Development of disc cutter wear sensor prototype and its verification for ensuring construction safety of utility cable tunnels (전력구 터널 건설안전 확보를 위한 디스크커터 마모측정시스템 시작품 개발 및 성능검증)

  • Most of utility cable tunnels are constructed utilizing shield TBM as part of the underground transmission line project. The TBM chamber is the only space inside the tunnel that encounters rock and soil, and is the place with the highest frequency of accident exposure, such as collapse and collision accidents. Since there is currently no way to measure the disc cutter wear from outside the chamber, frequent inspection by workers is essential. Accordingly, in this study, in order to prevent safety accidents inside the TBM chamber and expect the effect of shortening the construction period by reducing the number of chamber openings, the concept of disk cutter wear measurement technology was established and a prototype was produced. By considering prior technology and determining that magnetic sensors are most suitable for the excavation environment, wear measurement sensor package were developed integrating magnetic sensors, wireless communication modules, power supply, external casing, and monitoring systems. To verify the performance of the prototype in an actual excavation environment, a full-scale tunnelling test was performed using a 3.6 m EPB shield TBM. Based on the full-scale tests, five prototypes were operated normally among eight prototypes. It was analyzed that sensor measurement, wireless communication, and durability performance were secured within a maximum thrust of 3,000 kN and a rotation speed of 1.5 RPM.

Frequency of Micronuclei in Lymphocytes Following Gamma and Fast-neutron Irradiations (방사선 조사량에 따른 인체 정상 림파구의 미세핵 발생빈도)

  • The dose response of the number of micronuclei in cytokinesis-blocked (CB) lymphocytes after in vitro irradiation with $\gamma$-rays and neutrons in the 5 dose ranges was studied for a heterogeneous population of 4 donors. One thousand binucleated cells were systematically scored for micronuclei. Measurements performed after irradiation showed a dose-dependent increase in micronuclei (MN) frequency in each of the donors studied. The dose-response curves were analyzed by a linear-quadratic model, frequencies per 1000 CB cells were ($0.31{\pm}0.049$)D+($0.0022{\pm}0.0002)D^2+(13.19{\pm}1.854) (r^2=1.000,\;X^2=0.7074,\;p=0.95$) following $\gamma$ irradiation, and ($0.99{\pm}0.528$)\;D+(0.0093{\pm}0.0047)\;D^2+(13.31{\pm}7.309)\;(r^2=0.996,\;X^2=7.6834,\;p=0.11) following neutrons irradiation (D is irradiation dose in cGy). The relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of neutrons compared with $\gamma$-rays was estimated by best fitting linear-quadratic model. In the micronuclei frequency between 0.05 and 0.8 per cell, the RBE of neutrons was $2.37{\pm}0.17$. Since the MN assay is simple and rapid, it may be a good tool for evaluating the $\gamma$-ray and neutron response.

Behavior of Tension Clamp in Rail Fastening System (레일 체결장치 텐션클램프의 거동)

  • In a situation in which importance of rail fastening system is growing with increasing the construction of concrete track, an accident of tension clamp(the component of rail fastening system) breaking has been recently occurred. This results from various factors such as field condition, operating agency, running condition, traffic frequency and so on. Thus, the study for the behavior of tension clamp is required. In this paper, an experiment and finite element analysis(FEA) have been performed to analyse the mechanical behavior of tension clamp. The stress and displacement of tension clamp have been analyzed as the clamping force through a laboratory test, and they were compared with FEA results. Furthermore, the stress and displacement of the tension clamp are derived from train load condition applying the verified model, and the fatigue vulnerability of the tension clamp is identified through stress analysis.

Study on a Quantitative Risk Assessment of a Large-scale Hydrogen Liquefaction Plant (대형 수소 액화 플랜트의 정량적 위험도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • In the present study, the frequency of the undesired accident was estimated for a quantitative risk assessment of a large-scale hydrogen liquefaction plant. As a representative example, the hydrogen liquefaction plant located in Ingolstadt, Germany was chosen. From the analysis of the liquefaction process and operating conditions, it was found that a $LH_2$ storage tank was one of the most dangerous facilities. Based on the accident scenarios, frequencies of possible accidents were quantitatively evaluated by using both fault tree analysis and event tree analysis. The overall expected frequency of the loss containment of hydrogen from the $LH_2$ storage tank was $6.83{\times}10^{-1}$times/yr (once per 1.5 years). It showed that only 0.1% of the hydrogen release from the $LH_2$ storage tank occurred instantaneously. Also, the incident outcome frequencies were calculated by multiplying the expected frequencies with the conditional probabilities resulting from the event tree diagram for hydrogen release. The results showed that most of the incident outcomes were dominated by fire, which was 71.8% of the entire accident outcome. The rest of the accident (about 27.7%) might have no effect to the population.

Morale enhancing determination model of information security (정보보호 사기진작 결정모델 연구)

  • As the number of recent information security incident occurrence increases, more and more workload and liability pressure are given to info-security professionals, which results in decrease of morale level of working groups in the field. In order to solve this problem, Korean government is providing various action plans to improve the morale level of info-security professionals, and also requiring financial companies to submit its own action plan of increasing morale of info-security professionals to Financial Service Agency. For this study, based on the previous studies and relevant professionals' interviews, we selected 16 critical morale increase variables, and performed survey for empirical analysis. As a result, 3 features; role, system, and relationship were presented as the main factor of morale increasement of info-security professionals. This study also suggests a decision making method of utilizing the developed morale measurement model for individual organizations.

  • Disasters are the phenomena that we have to prevent the occurrence in order to keep the safety to human lives and properties, and if occurred, we have to minimize the economic, social, and mental costs of the occurred disasters or incidents. This research analyzes the optimal location of fire stations in terms of served population maximization in Seoul. This research introduces "the maximal covering location problem(MCLP)," one of the optimization techniques, as the primary research method. This research also applies a geographic information system into spatial distribution analyses of existing fire stations and observed fire incidents. Results from the analyses show that the existing location of fire stations and branches need to be improved. The dispatch location of fire engines should be reconsidered for rapid services of fire fighting.

Numerical Analysis of Flow and Bed Changes for Selecting Optimized Section of Buried Water Pipeline Crossing the River (하천을 횡단하는 도수관로의 최적 매설구간 선정을 위한 흐름 및 하상변동 수치모의)

  • A water pipeline buried under the riverbed could be exposed by bed erosion, therefore safe crossing sections should be analyzed for preventing damages due to the exposure of pipelines. In this study, flow and bed changes have been simulated using a two-dimensional numerical model for selecting the optimized section of pipeline crossing in the Geum River. As a result of simulation with the 20-year recurrence flood, sediment deposition has been distributed overall in the channel and bed erosion over 2 m has occurred near bridge piers. For the extreme flood simulation, the channel bed near the bridge piers has been eroded down to the buried depth. Therefore, within 140 m upstream of the bridge piers, bed erosion affects a buried pipeline in safety due to bridge pier effects and the crossing section over 150 m upstream of bridge piers is selected as a safe zone of a water pipeline.

  • Service life of water pipes buried in the underground is considerably affected from various factors such as environmental characteristics, pipe characteristics, operation and maintenance, etc. Therefore it is difficult to determine their service life as uniformly the same value assigned by related laws and ordinances. As a result, the service life should be determined by the technical judgement based on the assessment for the condition of water pipes. In this study, It was established that the methodology could predict present and future failure risk, and plan short and long-term strategies for replacement/rehabilitation through the assessment for the physical deterioration and economical values of buried water pipe. The methodology was applied for the verification and reliability to several sites selected in multi-regional transmission pipelines. The proposed method could helps to support reasonable and economical decision of rehabilitation/replacement in the present and future. To improve conventional assessment method of aged water pipes, affecting factors are simplified based on the statistical analysis results from the measured data in the field and the physical deterioration mechanism for better reliability. Also, the guide-line is developed to carry out the reasonal rehabilitation planning through water pipe condition assessment.

  • During the 10 years from 2011 to 2021, a whopping 2,800 people were killed or injured during port work. Among them, the frequency of occurrence at the port loading and unloading business is high. Container terminal operators must conduct risk assessments and establish reasonable safety measures in accordance with laws and regulations. As a research method, the contents of risk assessment presented in the Industrial Safety and Health Act, the Serious Accident Punishment Act, and the Special Act on Port Safety are presented through literature analysis. In this study, previous studies were analyzed to examine the risk assessment method and risk factors of container terminals. The purpose is to present 'industrial safety AI chatbot technology' that can improve the risk of safety accidents.

  • For analyzing the direct contamination pathway of radionudides in rice plants, a Solution containing $^{54}Mn,\;^{57}Co,\;^{85}Sr,\;^{103}Ru$ and $^{134}Cs$ was applied to the aboveground Parts of the between RI application and harvest. Its highest observed value was 0.94. The fractions of the initial plant deposition that remained in rice plants at harvest were in the range of $19{\sim}47%,\;17{\sim}43%,\;19{\sim}42%,\;23{\sim}61%$ and $11{\sim}69%$ for $^{54}Mn,\;^{57}Co,\;^{85}Sr,\;^{103}Ru$ and $^{134}Cs$, respectively, when no decay was assumed. The translocation factors of those radionuclides in hulled seeds were in the range of $6.9{\times}10^{-4}3.8{\times}10^{-2},\;3.6{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}1.6{\times}10^{-1},\;5.8{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}3.2{\sim}10^{-2},\;1.6{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}7.6{\times}10^{-3}$ and $3.2{\times}10^{-2}{\sim}2.0{\times}10^{-1}$, respertively, and were highest when they were applied at the stage of active seed development. It was indicated that the remaining percentage and translocation factor would not be greatly affected by the difference in the rain frequency if it is within a factor of 2. These results can be utilzed for predicting the radionuclide concentrations in rice seeds when an accidental deposition of those radionuclides occurs during the rice-growing season.
