum of mesiodistal widths of maxillary incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of mandibular canines and premolars. There was significant difference between two groups on the basis of the ratio between the sum of mesiodistal widths of maxillary incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of maxillary canines and premolars. The percentile prediction tabulations were made in an attempt to predict the sum of mesiodistal widths of the unerupted permanent canines and premolars derived from the sum of mesiodistal widths of the erupted permanent mandibular incisors in each group. Supernumerary teeth are defined as an excess in the number of teeth when compared to the normal dental formula. They are more prevalent in the permanent dentition than the primary dentition. Supernumerary teeth can occur in the maxilla, mandible, or both. But the majority are found in the maxilla and most of it is found in the premaxilla region The present cases documents about the uncommon cases of supernumarary teeth on maxillarty premolar area and mandibular incisal area.
The purpose of this study was to find the distribution and measurement of compressive and tensile stress when intrusi- on arch wire is forced engage with upper canine and to analysis stress at each section through FEM. And we compare compressive and tensile ratio at each section. The results were as follows. 1. At FA point and cemento-enamel junction of upper canine, compressive and tensile force ratio is about the same. 2. At apex, compressive force is the four times as tensile force. ; In intrusion, we show root resorption at apex. 3. At Cemento-enamel junction, the compressive and tensile force show the maximun value except FA Point.

Maxillary canines have less anatomical diversities than other teeth. They usually have a single root and root canal. This report describes an endodontic treatment of a maxillary canine with two separated root canals which have not been reported through the demonstration of radiography and computerized tomography (CT). Even though appropriated endodontic treatment has been performed, the severe pain could happen due to lack of consideration of anatomical variations of the teeth. Therefore, the clinicians should be well aware of the possibility of anatomical variations in the root canal system during endodontic treatment even if the number of root canals is obvious such as in this case.

Tooth impaction is defined as a cessation of the eruption of a tooth at the level of the oral mucosa or alveolar bone. Maxillary canines are the most frequently impacted teeth next to the third molar. Maxillary canine impaction is associated with congenital missing of lateral incisors, peg lateralis and genetic factors such as ectopic positioning of a tooth germ. The clinicians have an important role in early detection of tooth impaction for prevention of esthetic and functional problems. There are specific methods to treat impacted tooth for different conditions. In this case, an 11-year-old girl with a horizontally impacted maxillary right canine in a palatal position was treated through orthodontic traction along with surgical button attachment procedure. On regaining of eruption space, canine traction was performed. At the completion of treatment, the canine was positioned fairly within the arch with proper keratinized gingiva and complications such as root resorption were not observed.

The maxillary canine is especially important as it has the longest root, provides guidance for lateral movement of the mandible and masticatory function and is a key in esthetics due to its position. Maxillary canine has the longest time to develop and a complex route from the place of formation to the site of eruption, and so it is prone to impaction more than other teeth. The clinician should consider the various treatment options : (a) No treatment and observation, (b) surgical exposure and orthodontic traction (c) autotransplantation (d) extraction. Surgical exposure of the canine and orthodontic treatment to bring the tooth into the line of occlusion is considered the most desirable approach. This case presents the results of treatment for impacted maxillary canine by surgical exposure and orthodontic tooth movement.

The aim of this study was to identify factors that affect the treatment duration and to predict the duration of forced eruption in impacted maxillary canines using panoramic radiographs and cone-beam computed tomography. This retrospective study was performed by reviewing medical records and radiographs of 73 patients (93 impacted maxillary canines) from the age of 8 to 18 years who were treated with surgical and orthodontic interventions on impacted maxillary canines from January 2012 to December 2020 in Ajou University Dental Hospital. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that the distance between the canine cusp tip and the occlusal plane, mesio-distal location, bucco-palatal location, patient's age, and use of rapid palatal expansion are significant factors with regard to the duration of forced eruption. There was a statistically significant correlation of the treatment duration with the angulation between the axis of the canine and the occlusal plane and unilateral or bilateral impaction. It can be concluded that the duration of forced eruption in impacted maxillary canines could be shorter when the impacted canine is closer to the occlusal plane and located in the lateral incisor or canine area, buccal or middle, the patient is younger and uses rapid palatal expansion.

Tooth transposition is an anomaly of eruption characterized by the interchanged positions of two adjacent teeth, which is divided into complete and incomplete transposition. There are three common approaches for treating transposition: aligning the involved teeth in their transposed positions, moving them to their correct anatomic position in the arch and extracting one of the transposed teeth. Considerations in treatment plans are esthetic, function, risk of jeopardizing the roots and damaging the supporting structures, position of the root apex, developmental stages of teeth and expected compliance. The presented case reports described one maxillary canine-the first premolar transposition and two mandibular lateral incisor-canine transpositions. The former transposed teeth were arranged in their transposed position, and the latter transposed teeth were rearranged into their normal position.

Impacted maxillary canines are the most frequently impacted teeth after the third molars. The exact etiology of impacted maxillary canines is unknown, but several complications may result from impacted maxillary canines. An early detection of ectopically erupting teeth can lead to performing interceptive treatment such as early extraction of primary canine and provide the best long-term results. In the absence of prevention, clinicians should consider orthodontic treatment followed by surgical exposure of the canine to bring it into occlusion. However, in cases when the finding ectopically erupting teeth and severe root resorption of adjacent teeth are found late, malposed canine can replace the injured teeth. In these presented cases, early diagnosis and treatment of ectopic eruption and root resorption were not performed. The maxillary incisor replacement with ectopically erupting canine can be the alternative treatment of choice with successful results. The reconstructed canine is planned to be checked periodically for the condition of composite resin restoration. Orthodontic treatment and dental implant are planned. This report shows that when early diagnosis was not done, maxillary incisor replacement with ectopically erupting canine could prevent uncertain prognosis of the adjacent teeth with root resorption and provide esthetic satisfactory with time saved and cost reduced.
