  • In underground drilling and blasting, particularly in small headings(generally under $20m^2$), the prospects for changes of blast parameters are usually more limited than those employed by large area tunnel(over $20m^2$). It is also well known that the consumption of explosives and specific drilling rate for small tunnel areas are exponentially increased also tunnel areas decrease. To confirm above results, some tests for two tunnels(irrigation water tunnel with $6.0m^2$ area, electric supplies tunnel with $15.0m^2$) are also carried out in this study. As a results, specific drilling rate and specific charge for irrigation water tunnel were decreased from 13.8 to $7.7m/m^3$ and from 4.88 to $2.56kg/m^3$ respectively. Those for electric supplies tunnel were also decreased from 8.0 to $4.9m/m^3$ and from 3.46 to $2.22kg/m^3$.

  • Overbreak is an inevitable during tunnel excavation. It significantly affects tunnel construction cost and safety The overbreak occurs due to incorrect expectations to the geologic structures, excessive charge or strength of explosives, etc. This paper introduces multi-hole drilling method to minimize the overbreak in tunnel excavation. Although the drilling cost of the method is more expensive than those of the existing other drilling method, it is expected at that cost will be reduced.

  • Blasting design methods applied in Korea were originally made for foreign rock conditions and blasting environments. Therefore, it has not been fully fitted to the Korean rock renditions. Since 1998, several studies for the automated pattern design of tunnel blasting have been carried out. As the result, a new blasting design method which can settle the problems was developed. Through it is more complex than prior method, it call provide a variety of advantages for us. Through the method, it is possible to vary charge weight according to the changing advance. It ran also be applied to the various design for contour holes. In this study, the newly developed method is introduced.

  • Herbicidal effects of alachlor to peanuts were observed under different formulations (granule containing 5.0% a.i. and emulsifiable concentrate containing 43.7% a.i.) and levels (granule with 3 and 6kg/l0a and emulsion with 300㏄/l0a) with the transparent polyethylene (P.E.) film mulching. Formulations and levels of alachlor did not affect emergence ratio, time of emergence and flowering, and early growth of peanuts such as the number of leaves and branches, length of branches; and shoot dry weight at 20 and 40 days after planting, but early growth was enhanced by P.E. film mulching. At harvest, weed dry weight was positively correlated with length of branches, but negatively correlated with the number of branches and shoot dry weight. Acalyphu australis and Chenopodium album were not effectively controlled by the application of alachlor and growth of C. album was retarded under P.E. film mulching. Portulaca oleracea and Digitaria sanguinalis were effectively controlled by alachlor, but they were not affected by P.E. film mulching. At harvest, D. sanguinalis, A. australis, and Echinochloa crus galli were predominant weeds in all treatments; persistence of alachlor may not be long enough to control even sensitive weeds to alachlor such as D, sanguinalis in the field of peanuts of which canopy development was relatively slow. Weed dry weight at harvest was negatively correlated with the number of pods and grain yield of peanuts. Among the yield components only the number of nods per plant was positively correlated with grain yield. Hana weeding after July 1 increased grain yield of Peanuts even in alchlor applied plots.

  • The excavation of ground by blasting is widely accepted during construction of the various infrastructures because the cost is relatively low and its process is simple. Although the ground vibration accompanied by the blasting has drawn many theoretical and experimental research interests, the environmental influence of the air blast tends to be overlooked. This means the noise produced from construction sites have been neglected academically even though it is very controversial and hypersensitive case causing many conflicts in environmental problems. In the light of this, this study explores a way of calculation of air blast. Specifically, we measure the actual air blast and explosive noise, and then make the predicted formula of them based on the change of charge per delay using regression analysis. The comparison with the predicted and measured results helps to determine the validity of estimated formula.

  • In this study, a series of FEM numerical analyses was conducted to compare the resistance performance of concrete drainage protection facility to blast vibration. Two different types of ㅁ-shaped protection facility, which are suggested in the study, were compared to the traditional ㄷ-shaped one. In the analyses, the vibration resistances of the three protection facilities were evaluated under the varying conditions of the standoff distance from the explosion and charge weight per delay. As a result, it was found that the two proposed types of drainage protection facilities are superior to the traditional one in the vibration reduction performance.

  • In the tunnelling by blasting, the calculations of charge weight and the estimations of blasting effect have been simply carried out by empirical formulas. Also, it has been rare to consider the impact energy of blasting in numerical analyses. Thus in this study a numerical modeling technique of blasting load is developed and used with the 2 dimensional distinct element method(DEM) to consider the nonlinear behaviour of discontinuous underground structures. TD examine and verify its applicability of the numerical model to actual problems, a blasting of tunnel under an embankment is numerically analysed with DEM. It is examined that the behavior of circumference structures, the displacements of above- and under-ground structures, and the propagation of particle velocities can be known by this numerical analysis. As a result, the blasting load model, proposed by this study, can be applied to actual problems. This model applied with DEM can be used in the examination of structural stability.

  • In surface mining, it is very important to create a mining area for economical mining. This study examined the contribution of design factors on slope stability with different slope design and blasting conditions. The design factors were the properties of the rock, the slope angle and the bench height, and the blasting conditions were reflected at different explosive weight and distances. The safety factor of slope was calculated by shear strength reduction method through 3D modeling, and the contribution rate of rock slope was 94.8%, which is relatively higher than other design factors, slope angle 0.89%, bench height 0.58%, and blasting It is shown that it affects about 3.73%, and it can be seen that blasting at a close distance can affect the stability of the slope.

  • In this study, standoff detonation tests and static beam tests on $160{\times}290{\times}2200mm$ RC beams were conducted to investigate the effect of local damage on the flexural strength and ductility index. And also, blast resistance of RC beams strengthened with steel fiber and FRP sheet were evaluated by these tests. The standoff detonation tests were performed with charge weight of 1kg and standoff distance of 0.1m. After the tests, crater diameters and loss weights of specimens were measured to evaluate the local damage of specimens. Flexural strength and ductility index were measured by conducting the static beam tests on the damaged and undamaged specimens. As a test results, normal concrete specimen(NC) showed relatively large crater and spall diameters that caused weight loss of 23.5kg as a local damage. Whereas, steel fiber reinforced concrete specimen(SFRC) and FRP sheet retrofitted specimens(NC-F, NC-FS) showed higher blast resistance than NC by reducing crater size and weight loss. Flexural strength and ductility index were decreased in case of local damaged specimens by detonation. Especially, large decrease of flexural strength was shown in NC as compared with intact specimen and brittle failure was occurred due to buckling of compressive reinforcement. In case of specimens strengthened with steel fiber and FRP sheet, residual flexural strength and ductility index were increased as compared with NC. In these results, it is concluded that critical local damage can be occurred unless enough standoff distance can be assured even if the charge weight is small. and it is verified that strengthening method using steel fiber and FRP sheet can increase blast resistance.

  • Differential tolerance of rice varieties, Tongil and Mangyung(or Milsung) varieties, against herbicides combined with Simetryne was investigated by the rate of application in 4 places; Jeonju, Gwangju, Iri and Milyang, whose soil textures were Lic, Sic, CL and Lic respectively. The results are summarized as follows: 1) Jeonju a. Initial crop injury At the rate of 2kg/10a prod. no initial crop injury was caused(both to Mangyung and Tongil varieties) on light clay soil, even when treated at high temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ and above. Crop injury was first caused at 3kg/l0a prod. to Tongil variety and the damage increased in proportion to the increase of application rate, while no crop injury was caused to Mangyung variety even at high rate of 5kg/l0a prod. b. Yield Tongil variety: Under high temperature condition in a vinyl house no statistical difference was observed between treated and hand weeding plot at the rates of 3kg/l0a prod. and below. Under air temperature conditions no statistical difference was observed between treated and hand weeding plot at the rates of 4kg/l0a prod. and below. Mangyung variety: No statistical difference was observed between treated and hand weeding plot at the rates of 5kg/l0a prod. and below both under air and high temperature conditions. 2) Gwangju a. Initial crop injury Although almost the same tendency as in Jeonju was observed, a little lighter crop injury was observed in general in Gwangju than in Jeonju at the time of application. And so, no crop injury was caused to Tongil variety until 4kg/l0a prod. and above. b. Yield Tongil variety: No statistical difference was observed between treated and hand weeding plot at 4kg/l0a prod. and below. Mangyung variety: No statistical difference was observed between treated and hand weeding plot at 4kg/l0a prod. and below. 3) Iri No crop injury was caused both to Tongil and Mangyung varieties at 4kg/l0a prod. and below. Also, no reduction of grain yield was observed. 4) Milyang A little lighter crop injury was observed in general. No crop injury was caused to Milsung variety at 5kg/l0a prod. ; Only a slight crop injury was caused to Tongil variety. Yield: No statistical difference was observed between treated and hand weeding plot both of Tongil and Milsung varieties even at 5kg/l0a prod. and below.
