  • This study analyzed the determinants that affect employment retention rate in order to diagnose dynamic employment stability in Korea. For this analysis, we constructed multi-level hierarchical data linking Workplace panel survey data and employment insurance job history data. And the determinants were analyzed using a multi-level analysis model suitable for these data. As result of the analysis, it is estimated that the employment stability is very low in Korea due to the widespread existence of the marginal sectors with low wage level and high level of nonstandard employment. In addition, the results of this analysis show that employment structure of Korea occupies considerable area of short-term employment where employment and unemployment are repeated, and overall employment stability is weak. This fact is likely to be a limiting factor for continued growth, as there is limited opportunity for skill development and skills formation at the corporate and individual levels. According to the results of this analysis, it is required to improve the quality of the employment structure for continuous growth and skill formation.

  • Logistic activities of shippers contains only origin-destin commodity flow information, but also contract relationships, cash flows and distribution channels. Under the lack of understanding of physical distribution channels, most studies have focused on the social and psychological aspects between manufacturers and retailers (e.g., mutual trust, power, conflict, reciprocal commitment, and so on). This study reports empirical results of distribution channel choice drawn from 2001 Korean Commodity Flow Survey(CFS) conducted by Korean government. Based on the CFS data, four distribution channels are classified. This study scrutinized how various factors including mode, commodity and firms characteristics affect distribution channel choice, and reported the problems of 2001 CFS survey questionaires and future directions.

  • In this research, we explore the effects of changes in industrial structure due to industrial restructuring on employment and growth in the Korean economy. To that end, we first investigate the impact of industrial restructuring on employment through Lilien's sectoral shift hypothesis, considering the dependence of industrial restructuring on business cycles. As a result of the analysis, we find that changes in the industrial structure have exerted a short-term effect of increasing unemployment, and that the effects of industrial restructuring are even greater during the economic downturn period. In light of these points, Lilien's sectoral shift hypothesis seems to be valid in Korea. Next, we examine the effect of industrial restructuring on economic growth in Korea by analyzing which one, between the Kuznetz hypothesis and the Baumol effect, is dominant. Empirical results reveal that the mid- to long-term effect of industrial restructuring on GDP growth is significant, which is in accordance with the Kuznets hypothesis, where resource allocation along with industrial restructuring to sectors with high productivity spurs economic growth.

  • This paper empirically investigates the rates of embodied technological change and their relative contributions to total factor productivity growth for manufacturing, using the Korean plant-level manufacturing data for the period of 1985-2003. We adopt a production-based estimation method proposed by Sakellaris and Wilson (2004) in order to examine the marginal productivity increase of each vintage of equipment over time. We find that the rate of embodied technological progress of Korea's manufacturing sector maintains the annual average level of 13.7 percent from 1985 to 2003, slightly lower than 16.9 percent of the U.S., estimated by Sakellaris & Wilson (2004). While the rate recorded a remarkable increase after the 1997 financial crisis, IT-producing and IT-using industries achieved higher rates of embodied technological progress than non-IT counterparts.

  • This study examines the factors affecting Korean firms' adoption of maternity protection practices. From a neo-institutional perspective, we argue that firms adopt institutionally legitimized practices mainly for their legitimacy concern rather than technical efficiency. Analysis of data from Establishment panel survey reveals that firms which belong to public sector, has received foreign investment, bench-mark leading firms, or have HR department are more actively adopting maternity protection practices and are showing lower level of decoupling between model and reality. These results imply that legitimacy concern matters among Korean firms in terms of adopting maternity protection practices. We propose that it is important for government agencies to take institutional factors into account when they try to promote maternity protection policy among firms in dealing with the problems of low fertility and gender equity.

  • This study examined how the emissions of pollutants affect the volume of traffic of freight vehicles in the transport sector. Multiple regression analysis was conducted considering several variables, including population by region, area of urban district, GDP, and the number of businesses by industry, e.g., agriculture, forestry, fishery, manufacturing, wholesale, and retail. These variables differ according to the characteristics of the freight vehicles (industry, by the ton). Therefore, it is essential to fully consider the volume of traffic of the specific freight vehicles by region before implementing relevant programs and policies, such as specific restrictions on the operation of vehicles. Some specific areas, in which logistic centers are located have heavy freight traffic, and these centers deserve extra consideration. Thus, in this study, different regional factors that affect the traffic of freight vehicles should be considered before determining the areas that will be subject to restrictions on the operation of these vehicles.

Marine space utilization was selected as the specialized marine industry activity in Incheon through the location quotient index analysis of the marine industry in the target area. A case review of the Yeongheungdo demonstration area and diagnosis of issues in the marine energy development sector with the lowest degree of specialization was conducted, to solve field problems such as overlapping problems in marine-use zones and civil complaints between stakeholders. It was concluded that it is necessary to prepare a policy decision support system based on objective and quantitative grounds.

  • According to statistics, it is shown that domestic SMEs rely on bank loans for the majority of fund procurement. From financial information shortage (Thin file) that does not provide information necessary for credit evaluation from banks such as financial statements. In order to overcome these problems, recently, in alternative finance such as P2P, using differentiated information such as demographics, trading information and the like utilizing Fintech instead of existing financial information, small funds A new credit evaluation method has been expanding to provide SMEs with small amounts of money. In this paradigm of environmental change, in this research, credit evaluation which can expand fund supply to SMEs by utilizing big data based on trade area information such as sales fluctuation, location conditions etc. In this research, we try to find such a solution. By analyzing empirically the big data generated in the trade area, we verify the effectiveness as a credit evaluation factor and try to derive the main parameters necessary for the business performance evaluation of the founder of SMEs. In this research, for 17,116 material businesses in Seoul City that operate the service industry from 2009 to February 2018, we collect trade area information generated for each business location from Big Data specialized company NICE Zini Data Co., Ltd.. We collected and analyzed the data on the locations and commercial areas of the facilities that were difficult to obtain from SMEs and analyzed the data that affected the Corporate financial Distress. It is possible to refer to the variable of the existing unused big data and to confirm the possibility of utilizing it for efficient financial support for SMEs, This is to ensure that commercial lenders, even in general commercial banks, are made to be more prominent in one sector of the financing of SMEs. In this research, it is not the traditional financial information about raising fund of SMEs who have basically the problem of information asymmetry, but a trade area analysis variable is derived, and this variable is evaluated by credit evaluation There is differentiation of research in that it verified through analysis of big data from Trading-area whether or not there is an effect on.
