  • This study characterized the spatial and seasonal patterns of light pollution in the Deogyusan National Park and examined the potential effects of light pollution on ecosystems in the park using light intensities derived from VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) DNB (Day and Night Band) nightlight images collected in January and August 2018. Results showed that the Muju Deogyusan resort had the greatest light intensity than other sources of light pollution in the park, and light intensity of the resort was much higher in January than in August, suggesting that artificial lights in ski slopes and facilities were the major source of light pollution in the park. An analysis of an urban-natural light pollution gradient along a neighboring urban area through the inside of the park indicated that light radiated from a light pollution source permeated for up to 1km into the adjacent area and contaminated the edge area of the park. Of the legally protected species whose distributions were reported in literature, four mammals (Martes flavigula, Mustela nivalis, Prionailurus bengalensis, Pteromys volans aluco), two birds (Falco subbuteo, Falco tinnunculus), and nine amphibians and reptiles (Onychodactylus koreanus, Hynobius leechii, Karsenia koreana, Rana dybowskii, Rana huanrenensis, Elaphe dione, Rhabdophis tigrinus, Gloydius ussuriensis, Gloydius saxatilis) inhabited light-polluted areas. Of those species inhabiting light-polluted areas, nocturnal species, such as Prionailurus bengalensis and Pteromys volans aluco, in particular, were vulnerable to light pollution. These results implied that protecting ecosystems from light pollution in national parks requires managing nighttime light in the parks and surrounding areas and making a plan to manage nighttime light pollution by taking into account ecological characteristics of wild animals in the parks.

  • Two dimensional solitary waves are stably propagated in a saturable medium which has a saturable nonlinear index as input intensity. However, in the case of low intensity. a negative fifth-order nonlinear medium has properties of a saturable medium. So a Gaussian beam travels stably. The propagation process into the fifth order nonlinear medium of the Gaussian beam with a weak intensity is investigated by using the computer simulation of the two-dimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation. As a result, it is confirmed that the two-dimensional spatial solitary waves are stably propagated in this medium when the incident powers are self-trapping powers. In the condition of the phase difference and collisional angle between two input beams of 180 degree and 0.05 degree, respectively, we can confirm that all optical switching is as simple as controlling the incident power of one input beam.

  • The main purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of the mimetic reconstruction of artistic space through works of Hwang, Jai Hyoun. His work shows a new world that is not reduced to his life and experiences. But his work has drawn the world with an unpredictable way. This world I call artistic space, and try to interpret the processes that space is created by mimesis. To this end, I first suggest a way to communicate with his work at the intersection of light and darkness(2). I also look at the inside and outside of his art space restructured with mimetic reactions(3). Then I finally critically discuss the artistic space that has time(4), and then get out of the way(5).

  • At the age of uncertainty, the contemporary architecture has been changed by various design approaches as a result of the development of the media. Especially, being issued Phenomenology by Merleau-Ponty the tendency of visual interpretation on the architectural space has been studied positively. This research is to understand a Phenomenological approach to design the interior and architectural space. The phenomenological architectural space is based on knowing about the perception from a body and experience as a contents of the world. The touch from the space designed by Phenomenological architectural express by various way of the Phenomenological light is one of the concept of Phenomenological experience.

  • This thesis has purpose of explaining that light is not only appreciated but also physically percepted in contemporary space design and examining effects of space experience through the physical perception. In keeping with such developments, light has been perceived as the object of another architectural tool in modern space design and has provided men with new experience by providing space image and function different from previous ones. With the expansion of the area of light, light has changed a space that is not a simple architectural factor into the essential concept that gives the architectural space image ! by combining it with architectural space, structure, form and materials throughout the whole process from the beginning to the completion. Through phenomenological approach, light is percepted and experienced by body movement, intervention of senses and memories, and passing of time. The percepted and experienced light brings increase of mutual understanding in space, activation and continuance of user's sensation, recreational experience by event occurrence and space experience effect thorough information from media.

  • Luis Barragan is a representative Mexican architect. He designed architectural space as a local architect in consideration of the Mexico's harsh Mediterranean climate. His manifestation of the regionality can be found mainly in his precise expression of light. Such method and concept of using light in Barragan's architecture made a huge impact on later architects but detailed studies on this issue have not been made actively. Hence, this paper intended to suggest a starting point or an orientation by illustrating the characteristics of using and expressing light in architecture through his cases of housing works. The study method was as follows. First, the general characteristics of light were identified by analyzing the elements of architectural space that dealt with light and the characteristics of expressing light shown in the architectural space. Second, the architectural background of Luis Barragan and the architectural space elements of the light expressed in his architectural space were extracted to form a hypothetical ground. Third, five of his works on the houses in his prime (after the year of 1945) were analyzed to explore the characteristics of relational representation between light and the architectural space elements in his architecture. Through this process, it was learned that, in his architectural works, light was the embodiment of the location-related, time-based, daily and illusionary experience into architecture. In addition, meditative light could be experienced by contrasting the soft and dispersed light and shadow of the inside space of Barragan's houses with the strong external light. Therefore, through the process above, this study is hoped to provide an opportunity for the contemporary architects of our era to rethink the fundamental correlation between architecture and light.
