  • In this paper, a series of experiment is performed for a scaled hovering rotor in a semi-anechoic chamber and the results are compared to the noise spectra predicted by using Lowson's loading noise equation and FW-H equation. It was founded that the sound directivity pattern for both experiments and predictions are similar in their trend. Meanwhile the FW-H equation showed better agreement with experiments in the near-field noise spectra, but at the far-field the Lowson's equation performed better. The discrete noise are known to be proportional to the loading on the blades, which can be controlled by collective pitch angle of the blades. It was founded that the predicted spectra with FW-H equation come close to the measured noise spectra in low collective pitch, but in high collective pitch angles the Lowson's equation be more reliable.

  • In order to rationally design a new conceptual submerged floating railway, prediction of wave forces applied to the structure is very important. In this paper, equations to calculate such forces based on hydrodynamic theories were proposed and model tests were carried out. Inertia forces and drag forces, calculated using Morison's equation and the linear small amplitude wave theory, were in good agreement with the results from model tests conducted in a wave making tank. Drag forces were negligible compared with inertia forces. Also, wave forces showed linear variation with the changing wave heights. It was revealed that the linear wave theory and Morison's equation can give a simple and useful solution for the prediction of wave forces in the initial design stage of a submerged floating railway.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the heat transfer loss of covering materials in a single-span plastic greenhouse under the steady-state wind environment. To achieve this objective, the following were conducted: (1) design of a small-scaled wind tunnel (SCWT) to analyze heat losses of the greenhouse and its performance; (2) determination of the overall heat transfer coefficient (OHTC) for the covering materials using a small-scaled greenhouse model. The SCWT consists of the blowing, dispersion, steady flow, reduction and testing areas. Each part of the SCWT was customized and designed to maintain air flow at steady state and to minimize the variances in the SCWT test. In this study, the OHTCs of the covering materials were calculated by separating each with the roof, side wall, front and back of the small-scaled greenhouse model. The results of this study show that the OHTC of the roof increases as wind speed increases but the zones in which the increase rate of the OHTC decreased, were distinguished by wind tunnel wing speed of 2 ms-1. For the side wall, the increase rate of the OHTC was particularly higher in the 0-1 ms-1 zone.

  • Rayleigh-Benard natural convection experiments were carried out as the preliminary experiment to simulate the natural convection of the core melt at the severe accident conditions. This work focused on the influences of plate separation distance(s), the existence of the side walls and crust geometries of upper and lower plates. Based upon the analogy concept, a cupric acid-copper sulfate electroplating system($H_2SO_4-CuSO_4$) was employed as the mass transfer system and measurements were made for $Ra_s$ ranging from $1.06{\times}10^7$ to $2.91{\times}10^{10}$. The test results measured for a single horizontal plate were in good agreement with the correlation reported by McAdams and those for two horizontal plates showed the similar trend to the existing Rayleigh-Benard heat transfer correlations developed by Dropkin and Somerscales, Globe and Dropkin. The measured heat transfer rate decreased with the increasing separation distance between the two plates and became similar to those for a single horizontal plate. Fin arrays mounted on both upper and lower plates enhanced the heat transfer rates. For all cases, the heat transfer rates measured for open side walls are higher than those for closed ones.

  • Recently, as the occurrence of earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.0 or higher in Korea increases, many studies and interests in seismic design are increasing. A lot of damage was caused by the Pohang earthquake in 2017, and port facilities such as a breakwater were also damaged. This study analyzed the dynamic behavior of the upright breakwater, an external facility, based on a centrifugal model experiment. A series of centrifugal model test was conducted by three different seismic waves such as Pohang Earthquake Wave, Artificial Wave I, and II. As a result, the dynamic behavior of upright breakwater was analyzed. The review showed that acceleration amplification tends to be suppressed as breakwater foundation ground increases support and stiffness through DCM reinforcement and riprap replacement.

  • This study was carried out to grasp the job stress and intention to change their jobs of nurses at general hospitals by their socio-demographic, job-related and health-related behavior characteristics and especially to investigate their relationship to the job stress and intention to change their jobs. The subjects were 355 nurses working at three university hospitals located in Daejeon City, and data were collected by a survey using self-administered questionnaires structured from April 1 to May 31, 2012. As a results, the average point of the nurses' intention to change jobs by the causes for job stress was significantly higher in the boss group with low support than in that with high support while it was higher in colleague group with low support than in that with high support. To look into the correlation between the points of intention to change their jobs and the causes for job stress, their intention to change their jobs showed a significant negative correlation to the boss's support and colleagues' support while there was no significant relationship with job demands and job autonomy. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression, age, drinking coffee, department, job satisfaction, the boss's support and colleagues' support were selected as significant related variables affecting the nurses' intention to change their jobs and these variables' descriptive power was 29.4%. Viewed from the above results, it is suggested that the nurses' job stress and intention to change their jobs has a significant relationship with various variables such as socio-demographic, health-related behavior and job-related characteristics. In addition, there were a significant positive correlation between the causes for the job stress cause and intention to change their jobs, and among the causes for the job stress, support by their boss or colleagues turned out to be those affecting their intention to change their jobs. Thus, it is considered that it is necessary to minimize the nurses' job stress and at the same time to seek for specific measures for preventing their turnover.

  • For manufacturing trimming-free plates which have rectangular shaped edges and straight edges in as-rolled state, it is necessary to investigate rolling characteristics of overlap, bulge and width deviation etc. in a standardized plate rolling process. The present wok is for preventing edge overlap as the first approach to develop trimming-free plate rolling technique. An experimental study on overlap control was done with plasticine material in order to examine influence factors and find a control method by use of a laboratory mill scaled down to one tenth of actual production mill. It was found that edge overlapping was increased with the increase of slab thickness and of broadside rolling ratio, but decreased with the increase of chamfered amount on slab edges. In the simulated rolling experiment with edge chamfered slabs of various chamfered angles, the chamfered angle of 60.deg. was the most effective one for reducing overlapping irrespective of slab thickness and of broadside rolling ratio.

  • A series of hydraulic model tests have been conducted for a Parshall flume which was designed for streamflow measurements of two experimental basins in Banwol New Industrial Town. the purpose being to study the effect of urbanizations on the watershed hydrology. The model scale was determined based on the 100-year flood discharge of the basins considering the discharge cf the basins considering the discharge capacity of the hydraulic laboratory where the whole tests were conducted. The calibration equations for depth-discharge relations were derived by analyzing the model test data and were compared with those of Parshall's work. The discharge calibration for the prototype flume, which is to be constructed at the outlets of the experimental basins, was obtained through the analysis of data converted from the model test data by the laws of similarity.
