The adult of the aphidophagous ladybeetle, Harmonia axyridis, was reared by feeding an artificial diet (chicken's 1iver:sugar = 5:2, v/w). The adult ladybeetle used was from pupae collected in the field in midJuly. Yolk protein production, fecundity and longevity of the adult female were checked under 3OoC, 16L:8D. Yolk proteins (Vg3 and Vg4) were detected from the hemolymph of the female 5 days after the emergence. One hundred pairs of female and male were reared separately. First oviposition started from 7 days afier the emergence and laid an average of 163.9k144.0 eggs during lifetime. Seventeen females did not lay eggs at all. Longevity of the female was 60.6k16.9 days. The application of a JH analog, methoprene (2.5 pg), caused the occurrence of yolk proteins in the hemolymph 1 day earlier than that of the control. Weekly application of 2.5 pg of methoprene induced 83.3% from the 30 females to lay eggs within 15 days after the emergence, while the control had 51% only. Methoprene made all females lay eggs, causing the increase in the fecundity. Though the longevity of the female was not effected by the weekly application of methoprene, one time excess dose (12.5 pg) caused high in mortality and low in fecundity.

Flat-panel detector (FPD) used in digital radiographic imaging systems was used to perform a quantitative power spectrum evaluation as a result of the thickness change of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a tissue equivalent. As the PMMA thickness increases with the resolution-chart phantom image, the effect of the scattering line increases, indicating that the modulation characteristics decrease, and the image is bright. The results show that the noise of the image increases, and noise-power spectral images are obtained by Fourier transform to confirm by spatial frequency. Thus, it can be verified that the PMMA thickness and noise are proportional through the result of evaluating the change of resolution characteristics and representing the 2D noise-power spectrum as one-dimensional values by evaluating the change of scattering line with MTF as the PMMA thickness increases in the image.

Molecular beam epitaxy 방법으로 성장시킨 AlGaAs/GaAs 다중 양자 우물 구조에 대한 라만 산란 연구를 보고한다. InAs 양자점이 성장된 Si 기판 위에 각기 다른 온도에서 두께 약 1 ${\mu}m$의 GaAs 층을 두 단계로 성장시킨 후 그 위에 AlGaAs/GaAs 다중 양자 우물 구조를 성장시켰다. AlGaAs/GaAs 다중 양자 우물 구조의 광학적 특성에 영향을 주는 GaAs 층의 변형력(stress)의 변화를 알기 위해서 시료의 측면으로부터 공간 분해된 라만 산란 실험을 수행하였다. 라만 산란 실험으로부터 AlGaAs/GaAs 다중 양자 우물 구조가 지니는 모든 종류의 광학 포논을 관측하였으며, 두 단계로 성장시킨 GaAs 층에서의 변형력이 Si 기판으로부터 멀어질수록 성장조건의 변화에 따라서 다르게 전개된다는 것을 파악하였다.

This study was conducted to obtain for genetic information with 11, 538 progenies of 5 strains in Korean native chicken. The heritability estimates of the body weights at 150 and 270days of age were 0.25~0.61 and 0.32~0.59 in 5 strains, the heritabilities of the body weight at 270 days were relatively higher than that of the body weight at 150 days. The medium or low heritability estimates were observed in the ages at first egg as 0.15 ~0.31, and heritability estimates of the egg weights at the first egg and 270 days of age were 0.06~0.09 and 0.24~0.41. Medium or low heritability estimates were observed for the number of egg production as 0.09 ~0.26, respectively.

This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of sublethal doses of BPMC, etofenprox,and buprofezin on N. lugens. and its predator C. lividipennis. Buprofezin was found to be the most toxic to N. lugens and the most safe to C. lividipennis among the three insecticides, based on LD50 values. Selective toxicity index calculated by dividing LDSo value of C. lividipennis by that of N. lugens indicated that buprofezin was very safe to C. lividipennis, showing selective toxicity of 2703.3. Longevity and fecundity of N. lugens treated with LDIU and LDm of buprofezin and BPMC were not significantly different with those of untreated brown planthoppers. However, egg hatchability' of N. lugens was greatly reduced when treated with LDm of buprofezin, having the highest inhibition rate of 17.7%. Hatchability of eggs from insects treated with BPMC was similar to that of control. The oviposited peak of treated hoppers appeared late as compared to the untreated which showed the peak at early part of the ovipositional period. The longevity and fecundity of C. lividipennis treated with BPMC were significantly reduced as compared with the untreated. Etofenprox also induced fecundity reduction when treated with LDlo, and LDm. However, C. lividipennis treated with sublethal doses of buprofezin showed no redution in logevity and fecundity. From these results, it may be said that buprofezin can be used to control brown planthopper without disrupting of C. lividipennis population in the rice field.

Data on egg production, egg weight and egg mass were obtained from a sample of the Synthetic White Leghorn population which was raised at Poultry Breeding Farm, Seoul National University. Egg mass was not measured directly, but was calculated from the egg numbers and the average egg weight for same period. Phenotypic means, components of variance and covariance, heritabilities and genetic correlations were computed. Egg mass was estimated to be a lowly heritable trait (0.204-0.270). High heritability estimates were found for age at sexual maturity and egg weight. Genetic correlation estimates were high and positive between egg mass and egg number(combined estimates 0.711). Egg mass and egg weight were moderately correlated genetically (0.431). Genetic correlation estimates was -0.280 between egg number and age at sexual maturity, but was 0.524 between egg weight and age at sexual maturity. Results show that selection for total egg mass based on record from a single period will not be satisfactory unless the single period chosen is one in the latter part of the laying year.

This study aimed to investigate the physicochemical properties of chicken breast ham manufactured with broiler (BR), spent broiler breeder hen (SBBH), and spent laying hen (SLH). The water holding capacity and final yield of chicken breast ham manufactured with SLH was significantly lower than chicken breast ham manufactured with BR and SBBH (P<0.05). The lightness and redness of chicken breast ham manufactured with SBBH were significantly higher than those of chicken breast ham manufactured with SLH (P<0.05). The yellowness of chicken breast ham manufactured with BR and SLH was significantly higher than that of chicken breast ham manufactured with SBBH (P<0.05). The shear force of chicken breast ham manufactured with SLH was the highest. The tenderness and overall acceptability of chicken breast ham manufactured with BR and SBBH were significantly higher than those of chicken breast ham manufactured with SLH. Therefore, SBBH and SLH can lead to various textures of chicken breast hams.

The aphidophagous lady beetle, Harmonia axyridis, is induced to undergo reproductive diapause by low temperature treatment. The diapause of the adult beetle can be maintained without supplying the diet up to 5 months at $4^{\circ}C$. The diapause can be induced any time including during the summer, allowing the beetle to be supplied to the field for the control of aphids through the year. Fecundity and longevity after the reproductive diapause is though to be satisfactory enough for the control of aphids in the field, Methoprene, an analog of reproductive hormone of JH, increases the early fecundity of the beetle.
