Changes of Fatty Acid during Germination by Seed Pretreatment, SMP, in Tobacco (SMP종자 전처리에 의한 담배 종자 발아과정의 지방산 변화)

  • We studied the effect of SMP (solid matrix priming) treatment, seed pretreatment for germination enhancement, to tobacco seeds by measurement of germination rate and contents of fatty acid, energy source for tobacco germination. The results were as follows. In result of germination test, germinative ability was the highest in KF109 at nine day treatment and in KB108 at seven day treatment. The composition of fatty acid in tobacco seed confirmed by gas chromatography were palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid+elaidic acid, linoleic acid+linole­laidic acid, and $\alpha-linolenic$ acid. Palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and elaidic acid, and linoleic acid and linole-laidic acid were highest in KF109 at eight or nine day treatment and in KB108 at six or seven day treatment. Especially, content of oleic acid + elaidic acid, and linoleic acid+linolelaidic acid were changed largely by treatment, so these might be used for index to examine treatment effect.

Effect of Carbon Felt Oxidation Methods on the Electrode Performance of Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (탄소펠트의 산화처리 방법이 바나듐 레독스 흐름 전지의 전극 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Carbon felt surface was modified by heat or acid treatment in order to use for the electrode of a redox-flow battery. Polymers on the surface of carbon felt was removed and oxygen-containing functional group was attached after the thermal treatment of carbon felt. Thermal treatment was better for the stability of the carbon structure than the acid treatment. Oxygen-containing functional group on the thermally treated carbon felt at 500$^{\circ}C$ was confirmed by XPS and elementary analysis. BET surface area was increased from nearly zero to 96 $m^2/g$. Thermally treated carbon felt at 500$^{\circ}C$ showed lower activation polarization than the thermally treated carbon felt at 400$^{\circ}C$ and the acid-treated carbon felt in the cyclicvoltammetry and polarization experiments. The thermally treated carbon felts at 400$^{\circ}C$ and 500$^{\circ}C$ and the acid-treated carbon felt was applied for the electrode to prepare vanadium redox flow battery. Voltage efficiencies of charge/discharge were 86.6%, 89.6%, and 96.9% for the thermally treated carbon felts at 400$^{\circ}C$ and 500$^{\circ}C$ and the acid-treated carbon felt, respectively.

Sorption of ο-Cresol by Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and Abiotic Transformation on GAC Surface (입상활성탄에 의한 오르토크레졸(ο-cresol)의 흡착과 비생물학적 변형)

  • The effects of pretreatment of GAC and dissolved oxygen (DO) on the sorption capacity for ο-cresol were investigated using pretreated GAC under oxic and anoxic conditions. Virgin GAC was used with pretreated GACs by $O_2$, acid and base as sorbents. Sorption capacity of GAC was dependent on the oxygen conditions according to the pretreatment methods. Virgin GAC showed increased sorption capacity when DO was present in the solution, while $O_2$-pretreated GAC did not show any considerable capacity change. Acid- and base-pretreated GACs were relatively more influenced by presence of DO as compared with virgin GAC. Both acid and base-pretreated GACs showed a rapid sorption rate at the initial stage, but as contact time became longer the sorption was slower. Sorbed ο-cresol was extracted with micro-Soxhlet extraction apparatus using the GAC separated from the rate experiments. Within 1 hour both acid and base-pretreated GACs showed the decrease in extraction efficiencies under both oxic and anoxic conditions. After 1 hour such a trend (the increase as contact time was longer) was not observed and showed relatively constant efficiencies of 35∼50%. According to the results of this study $O_2$contacted with GAC before sorption as well as DO present in the solution during sorption could influence the GAC sorption capacity.

Effects of Two Amino Acid Fertilizers on Growth of Creeping Bentgrass and Nitrogen Uptake (아미노산 비료가 크리핑 벤트그래스의 생육과 질소 흡수에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of two amino acid fertilizers on the growth of creeping bentgrass and N uptake. Fertilizer treatments were designed as follows; non-fertilizer (NF), control (CF), recommended amount (ALF), double amount (2ALF) of amino acid liquid fertilizer (AaLF), recommended amount (ASLF) and double amount (2ASLF) of amino acid liquid fertilizer contained with saponin (AaSLF). Turf quality of treatments of AaLF and AaSLF such as turf color index, chlorophyll index and root length was similar to the treatment of CF. Dry weight and content, uptake and availability of N were investigated highest in the 2ALF and 2ASLF. These results suggested that foliar application of AaLF and AaSLF was enhanced turf quality and growth of creeping bentgrass by stimulating uptake and availability of N.

Effect of Saliva Contamination Stage and Different Decontamination Procedures on Bonding Strength of Resin-Modified Glass Ionomer (레진강화형 글라스아이오노머의 초기 결합력과 타액오염 제거의 상관관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the bond strength of resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) to dentin with saliva contamination at different stages and using different decontamination procedures. Extracted human permanent molars were embedded onto acrylic resin with the dentin surface exposed. Group I was a control group that was conditioned with polyacrylic acid (PAA). Groups II and III were contaminated with saliva before PAA conditioning and Groups IV, V, and VI were contaminated with saliva after PAA conditioning. After saliva contamination, Groups II and IV were dried, Groups III and V were rinsed and dried, and Group VI was additionally conditioned with PAA. After surface treatment, the dentin specimens were filled with RMGI. Group I showed significantly higher bond strength than the other groups. Group VI showed a significantly higher bond strength than the other saliva contaminated groups. However, there were no significant differences in the failure mode between the different groups. Saliva contamination impaired the bond strength of RMGI to dentin, regardless of when the saliva contamination occurred. Decontamination with washing and drying could not improve the shear bond strength of RMGIC. When saliva contamination occurred after PAA conditioning, additional PAA conditioning improved the shear bond strength.

The Cracking Reaction of Vacuum Gas Oil on Mordenite Modified by HF and Steaming (불화수소산과 스팀처리한 모더나이트상에서 진공가스유의 분해반응)

  • Three types of mordenites treated by steaming($SM_{6.5}$), HF solution for $SM_{6.5}(FM_a)$ and HF solutlon+steaming for $SM_{6.5}(FM_b)$ were prepared and used as cracking catalysts of vacuum gas oil. These samples were analysed by XRF and XPS for average and surface Si/Al atomic ratio, XRD for unit cell constants, nitrogen adsorption/desorption for porosity, pyridine-IR for acidic properties. In comparison with three type samples, $SM_{6.5}$ had a lot of acid amount and showed micropore volume mostly(>85% to total volume). Dealuminated $FM_a$, compared with $SM_{6.5}$, was decreased a little in acid amount and improved for porosity. Also, $FM_b$ was decreased further in acid amount and developed in mesopore dramatically. The catalytic activity and the yield of gasoline, kerosine+diesel and branched aromatic over the modified mordenites which have developed mesopore were improved. This is due to limited access of diffusion of large molecules within pore of the modified mordenites.

Effects of sulfiting on the indigenous yeast flora and physicochemical properties during the fermentation of Campbell Early wine (아황산의 처리가 캠벨얼리 와인의 자연발효 시 야생효모의 변화 및 발효 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Campbell Early grapes were spontaneously fermented with and without sulfiting to investigate the effect of sulfiting on the fermentation characteristics and physicochemical properties of Campbell Early wine. During the fermentation, the increase in the alcohol and the decrease in the soluble solid contents were faster without sulfiting, as was the increase in the yeast viable counts compared to those with sulfiting. However, the final alcohol and soluble solid contents reached similar levels with and without sulfiting. The PCR-RFLP analysis of the yeast in the ITS I-5.8S-ITS II region revealed that the increase in the S. cerevisiae was faster in the initial fermentation stage and reached a slightly higher level in the late stage with sulfiting than without sulfiting. The wine prepared after the fermentation with sulfiting showed higher malic and tartaric acid contents, as well as methanol, acetaldehyde, and n-propanol contents, than the wine prepared without sulfiting. The ethyl acetate content of the wine without sulfiting was 375.5 mg/L, which was 5.3 times higher than that (70.5 mg/L) with sulfiting. In the sensory evaluation, the wine without sulfiting obtained higher scores in flavor and overall preference than that with sulfiting.

Analysis of the Change of Amino Acids by Abscisic acid and Polyamine Treatment in Radish Young Cotyledons (무우 유식물의 자엽에서 Abscisic acid와 Polyamine 처리에 의한 아미노산 변화의 분석)

  • The changes of amino acids in the cotyledons of spring - and winter radishes were analysed during the abscisic acid (ABA). ABA plus cycloheximide (CH) and ABA plus polyamine (PA) treatment. The total contents of amino acids were increased in spring radishes, and decreased in winter radishes by ABA. The contents of hydrophilic amino acids, proline, glycine, serine and cysteine in spring radishes (expecially proline), and of cysteine, leucine and phenylalanine in winter radishes (expecially cysteine and leucine)were increased, CH treatment resulted in the accumulation of amino acids by the inhibition of new synthesized protein, which synthesized against ABA induced dehydration both of radishes. On the contrary, the contents of amino acids were decreased in spring radishes, and increased in winter radishes during PA treatment. These results indicated that the accumulated hydrophilic amino acids and new synthesized proteins induced the adaptation of dehydration against stress and the role of ABA in accelerating of stress adaptation was mediated by polyamines.

Effect of Organic Acids and Packaging on the Quality of Aster scaber during Storage (천연 유기산처리 및 포장방법에 의한 참취의 저장효과)

  • The research was investigated to determine the effect of organic acids or packaging methods (PA) either alone or in combination on the quality of Aster scaber during storages. The Aster scaber was treated with organic acids and PA, and stored at different temperature $(1\;and\;5^{\circ}C)$. Total plate counts, weight loss, color change, and sensory evaluation were evaluated. Both organic acid treatments, PA, and combined treatment had little effect on the inhibition of total plate counts compared to the control (non-treatment). Organic acid treatments showed less weight reduction compared to the control and nitrogen treated package had the least weight reduction, but the combined treatments showed less weight reduction than organic acid treatments or packaging method alone. Organic acid treatments were little different from the control on color change, but nitrogen packages had the least color change, whereas combined treatments were a little reduced, but little different compared to the control or nitrogen packages. The nitrogen packages showed better effects on the sensory evaluation compared to other treatments and the results of sensory evaluation were consistent with that of weight reduction and color change, but not in total counts. All these results showed better effects in $5^{\circ}C$ rather than $1^{\circ}C$.

Shading Effect on the Content of Free Amino Acids, Minerals, and Fatty Acids in Tea Leaves(Camellia sinensis O. Kuntze) (차광정도(遮光程度)가 차엽(茶葉)의 아미노산(酸), 무기성분(無機成分), 지방산(脂肪酸) 함량(含量)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • The effect of shading on the mineral components, free amino acid, and fatty acid content of tea shoot was examined under different shading conditions. The results are summarized as follows. The content of Total-Nitrogen and theanine in the tea leaves was the highest in the 95% shading as 5.49% and 15580 mg/kg, respectively, while they were the lowest in the unshading. The contents of total free acid were ranged from 24670 to 30210 mg/kg, showing higher content in the 95% shading than that in the unshading. The contents of ammonium nitrogen, potassium, and magnesium were higher in the all treatments of shading than that of unshading but vise versa in calcium content. The content of total fatty acid was the highest in the 55% + 95% shading as 27990 mg/kg, while that of unshading was the lowest as 24356 mg/kg showing the increasing order of $C_{18:3}$, $C_{18:2}$, $C_{18:0}$, $C_{18:1}$, $C_{18:0}$. The quality of tea leaves was improved with the treatment of shading compared to that of unshading showing the best in the 95% shading.
