A Comparative Study on the Confucian Characteristics of the Space for Men on the Upper-Class House of Korea and China (한국ㆍ중국 상류주택 남성공간의 유교적 특성에 관한 비교연구)

  • This comparative study on the confucian characteristics of the space for men on the upper-class house took two approaches. Firstly, even though Korea and China accepted same Confucianism, they developed their own Confucian cultures and differentiated house types. Therefore, the process of developing various type of house can be observed as to adopting Confucianism. Secondly, identification of each country can be appeared by looking into the house developing process. Preceding studies about traditional houses of Korea and China usually focused on style analysis. However, this study approaches to house arrangement through understanding the base of each culture and people.

A comparison study of Wumul-maru components in upper class Chosun dynasty (조선시대 상류주택의 사랑대청 우물마루에 관한 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare with the characteristics of Wumul-maru components in upper class Chosun dynasty. Physical trace method was used for this study. The samples were taken from the Sarang-taechong of 6 traditional Korean houses, Yunkyungdang, the ancient Chusa estate, Sunkyojand, Chunghyodang, Yangjindang, Unjoru. The major findings were summarized as follows; 1) Regarding to the scale characteristics, the number of changguit'ul(long board) was 1, chungguit'ul(middle-length board) 5, tongguit'ul(center board) 8m and maruno. 98, and the size of changguit'ul was 253$\times$4478mm, chungguit'ul 182$\times$2396mm, tongguit'ul 179$\times$2310mm, and marunol 247$\times$574mm. 2) Regarding to the proportion characteristics, the proportion of changguit'ul was 1:18.2, chungguit'ul 1:16.7, tongguit'ul 1:12.9, and marunol 1:2.62 and the proportion of components was 1:3:4:17.

Visual relationships between Sarangche Numaru, Sarang Madang and Outer space (사랑채 누마루와 사랑마당 및 외부차경공간의 시각적 관계 -영남지방 조선시대 15~16세기 상류주택을 중심으로-)

  • This study is conducted to understand the different characteristic of the inner and outer spacing of Sarangche Numaru according to their geographical location conditions during its construction in 15-16th century. The results showed; first, for hill-type, the side of the Numaru that is in contact with the Sarang Madang makes a short side of Sarangche Numaru regardless of the Orientation and for flatland-type, the side of the Numaru in contact with the Sarang Madang makes a long side of Sarangche Numaru. Secondly, for hill-type, Sarang Madang is not focused as the main view, instead it supports the view of the mountains that are around however, for flatland-type, Sarang Madang is focused as the main view therefore, an inner garden is formed inside Sarang Madang. Lastly, for hill-type, Cho Shan is used as an appropriative landscape while for flatland-type, Sarang Madang is used as the main view and an inner garden is formed because of the diversification of Sarang Madang's function.
