Evaluation of Butyltin Compounds and its Distribution Among Seawater, Sediment and Biota from the Kwangyang Bay (광양만내 유기주석화합물의 해수, 퇴적물, 생물중 농도 및 분포 상관관계)

  • Seawater, sediment and biota in the Kwangyang Bay were analyzed by gas chromatography/quartz furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy (GC-QFAAS) to investigate concentrations and distribution pattern of butyltin compounds (TBT, DBT, MBT) during February, April and July, 1996, Marine biota analyzed were Tapes japcnicus and Crassostrea gigas. The concentrations of tributyltin (TBT) in seawater were in the range of ND-15.7 ng/L for the surface and ND-68.5 ng/L for the bottom. The highest concentration of TBT in seawater was detected in April for the both, surface and bottom water. The maximum value of $TBT_{(bottom)}/TBT_{(surface)}$, 3.6 in April showed the increased input of TBT from the surface water in April compared to February (2.1) and July (0.9). The concentrations of TBT in the sediment were in the range of ND-8.5 ng/g dry wt. The highest concentration of TBT in the sediment was measured in July, This result seems to attributed to the removal of TBT from water column via sorption onto particulate matters to the relatively undisturbed underlying sediment and increased input of TBT by increased fluxes of detritus of marine plankton after spring bloom, in July. The mean values of partitioning coefficient ($K_d$) of TBT between seawater and sediment were $3.0\times10^3$(February), $7.4\times10^3$(April) and $9.4\times10^3$(July). The concentrations of TBT in biosamples were in the range of ND-93.30 ng/g dru wt. (T. japonicus) and ND-138.53 ng/g dry wt. (C. gigas). The seasonal variation of TBT contents in biota was remarkable. The $K_d$ (biological concentration factor) was $7-41\times10^3$ for T. japonicus. and $5-34\times10^3$ for C. gigas. The measured TBT concentrations in seawater in the study area was sufficient to cause the imposex of shellfish and to retard the growth of aquatic organisms including oyster upon chronic exposure.

Bionomics and a Lana Sampling Method of Coppery Wireworm, Selatosomus puncticollis (Motschulsky), (Coleoptera: Elateridae) in Potato Field (청동방아벌레(Selatosomus puncticollis Motschulsky)의 생태적 특성 및 감자포장내 유충밀도 조사법)

  • The occurrence pattern and bionomics of Selatosomus puncticollis (Motschulsky) were surveyed in three net house (6$\times$70m) in the field and in a laboratory ($20^{\circ}C$, RH$75\%$, L16/DB). Emergence of hibernated adults of S. puncricollis started from early May, reached peak at early June and diminished in late June. Occurrence rate to total number was $42.1\%$ in early June and $31.7\%$ in late May, when most of hibernated adults emerged at these periods. Adults started to oviposit from mid June, and eggs hatched from early July Larvae turned into pupae from mid July and emerged to adults from mid August. Egg-period was 23 days and pupal period was 21 days. It is estimated that preovipositional period and larval period were approximately 10 months and 30 months, respectively. Wireworms were distributed at the soil depth of 10-5 cm, $56.8\%$ in 1997 and $45.8\%$ in 1998. To establish bait techniques to attract wireworms in the soil, six baits: pieces of potato, carrot, and sweet potato, wheat grains, corns, and flour dough wrapped with gauze, were buried at 15 cm of soil depth, and collected after 5 and 10 days. The numbers of wireworms attracted by potato pieces, wheat grains and sweet potato pieces after 10 days were 1.8, 1.6, and 1.4/bait, respectively. Therefore, burying potato pieces at 15 cm of soil depth and collected after 10 days could be recommended as a wireworm baiting technique.

해마 서식지의 혼재어류상

  • 우리나라 전남 동부 연안에서 확인된 해마 서식지를 대상으로 해마 이외의 혼재 유영 어류에 대한 생태 조사를 실시하였다. 조사는 전남 동부 연안의 해마의 서식이 확인된 수역에서 임의의 3 정점 (A, B, C)을 지정하여 채집하였다. 해마 채집 및 혼재 어류상 조사에는 소형 선박을 이용하였으며, 길이 45m, 폭 5m, 망목 크기 6~8mm의 어구를 사용하여 서식 생물을 채포하였다. 그리고 1회에 어획된 전 어종을 한 조사군으로 설정하였고 채집된 해마와 혼재 어종에 대해서는 각 어종별 분류키를 이용하여 분류하였다. 그리고 해마와 혼재 어류에 대해서는 0.1mm 범위에서 전장과 체장을 측정하였으며, 1mg 범위에서 체중을 측정하였다. 임의로 선정한 각 조사 정점별 채집된 해마와 혼재 어류상은 다음과 같다. 확인된 서식지는 전남 동부의 여수와 고흥 연안으로 각 지역별로 서식하고 있는 해마의 종류는 다소 차이가 있었는데 조사 정점 A와 B에서는 산호 해마 hippocampus sp. of. japonicus만이 관찰된 반면, 정점 c에서는 산호해마, 가시해마 Hippocampus sp. of. histrix, (참)해마 Hippocampus sp. cf. coronatus의 3종이 모두 관찰되었고 채집된 개체수도 정점 A와 B에서 1개체씩만이 관찰된 반면 정점 C에서는 5개체가 채집되어 다른 조사 정점에 비교하여 종의 수 및 개체수에서 매우 높은 결과를 나타내었다. 각 조사 정점별 관찰된 유영 어류상은 정점 A에서는 7종, 정점 B에서는 6종 그리고 정점 C에서는 12종의 어류가 관찰되었고, 이들 중 해마를 제외한 혼재 어종 수는 정점 A, B 및 C에서 각각 6종, 5종, 9종이 관찰되었다. 혼재 어종 중 감성돔, 복섬, 두줄 망둑, 실비늘치, 주둥치는 조사정점 A, B, C 모두에서 관찰되었다. 이 결과는 해마의 서식장 또는 산란장이 되는 조사 정점 C (36개체)가 다른 조사 정점 A (53개체)와 B (67개체)에 비교하여 해마의 어린 치어 또는 해마 성체를 포식할 수 있는 포식자의 개체수가 현격하게 낮기 때문인 것으로 판단된다. 그러나, 임의의 3 조사 정점에서 혼재 어종의 출현 종 수를 비교한 결과에서는 오히려 정점 A에서 6종, 정점 5에서 5종 그리고 정점 C에서 8종으로 나타나 정점 C에서 다소 높은 혼재 어종 수가 관찰되었다. 결국 해마의 서식지 주변 혼재 어종 특히, 혼재 어종의 개체수가 많을수록 해마의 서식 밀도를 감소시킬 가능성이 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 한편, 다른 조사 정점에 비교하여 정점 C에서 출현 종 수가 높음에도 불구하고 출현 개체수가 매우 낮은 이유로 혼재 어종도 자어 또는 치어 시기에 해마 성체의 먹이로서 이용되었을 가능성도 배제할 수 없을 것으로 판단된다. 2003년 9월 (2일간)에 우리나라 전라남도 동부 연안에서 채집된 해마는 하루 오전과 오후 조석에 맞추어 4회에 걸쳐서 총 30여회 투망 작업한 결과 3종 62개체가 채집되었다.

Insecticidal Activity of 26 Insectcides against Eggs and Nymphs of Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae) (꽃매미의 알과 약충에 대한 26 약제의 살충활성)

  • This study was performed to investigate the hatching rate and eggs period until hatching in the laboratory against lantern fly, Lycorma delicatula eggs with different collecting date of eggs, and the susceptibility of 26 insecticides to the eggs, 1st and 2nd nymphs of Lycorma delicatula. The eggs of L. delicatula were increased the hatching rates as passed collecting date of eggs, and shorten in eggs period until hatching. By screening the susceptibility of 26 insecticides to the eggs, 1st, and 2nd nymphs, chlorpyrifos (312.5 ppm) showed the perfect inhibition effect of hatching against the eggs, however, the other insecticides did not show that effect. According to the collecting date of eggs, chlorpyrifos bioassayed the inecticidal effect with different concentration (625 ppm at double conc., 312.5 ppm at recommended conc., and 156.3 ppm at half conc.). The eggs collected from Apr. 20th 2010, were showed the inhibition effect of hatching over 94.5%, but the eggs collected from May 10th, 2010 were showed the inhibition effect of hatching as 86.7, 71.1, and 47.1%, respectively. However, hatched eggs were all killed perfectly within 24 hours. At recommended and half concentrations, the eggs collected from 15, May, are decreased the effect as 48.6%, 53.7%, respectively, and the mortality of eggs hatched also decreased as 61.0 and 22.0%, respectively, however, double concentrations did not show the changes. From the above results, it will be anticipate to show the higher mortality against the eggs of L. delicatula when treated chlorpyrifos until late-April.

Biological Characteristic of Obolodiplosis robiniae and Control Effects of Some Insecticides (아까시잎혹파리(Obolodiplosis robiniae)의 생물학적 특성 및 약제 살충 효과)

  • Biological Characteristic of Obolodiplosis robiniae and insecticidal activity of some insecticides against larvae of O. robiniae were investigated. Egg was in oval shape, and its color was light orange and became red when close to hatch. Length of the major axis and the minor axis of egg was 0.4 mm and 0.1 mm, respectively. Larval color was milky and size was 2.6 mm. Pupa was deep brown and its size was about 3.2 mm. Wing and abdomen of adult was black and reddish, respectively. Size of female adult was about 3.3 mm, and larger than male adult. Number of eggs in the ovary was $192.3{\pm}50.7$. First emergence was from late April to late May, and second from late May to late June. Third emergence was from late June to late July. Newly emerged adult escaped from soil, and second and third emerged adult escaped directly from gall of Robinia pseudoacacia leaf. Egg parasitoid was identified as Platygaster robiniae and parasite rate was 51.6%. Among test insecticides, imidacloprid 10% WP and thiacoprid 10% FL showed very strong insecticidal activity against larvae of O. robiniae at 48h later after treatment.

The Ecology Tetranychus viennensis Zacher and its Chemical Control Effects (벚나무응애의 생태적 특성 및 약제방제효과)

  • Occurrence status of Tetranychus viennensis Zacher was investigated in Kyonghuk province. Its ecological studies were carried out and chemical control efficacy against females and eggs was examined. And the results ohtained are as follows. T. viennensis occurred from mid April through mid November with the peak time in June on cherry tree. Population level of T. viennensis was varied from 0 to 160 individuals per 100 peach leaves in different peach orchards, and its occurrence rate was 35% out of 20 ochards. However no T. viennensis was observed from 25 apple orchards in 5 districts of Kyongbuk province. Overwintering stage of T. viennensis females appeared in mid October, and most of them moved into under the rough hark in early November. The overwintered adult females moved out from the rough bark to leaves in early April. Mortality during overwintering was about 55%. Under four constant temperatures of 16, 19, 22, 25$^{\circ}$C. egg periods were 14. 3, 9.2, 6.8, and 4.0 days ; larva -nymph periods were 20.2, 13.9, 8.7, and 6.6 days. Female longevity was 67. 7, 60.7, 46.4, and 34.0 days : mean tota: fecundities per female were 21.2, 44.3, 54.4, and 64.7 eggs. Some acaricides, azocyclotin, pyridaben, propargite, tehufenpyrad and fenpyroximate were highly effective against females, while hexythiazox and clofentezine showed very low control effect from 3.6 to 14.4%. Whereas, all of 7 acaricides tested highly effective against the eggs.

Feeding Habits of Pacific Cod (Gadus macrocephalus) in the Coastal Waters off Gadeok-do, Korea (가덕도 주변해역에 출현하는 대구(Gadus macrocephalus)의 식성)

  • The feeding habits of Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) were studied based on the examination of stomach contents of 192 specimens collected from November, 2005 to January, 2006 in the coastal waters off Gadeok-do, Korea. The size of Pacific cod ranged from 35 to 82 cm in standard length (SL). Pacific cod mainly consumed shrimps such as Eualus spathulirostris, Crogon hakodatei and C. affinis and fishes. Its diet also included small quantities of cephalopods, amphipods, hermit crabs and crabs. Individuals between 35 cm and 45 cm SL mainly consumed shrimps. The portion of shrimps decreased with increasing fish size, and this decrease was paralleled with increased consumption of fishes and cephalopods. In this study we found Syngnathus schlegeli in the stomach contents of many Pacific cod specimens. S. schlegeli is a typical seagrass fish species which inhabits in seagrass beds, This fact means that Pacific cods stay in the seagrass beds during spawning period. Therefore migration of Pacific cod to coastal waters off Gadeok-do during spawning period seems to be a survival strategy for its larvae and small juveniles to stay in seagrass beds which provide with abundant foods and shelters to many commercial fish species.

Effects of Reflecting Film Mulching on the Fruit Quality of Satsuma Mandarin(Citrus Unshiu Marc.) in the Plastic House. (하우스 밀감의 품질에 미치는 반사필름 멀칭 효과)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of mulching materials on the fruit quality of Miyagawa Early Satsuma Mandarin in the plastic house. The mulching time was 10 days after water irrigation breakage. The mulching materials used, in order of decreasing light reflectivity, were; micro-perforated vinyl sheets, non-woven fabric film, porous black P.E. film and non-mulching(control). Peel coloration by a values in the treatment of the micro-perforated vinyl sheets showed a 6.93 increase over the control group. The a/b values were similar to this trend, but there were no significant difference among the mulching treatment groups. The glucose level of fruit juice was much higher in the mulching treatment groups as compared with that of the control group, but there was no significant difference among the mulching treatments. Fructose content in the treatment of the micro-perforated vinyl sheets a 0.31mg%.m $L^{-1}$ increase over the control group. This group also showed a 1.36%.m $L^{-1}$ increase in sucrose and a similar increase trend in total sugar. The Brix value was 0.9 $^{\circ}$Brix higher in the micro-perforated vinyl sheet group(12.4 $^{\circ}$Brix) than in the control group(11.5 $^{\circ}$Brix) which result in a significant increase with micro-perforated vinyl sheet usage. However, the acidity level did not differ significantly among mulching treatments.

Long-term Preservation of Bombyx mori Stocks by Frozen Gonad Storage (생식소 동결에 의한 누에 유전자원의 장기보존)

  • For a long-term preservation of silkworm stocks by frozen gonad storage, fundamental topics such as freezing rate and transplanting stage of the gonad, proper cryoprotectant, and super-cooling temperature and freezing point of the freezing medium were examined and following results were obtained. Proper method to anesthetize the ovary-recipient silkworm was to dip the animal to cold water for 10 minutes, and the ovary taken from the 4th instar larvae was more suitable for freezing-preservation than that from the 5th. Concerning the cryoprotectant, glycerol and DMSO were effective to prevent cryoinjury of the ovary, but sorbitol was not. The supercooling temperature and freezing point of the medium to freeze the ovary and testes were checked, and consulting with the results desirable cooling rate was confirmed. On the desirable conditions of transplanting methods, freezing rate and cryoprotectant concentration ect., the next generation was obtained when the females implanted frozen-thawed ovaries mated with normal males, but none of the normal females mated with the males implanted frozen-thawed testes laid fertilized eggs. Now it is needed to improve the connecting ration of the ducts associated with the transplanted testis to those of the hosts.

The Effect of Organic solvents on Interrupting Diapause Initiation in Prospective Diapause Eggs of Bombyx mori. (가잠란의 휴면개시조지에 관한 유기용매의 효과)

  • The effect of some organic solvents on interrupting diapause of Bombyx mori eggs was examined to provide a clue to the mechanism of diapause initiation. Methyl alcohol and benzene proved to be efficient in developing the prospective diapause eggs upto the stage of hatching or body pigmentation of the embryos. On the other hand, most of the eggs soaked in chloroform and mixture solution of chloroform-methyl alcohol (2:1) died in the early embryonic developmental stage with yellow or red brown colours, and the egg weights decreased upto ca. 40% of the original weight 8 days after the treatments. Methyl alcohol treatment for 2, 5 and 10 min to the 5hr-old-eggs led to empergence of the larvae, with high incidence (70∼80%) in the race of Kumchu X Chonghwa and with low indidence (1∼4%) in Daezo. The effect of same treatment to 20hr old eggs decreased to ca. 10% in the emergence of larvae in Kumchn X Chonghwa and increased to 20∼30% in Daezo, while the effect disappeared shortly after the diapause initiation (48hr-old-eggs). Considering the high dependency upon the egg age of the sensitivity to solvents, it was supposed that initiation and termination of diapause may be controlled by different mechanism. It was also suspected that the solvents exert their effect on the permeability of the eggshell.
