  • To investigate the effects of forest fire on the change of vegetation and soil conditions by the lapse of time, the 5th soil survey and vegetation analysis were carried out in July of 1988 at the rocky areas of Mt. Kwanak, where ground fire broke out 5 years ago. Three-year increasing trends of organic matter content, the value of pH, and total nitrogen content stabilized after the restoration of the vegetation. By the comparison of the occurrences of the species for 5 years after the forest fire, woody and herbaceous plants were categorized into 4 groups, i,e., invasive, sensitive, tolerant, and neutral species to the forest fire. Although such diversity indices as the species diversity and similarity index indicate that the restoration of damaged vegetation to the original species composition was proceeded for the period, the restoration of vegetation to the original crown closure and tree growth was not proceeded yet.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the type and characteristics of the domestic natural streams in order to establish a basis for stream restoration and evaluation. To this end, 95 domestic natural stream areas, which have various natural environments, were selected except for the province of island and then the characteristics of natural environment, hydromorpholoy, plant and vegetation were investigated and analyzed in each stream area. As a result, 95 stream areas were classified into total 24 types according to 3 criteria such as stream size (4 types), altitude (3 types), bed material (5 types). Depending on altitude class that is the environmental factor showing the highest correlation with each stream types, the emergence of vegetation and plant, 24 stream types were reclassified into 3 types such as lowland (altitude less than 200m), mountain (altitude from 200m to 500m), highland (altitude more than 500m), and hydromorpholoy, plant and vegetation characteristics of each stream type were compared. First, when compared to the mountain and highland streams, the typical features of lowland streams were as follows: Stream size was large but bed material size was small and there were many valley forms where flood plane were developed well. In addition, the more large stream size was, the more cross-section width variability, bars and sinuosity were in good conditions. In lowland stream, representative vegetation community was Salix koreensis community. On the other hand, when compared to the lowland streams, the typical features of mountain and highland streams were as follows: Stream size was small but bed material was coarse-grained and its size was large. Mountain and highland streams valley form where flood plane was not developed well was narrow, and sinuosity and bars development were weak. Representative vegetation communities of mountain streams were Quercus serrata -, Quercus variabilis -, Styrax japonica community and representative vegetation communities of highland streams were Pinus densiflora -, Quercus mongolica -, Fraxinus rhynchophylla community.

  • CN procedure has been proven to be useful method for evaluating the effects of changes in land-use and treatment on hydrology. In this study, the use of Landsat multi-spectral image was investigated for analyzing the land-use distribution. From the Landsat data, forest areas were classified according to the density of trees. Watershed CN's were calculated to analyze the effects of the density of trees and soil cover types on direct runoff. According to the results, the density of trees had a little effect while soil cover types had a large effect on CN, From the comparison of estimated runoffs from CN method with observed runoffs, detailed soil cover map provides improved results.

  • The aim of this study was to collect the basic data for effective creation and management of hilly pasture. The investigation of flora and vegetation was conducted at 59 $relev\acute{e}s$ in hilly pasture of Daegwallyeong from 2014 to 2016. The vascular plants of the hilly pasture were 121 listed taxa which contain 38 families, 90 genera, 104 species, 13 varieties, and 12 subspecies. The biological type of the hilly pasture was determined as the $Th-D_4-R_5-e$ type. Twelve taxa were of naturalized plants composed of 5 families, 9 genera, 12 species. The urbanization index and the naturalized index were 3.7% and 9.9%, respectively. The vegetation types in the hilly pasture were classified into the following 3 communities: the Spiraea miyabei-Spiraea salicifolia community, the Persicaria thunbergii community, and the Agrostis alba-Phleum pratense community. The Agrostis alba-Phleum pratense community was classified into the following 5 subcommunities: the Poa pratensis subcommunity, the Artemisia princeps subcommunity, the Festuca ovina subcommunity, the Rumex acetosella subcommunity, and the typical subcommunity. Two factors (slope and EC) had the strongest impact on plant community distribution. Especially, the steep sloping sites (over $40^{\circ}$) did not play a crucial role in maintaining adequate pasture because of the invasion and establishment of shrubs.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of existing vegetation on seedling establishment and herbage production of oversown grasses in the Pinus rigida forest. The dominant existing vegetations were Miscanthus sinensis, Festuca ovina, and Lycopodium serratum. In establishment year, seedling stands and herbage production were not affected in Miscanthus sinensis and Festuca ovina, while in Lycopodium serratum it was affected relatively seriously. The pattern of sown species response to the existing vegetations was trend to toward simplified two or three species as Dactylis glomerata, Lolium perenne, and Trifolium repens to advancing the time. Among sown species, Dactylis glomerata was a major dominant species in all existing vegetation area. The content of sown pasture grasses in the sward increased markedly, while the existing vegetations before seeding seriously decreased to advancing the cutting time. The above results shown that the improvement of forest pasture with a surface seeding was better in Miscanthus sinensis and Festuca ovina, but in Lycopodium serratum was found very difficult to improvement of pasture without surface treatment, also establishment method must favor the low herbage production potential.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate vegetation structure and to present management plan of mountain type green space in Kangwhado, Inchon. The actual vegetation in survey sites(11,331ha) was divided into 19 community types. It was consisted of secondary forest(92.32%) which was Quercus acutissima, Pinus densiflora-Q. acutissima, and Q. mongolica community so on. Artificial planting forest area, such as Robinia pseudoacacia and Pinus rigida forest and others, was 5.40%(612ha) and it was less than cases in other cities in the Metropolitan area. According to the classification by TWINSPAN, 57 survey plots were divided into seven community types; P rigida(community A), Q. acutissima(community B) P. densiflora-Q. acutissima(community C), Q. acutissima-P. densiflora (community D), P. densiflora-Carpinus laxiflora-Q. serrata-Q. acutissima(community E), Q. serrata-Q. mongolica(community F), and Zelkova serrata-Acer mono(community G). From this result, ecological succession trend of vegetation in this area seems to be change from P. densiflora forest through Q. acutissima forest to Q. mongolica, Q. serrata, and C. laxiflora forest. It was similar to the ordinary successional trend of temperate deciduous forest in middle area, Korea. In addition, this study area was showed acid soil(pH 4.17). Therefore, there is a need for managing the soil environment for effective vegetation management.

  • Considering the hydrological los components such as evapotranspiration, interception, surface storage and infiltration, a rainfall excess model for forest watersheds is derived. The Morton model is adopted to estimate the evapotranspration under the wetted environmental conditions. Canopy effects and ground cover interception storage rates are used to determine the net rainfall rates arrived on the surface soil. The infiltration capacity on the permeable surface is estimated from the revised Green-Ampt model derived for the natural unsteady rainfall events. The rainfall excess model derived is applied with the data from Jangpyung watershed, one of the representative watersheds of IHP. Parameters which are calibrated with the data from ten storms, the hydrometeorological, land use and soil informations, and other researchers' papers are presented.
