A study on action cam user experience design for leisure activities (레저활동을 위한 액션캠 사용자 경험 디자인 연구)

  • The study is a user experience design study on the function of action cams used for leisure activities that have been on the rise recently. Along with the video platforms that are developing in a user-friendly way, the size of the action cam market is also growing. However, there is a lack of research on the quality of a function that enhances the user experience. Thus, this study classified action cam functions according to user experience elements by using Kano Model's analysis method and in-depth interview, and analyzed how the quality of action cam functions affects the user experience by conducting a satisfaction survey by function. The results of the study have shown which functions should be improved first and which functions should be continuously researched and invested. I hope this study will contribute useful information to developing user-centered action cams.

The Effects of Service Design Quality Factors and Availability on User Satisfaction (서비스디자인 품질요인과 유용성이 사용자만족에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest and prove that service design is not in the dimension of a simply new design methodology, but in the design paradigm change from conventional tangible and visual view of design to the intangible service of design. Based on a variety of literature research, this study defined service design, found its characteristics, and proved its differences from conventional design approaches and thoughts. To do that, this study looked into service design theories, processes, and methodologies, defined quality factor and availability of service design, and user satisfaction, and setup hypotheses to prove them. This study conducted a questionnaire survey with service design firms, service designers, and their customers. The questionnaire data were applied to structural equation to analyze the hypotheses. According to the analysis, reliability, tangibility, assurance, and empathy of the quality factors of service design were accepted, but responsiveness of the factors was rejected. It was found that quality factors positively influenced availability and ended up positively affecting user satisfaction. The quantitative research results will made some suggestions to service design firms and designers in the paradigm change to service-centric design, and will show the importance of understanding the essence of service in terms of design methodology.

  • Recently, the importance of cultural design has been increasing due to the globalization. However the cultural design is mainly focusing on the shape or color stereotype of different cultures, ignoring another important aspects of cultural design: the way of peoples' interacting with product. The study aims to develop usability test program for cultural user-interface design that operates in the world wide web. The study begins with discussing the nature of culture through defining culture and reviewing the depth and variables of culture. Based on the findings the structure of the usability testing program on the WWW design methods is identified. The usability testing program on the WWW comprises of five different modules: module for identifying users' demographic characteristics, module for cultural variables, module for population stereotype, module for usability testing, and module for data storage and analysis. Finally findings are summarized and further research prospects are outlined.

  • The study was intended to evaluate common spaces of office building in view point of universal design. The common spaces were access road, main entrance, parking lot, corridor, and restroom. Two office buildings in Centum city of Busan were evaluated by their workers, each 100 ones. The check list for evaluating them consisted of 36 universal design elements which related to five common spaces. First, there were many universal design elements which need to be improved. Second, among five common spaces, restroom has the most elements to be rated low. First of all, at least one restroom for wheelchair should be provided each floor. Third, even though both of two office buildings were recently built, there were significant difference between their users' evaluations. This implies that the concept of universal design is not applied to office buildings well. Fourth, there were significant difference among users' evaluations according to age, especially in case of design related elements. This means that users' age is an important factor to be considered.

  • Virtual Engineering은 가상현실 기술이 산업계에 적용되고 있는 대표적인 활용 분야이다. 본 글에서는 Virtual Engineering 기술을 소개하고 가상현실 시장 동향을 정리한다. 그리고, 관련 산업계의 대표적인 기술 수요 사례인 “자동차 디자인 가상 품평” 시스템의 구축을 중심으로 가상 디자인 품평 기술의 현황을 정리한다. 이상적인 가상현실품평 시스템은 사용자가 현업에서의 품평 상황과 동일한 체험을 얻을 수 있도록 지원해야 하는데, 이를 위한 핵심 기술로 실사 수준의 고품질 영상 출력을 위한 고해상도 몰입형 가시화 기술과, 사용자가 가상 자동차 사이를 자연스럽게 조작하는 상호작용지원 기술을 소개한다. 끝으로, 현재 한국전자통신연구원 디지털 콘텐츠 연구단에서 개발하고 있는 “자동차 내관 디자인 가상 품평 시스템”을 대표적인 연구 사례로 소개한다.

  • After that Internet was introduced to Korea, Web page has developed from text centered to graphic-centered at its fist stage. At the present, it is improving to a design for users. Furthermore, with the acceleration of Information super-highway construction and generalization of basic technology for multi-media, the educational environment has transformed to demander-focused and internet basis service which transcends time and space. Consequently, the educational structure is converting from instructors unilateral lead to student-centered. Additionally, the common usage and digitalization of information have an effect on progress of education quality and cost saving. Although there are plenty of educational web pages on internet, we can notice that many of them are inconvenient for users to put into practice. The reason is that many experts overlook the fundamental which is the basic skill for design and understanding of Web must be accompanied with Web design. Therefore, this thesis will find out the points users should consider for use of Web page and realize the educational web page, reflected for VRML training.

Development of Universal Graphic User Interface Design for MS Windows for Elderly Users (고령사용자를 위한 MS Windows유니버설 GUI디자인 개발)

  • As the interest and use of computer have been increased among elderly users according to the entry to the aging society, the issue of universal design for computer usability was brought forward. Especially, it is widely recognized that universal UI(User Interlace) design on MS windows is important. The objective of this study is to conceptualize Universal GUI design on MS windows which can be used more easily and intuitively by novice users such as elderly and housewives. Especially, the solution for Universal GUI design on MS windows was developed by reflecting elderly users' needs because elderly users is the group with more difficulties than other user groups in learning and using MS windows. First, elderly user's needs was collected by participant observation as a teaching assistant in computer dass for elderly people for 4 weeks. Secondly, the experimental test and in-depth interview was implemented to find difficulties factors and needs in addition to participant observation. Based on the findings, the new GUI design solution was suggested. The design solution consists of ideas in several categories such as setting default, simplification of function for easy conceptual model making, customization of function and working environment, and intuitive GUI in interaction process. The new MS windows GUI design can be accessed by novice mode when user login in window XP. This study has the significance in finding elderly users detailed needs through in-depth and long term participant observation. However, the usability of the suggested prototype needs to be verified to various user groups besides elderly users in the future.

  • 제품의 기능이 다양화 되고 신제품의 출시기간이 짧아지면서 소비자들은 새로운 제품의 조작 방법을 익히는데 어려움을 겪게 된다. 사용자 중심의 잘 설계된 메뉴 구조는 이러한 사용성 문제를 해결 해줄 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 사용자 중심의 좋은 정보 구조 설계를 위해 활성화 확산의 비대칭 전이를 이용한 메뉴구조 및 레이블 평가 방법을 연구하였다. 활성화 확산 실험은 반응 시간이 짧을수록 연상 강도가 강하고, 단어 쌍간의 관계가 밀접함을 보여주므로, 잘 디자인된 메뉴구조는 상-하위 메뉴 쌍의 연상 정도가 활성화 진행 방향의 영향을 받지 않는다는 가설을 세울 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 휴대폰(모델명;SPH-W2900)의 메뉴를 추출하여 1차 활성화 확산(SAT)실험을 수행한 뒤, 각 메뉴 쌍에 대하여 정확도와 진행 방향에 따른 반응시간의 차이(비대칭 전이)를 파악함으로 레이블의 문제점을 도출하고 메뉴 구조 및 어휘를 개선하였다. 2차 활성화 확산 실험은 개선된 메뉴 쌍에 대해 비대칭 전이 현상이 감소하였는지를 확인하기 위해 실시되었으며 활성화 진행 방향에 대한 반응시간의 차이(비대칭 전이)는 월등히 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구에서 제시하는 활성화 확산의 비대칭전이는 사용자 중심의 메뉴 레이블을 정의 하는데 도움이 될 것이다.

  • As scenario-based design is expanded to various fields of design, it is introduced to HCI(Human Computer Interaction) in order to figure out user information & tasks. However, scenario based design methods that is focused on collecting scenarios regarding users'needs, is mainly utilized conceptual design stage for system itself. There is a gap between users'need scenarios to interface design of HCI system. In this study, web survey is suggested as scenario based interface design method in order to connect scenario collecting to task specification and to menu structure design of home-network controller. The degree of users'need for specified tasks was verified to various kinds of users through web survey and it decideddepth and order of menu structure. Tasks also was categorized to situation mode and users can make their own menu structure by selecting menu contents or even mode itself, because degrees of need for specified task situation were varied by lifestyle of user group. Finally, it is found that web survey method can be applied to collect and database various scenarios of. various users when a questionnaire is well designed for collection.

  • This study focuses on user experience of Ant Insurance Platform(insurance product of Alibaba) and provides insights and improvement advises based on the survey conducted. Given that insurance claim is the most controversial part during the whole process, it is essential to conduct corresponding research from users' prospective. Some Chinese users between their 20's and 40's, who are major users of mobile insurance platforms, were selected as a sample group. Questionaire survey, which was made based on measurement items from Information systems success model, as well as in-depth interview was conducted within the group. According to the result, health, among all kinds, is the most difficult insurance to claim, which was mainly cause by security and information concerns. In order to enhance security, more options should be given to users. As for information, complains should be delt carefully and transparently. This study is expected to be used as referential material for mobile insurance platforms and user experience of insurance claims.
