Elderly males in retirement experiencing a change in their social status and role in the family are likely to develop negative perception toward the elderly and the elderly life. The purpose of this study is to examine how the experiences of age discrimination affect elderly male's perception and his attitude towards the elderly life, and to verify the mediation effects of the family and peer relations, which would necessitate the need for social welfare intervention. 215 participants, the elderly men registered at the welfare centers in Seoul Metropolitan area, participated in this research utilizing the structural equation modeling to verify the mediation effect. The findings are as follows. First, the elderly males's experiences of age discrimination is found not to have a significant effect on their perception towards the elderly. Second, the elderly males' discrimination experience has a significant effect on their attitude towards the elderly life. Third, it is found out that family function and peer relationship has complete mediation effect on the perception on the elderly experiencing discrimination in their perception towards the elderly life. Fourth, the family function and peer relationship has partial mediation effect on the elderly male experiencing discrimination in their attitude toward their life after retirement. This shows that more efforts are needed to reduce discrimination towards the elderly, and that strong family function and peer relations help the elderly to develop more positive perception and attitude towards the elderly life. In conclusion, it proposes an institutional approach towards the problem as well as increased support for elderly welfare service including family counseling intended to strengthen family function and alternative family, and more active social activities aimed at strengthening of peer relationship.

The purpose of this study was to identify socio-demographic variables, psychological variables and socio-relational variables influencing on suicide ideation of multicultural families. The participants were 186 multicultural adolescents. Data analysis was used descriptive statistics, correlation and multiple regression with the SPSS 23.0 program. The major findings were as; Self-esteem is highest in 3.40, hopelessness is 3.34, discrimination experience is 3.14, school violence victim is 2.78 and suicide ideation is 1.98. Suicide ideation was positively correlated with stress, hopelessness, depression, school violence victim and discrimination experience except self-esteem. Multicultural adolescents' suicide ideation was positively affected by significant hopelessness, depression, stress, school violence victim and discrimination experience. And the findings was provided basic report for the intervention program on suicide ideation regarding to psychological variables and socio-relational variables of multicultural adolescents.

The objective of this study is to understand the influence of discrimination experience on life satisfaction of the employed hearing-impaired, and also to verify the mediating effects of self-esteem on relations between discrimination experience and life satisfaction. To achieve this objective, the data of the 8th Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled was used, and then the extracted data of 234 employed hearing-impaired persons was used for analysis. The results of this study are like below. First, discrimination experience showed negative(-) relations with self-esteem and life satisfaction while self-esteem showed positive(+) relations with life satisfaction. Second, when the perception of discrimination experience was low, the life satisfaction was high. Third, the mediating effects of self-esteem were verified on relations between discrimination experience and life satisfaction. Marital status, health, social-economical position has effected on life satisfaction. Based on such results of the study, suggestions were made to increase life satisfaction of the hearing-impaired.

In this study, we explore whether and how the experience of discrimination and social support affects physical health and mental health through disability identity among the disabled aged 50 and over. We also examine such relationship differs by the degree of disability. For the empirical test, we utilized the data from the Panel Survey for the Disabled conducted by our research team in 2016. According to structural equation model analysis, social support has a direct effect on disability identity. It also has a direct effect on physical health. As for the mental health, there are found direct effects of discrimination experience, social support, disability identity, and physical health, Furthermore, social support influences the mental health through disability identity. This finding suggests that social support for the disabled in old age increases disability identity and, in turn, it contributes their mental health. In the meanwhile, multiple group comparison analysis reveals the effect of discrimination experience on disability identity is found for those with lower level of disability but not for their counterparts. This seems to result from that the level of common ground which constitutes disability identity is low for the severely disabled. Thus, it requires our efforts to enhance disability identity focusing on common ground for the severe disabled.

Korean unwed mothers and their families often experience discriminatory and unfair treatment in their everyday lives. However, there has been little research examining discrimination against unwed mothers and its effects on these women's lives. Therefore, further studies are needed to identify and assess types and degree of discrimination against unwed mothers. This study aims to investigate and develop a reliable and valid measurement scale of experiences of discrimination for Korean unwed mothers. For developing the scale, the researchers constructed a concept and sub factors, and the pre-scale of 75 items of discrimination experiences of unwed mothers by conducting a literature review and focus groups interviews, Validity and reliability of the scale were tested by carrying out an item quality analysis, a exploratory factor analysis, a correlation analysis, a criterion validity test and a reliability analysis, The scale of 21 items was constructed with three dimensions. This study is significant that it provides the scale of discrimination for Korea unwed mothers with high reliability and validity to identify and verify types and degree of discrimination experiences of unwed mothers.

This study analysed the relationship between the discrimination that international marriage migrant women experience and various self-reported health indicators. The participants included 545 international marriage migrant women who responded to a self-questionnaire that was handed out to them at multicultural family support centers they attended in the C area. We designed this causal model to examine the relationship between the discrimination that international marriage migrant women feel they experience and their mental and physical health. Results of the study are as follows. First, the fit indices were found to be $x^2$(df)=236.403(76), CFI=.945, RMSEA=.077. These were statistically acceptable levels. In addition, perceived discrimination produces significantly heightened stress and negative effects on mental and physical health among immigrant women. Therefore, discrimination may constitute a risk factor for the health of immigrant women and could be the fact that explains health inequalities among immigrant populations in Korean society. These results suggest the need to find ways to reduce discrimination within Korean society as it becomes a multicultural society rapidly.

In this study, we explored the relationship between experienced discrimination and volunteering activities among the $2^{nd}$ baby boom generation. Specifically, applying structural equation modeling, we examined how the effect of experienced discrimination on volunteering among the $2^{nd}$ baby boom generation is mediated by the negative perception of equal opportunity and achievement by personal merit. Data were obtained from the 2016 National Survey on Unequal Opportunity from the Circle Foundation. The research sample was comprised of 474 baby boomers ages 42 to 48 at the time of survey. Results indicated that perceived discrimination affects the level of volunteering among the $2^{nd}$ baby boom generation, through the negative perception of equal opportunity and achievement by personal merit. Based on the findings, we presented policy implications that could promote volunteering activities among the $2^{nd}$ baby boom generation.

In this study, we explored the degree to which foreign workers in Korea are satisfied with their lives. We examined the extent of the respondents'educational mismatch, their experiences of discrimination, and the empowerment influence on their degree of life satisfaction. Based on this, we developed practical implications to improve foreign workers'life satisfaction in the country. The results show that life satisfaction significantly rises as the respondents'educational credentials increasingly match with the criteria for their respective jobs, given that they have not experienced discrimination and their empowerment level is high. Based on these outcomes, we proposed the following important policy measures: mediation and diminishing educational mismatch during job searches, establishing legal and institutional frameworks to prevent discrimination, and placing greater emphasis on efforts to improve foreign workers'empowerment. We expect our findings to provide an important empirical basis for efforts to facilitate foreign workers'integration into Korean society. This study is the first attempt to apply concepts such as foreign workers'empowerment and educational mismatch -as defined by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development's Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (OECD PIAAC) -to foreign workers in Korea.

This study conducted a survey to investigate the effect of the elderly-related experience on ageism in college students in Busan and Ulsan area. The total score of ageism was lower in the students with the experience in living with the elderly (p<.001), taking elderly-related classes (p<.01), and volunteering for the elderly. The effect of the experience in the elderly on the emotional avoidance was significant in the students with the experience in living with the elderly (p<0.001), volunteering for the elderly(p<0.01), and taking elderly-related classes (p<0.05). The effect on ageism was significant in the students with the experience in living with the elderly (p<0.001), volunteering for the elderly (p<0.01), and taking elderly-related classes (p<0.05). Therefore, taking elderly-related classes and volunteering for elderly to build social, physical, and emotional empathy will have a positive effect on the attitudes and the point of view on the elderly.

In this study, we investigated the effects of ageism experience of the elderly on depression, where the loneliness was mediated between ageism experience and depression. To investigate the cause and effect of factors, we purposively collected 309 samples from 16 Gyungrodangs evenly located in Jeonju and 291 samples, survived the data screening such as missing values, outliers, normality and covariance conditions, were analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, reliability, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model analysis. As the results, first, we confirmed ageism experience positively affected depression of the elderly. Second, ageism experience of the elderly also positively affected loneliness. Third, loneliness positively influenced depression. Fourth, ageism experience had effects directly as well as indirectly on depression medicated by loneliness. Based on the results, in the aged society, combating law, policy, and propaganda against ageism would be helpful to the elderly and individually customized program for ageism victim's mental health would be recommended.
