In this paper, a sensor material with Fe/Zr multilayer thin film, in which the change in the magnetization and strain with hydrogenation is maximized, were developed. Compositionally modulated (CM) Fe/Zr multilayers with a $Fe_{80}Zr_{20}$ composition and modulation wavelengths ($\lambda$) $3~50{\AA}$ were deposited by sequentially sputtering (RF diode) elemental Fe and Zr targets. The films were electrolytically hydrogenated to select the optimum Fe/Zr multilayers that show the maximum increases in the magnetization and strain with hydrogenation. The changes in the magnetic properties of the thin films after hydrogenation, were measured using a hysteresis graph and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and the strains induced in the films by hydrogenation were also measured using a laser heterodyne interferometer (LHI). The optimum sensor material selected was incorporated in a fiber-optic hydrogen sensor (that can sense indirectly amount of hydrogen injected) by depositing it directly on the sensing arm of a single-mode fiber Michelson interferometer. The developed sensor holds significant promise for non-destructive test evaluation (NDE) applications because it is expected to be useful for detecting easily and accurately the subsurface corrosion in structural systems.

Design and experiments of a nondestructive testing system with a solenoid eddy current sensor to inspect deterioration of ASCR-OC (ACSR Outdoor Cross-linked Polyethylene Insulated Wires) usually used in HV overhead distribution lines in domestic areas in presented in this paper. Through corrosion mechanisms and deterioration results for ACSR-OC conductors are examined, it is shown that corrosion may lead to the reduction of the effective cross section area of conductors is proposed. The measurement system consisting of a constant current source with a RF frequency, a signal processing unit and a motor driver/ controller is designed and implemented. This instrument has such capabilities as detecting the sensor output and estimating diameter change of the testing conductors, continuously. As a result, it was verified that such corrosion detector system with an eddy current sensor can be shown good effectiveness for estimating the serious faults due to deterioration in overhead distribution lines and giving an early warming before severe aged conductor may lead to fail.

Material properties of the lock plate, which covers the gas-turbine blade, are studied using ultrasonic guided waves. The lock plate is a crucial part of a gas-turbine power plant. The wave velocity and attenuation coefficient are measured to investigate the changes in the material properties under three heat-treatment conditions. Compared to the destructive mechanical tests, the material characterization of Inconel X-750 can be performed more efficiently and nondestructively by using ultrasonic guided waves; this characterization helps identify the changes occurring in its elastic moduli and Poisson's ratio under different heat-treatment conditions. The wave velocity and hardness of Inconel X-750 are proportional to each other. This nondestructive technique for the measurement of material properties can be widely used in various industries to avoid catastrophic failure. It is also expected that the guided-wave technique can be applied as a new cost- and time-saving inspection tool for longer and wider inspection ranges.

The characteristics of microwave reflectometry, which is based on the technologies of FM radar and is applied as a non-invasive method to examine the properties including density distribution of inhomogeneous media, is investigated. The microwave reflectometry system requires not only an optimized system hardware but as well as the understanding of system response from the media under test in order to provide the system solution describing the object under test quantitatively. The introduction of microwave reflectometry especially in the area of applied plasma physics has been relatively new and the number of usage is found to be increasing gradually. The experimental method to characterize the microwave system as a device to examine the properties of plasma is explained. The microwave reflectometry signals consist of the cutoff signals which originate from the region where most of the reflected power comes from and the scattered signals which result as an interaction of the microwave and the density perturbations. This paper describes the experimental results of the scattered signal from the microwave reflectometry, such as the wavenumber dependence and the sensitivity on density perturbation, and the comparison of the characteristics with those from the numerical simulations and those from the cutoff signals.

On this studyed, the Wibongsa BoGwangMyungJun BaekEuiKwanEum wall-painting was conservation of Scientific research ahead. This study carried out Grain size analysis, SEM-EDS, XRD, P-XRF, FT-IR and ultrasonic exploration for wall-painting. As a result, walls layer used to mineral particles size was mixing the medium-texture and fine texture. painting layers pigments used to base paintings was ocher, white pigments was hobun, red pigments was suckganju, green pigments was suckruk. Also BackuiKannon wall-painting walls damage reason of that was long-term physical shocks. painting layers damage was include detachment or powders. it is affected by temperature and humidity. Therefore in the future conservation of wall-paintings through scientific analysis based on such data, conservation processing is performed through the preservation and enhance the stability of the paintings as a basis for the conservation of management can be utilized.
The impact echo and impulse response methods were applied to the safety inspection of concrete structure, which has the rear cavity. The concrete structure model used in this study was divided into four sections, pure concrete, concrete+cavity, reinforced concrete with iron bar, and reinforced concrete+cavity, respectively. Previous study performed by authors have showed a possibility of success to use these method for detection of the rear cavity of concrete structure. Therefore, we tried to get more enhanced result with IE and IR methods through this study. Especially, IE and IR methods are relatively accurate to map the point of measurement, which makes it possible to interpret the depth of the concrete bed and effect by rear cavity with confidence. Followings were revealed from the results; the IE method shows some small peak zones probably indicating the rear cavity in the frequency lower than the resonance frequency and the changes of mobility and dynamic stiffness in the IR method indicate the weak zones. The proposed methods can be used to delineate the weak zones of the concrete structure.
Nondestructive methods to check the vitality of trees and to find out internal decay of old-giant trees include the use of electrical resistance, ultrasound transmission time, microdrilling, and infrared thermography etc. Among these, ultrasound transmission offers some advantages compared to others such as it is an entirely nondestructive detection method and it can be applied to very big trees. However, the ultrasound equipment is comparatively expensive and not broadly spread yet. On the other hand, Shigometer is versatile to be applied to check vitality of the tree and find out internal decay. Electrical conductivity of plant tissues is a very useful characteristics to determine the vitality and internal decay of trees. Electrical resistance of cambial area tells about the vitality of a tree and electrical resistance of heartwood reveals discoloration or decay of it. For determination of the vitality of the tree, the standard equation for calibration of measured electrical resistances should be developed by measuring and analyzing electrical resistance from at least 30-40 trees of the same species with that tree. All the factors, especially tree species, diameter of the stem, and temperature, which can altered the electrical resistance of trees, should be taken into consideration in the development of the equation. If the standard equation is developed for old-giant trees that we should conserve, it will be very useful. In addition, periodical and continued measuring of a certain tree will help to determine the condition of the tree by comparing the measurement with accumulated data of the tree. Measuring electrical resistance of wood might not require the standard equation. But it also needs to check electrical resistance of sound wood of the same tree species. If the stems that should be examined is thicker than 40cm, it is better to use the ultrasound measurement combined to Shigometer.

The precise inspection for safety and diagnosis (PISD) of tunnel has been conducted by the special act on safety control of public structures. However, the present assessment for the segmental lining of TBM tunnel has limitation such as: NDTs for integrity, segmental configuration for field inspection, and consideration for jacking system. Even if the number of TBM tunnel is less than 1% of enrolled facility in FMS, more attention to maintenance should be necessary due to its usage such as multi-use facility and national important facility. Compared to NATM tunnel, excavated by drilling and blasting and then installed lining by cast-in-place within 6~12 m, TBM tunnel is cut out ground by disk and cutter-bit and then assembled 7 pieces of precast segment, 1.2~1.4 m wide. Different features of design, construction, and maintenance should be considered to be more exact evaluation of TBM tunnel. The characteristics of defect is categorized and analyzed with 11 operational TBM tunnels in domestic subway. To be more comprehend various particular defects, foreign studies have been also adapted. Crack and leakage are categorized in 7 patterns. Breakage/spalling and corrosion are also grouped into 3 patterns. Patterned defects or damages are fed back in design, construction, and are useful guidelines for maintenance stage in future.
Earthenware horn cups with horse head decorations were excavated from Tomb No. 7 of Bokcheon-dong, Dongraegu, Busan Metropolitan City. Made of earth in the shape of a horn, these cups are considered to have been used to drink alcohol or beverage. Large numbers of earthenware horn cups of various shapes were excavated from tombs located in the old territories of Silla and Gaya. A pair of earthenware horn cups were excavated from Tomb No. 7, and the two cups are almost identical in overall shapes and manufacturing techniques despite different sizes. Conservation treatment was carried out for the bigger one of the two horn cups this time. There are two cracks toward the horse head decorations around the mouth with missing parts observed. The chest of the horse touches the ground with one side decorating the horse head and the other side facing the conical mouth of the horn cup. It is in the U shape, striking a balance based on two legs attached behind. The surface of the horn cup was made with a potter's wheel, and the connection to the horse head has traces of cutting and trimming. The horse head is expressed realistically with its features including the ears, eyes, nose, and mouth well apprehended and its color is grey This study intended to investigate manufacturing techniques of the artifact by examining its internal structure through the condition survey in a non-destructive way. CT imaging was used to figure out its manufacturing techniques and to diagnose its condition, and accordingly the scientific conservation treatment was conducted to stabilize the artifact. The precise diagnosis on conservation condition found that there are two chips in the spout with their cracks extended. One of the chips is connected with separation added to the crack. The material which has been used for connection in the past was collected for the infrared spectroscopic analysis, which was identified to be nitrocellulose resin for the connection. Therefore, this conservation treatment focused on removing the old material and preventing the spread of cracks. Before conservation treatment, the condition survey and scientific examination for the artifact were carried out to secure data about the earthenware horn cup with horse head decorations(Treasure). Based on them, effective plans for its conservation treatment was sought for and then existing adhesive was safely removed, and restoration material was selected to take into account its reversibility. In addition, the conservation treatment according to optimal methodologies was conducted through the consultation meeting with experts.

Soybeans (Glycine max), one of major upland crops, require precise management of environmental conditions, such as temperature, water, and soil, during cultivation since they are sensitive to environmental changes. Application of spectral technologies that measure the physiological state of crops remotely has great potential for improving quality and productivity of the soybean by estimating yields, physiological stresses, and diseases. In this study, we developed and validated a soybean growth prediction model using multispectral imagery. We conducted a linear regression analysis between vegetation indices and soybean growth data (fresh weight and LAI) obtained at Miryang fields. The linear regression model was validated at Goesan fields. It was found that the model based on green ratio vegetation index (GRVI) had the greatest performance in prediction of fresh weight at the calibration stage (R2=0.74, RMSE=246 g/m2, RE=34.2%). In the validation stage, RMSE and RE of the model were 392 g/m2 and 32%, respectively. The errors of the model differed by cropping system, For example, RMSE and RE of model in single crop fields were 315 g/m2 and 26%, respectively. On the other hand, the model had greater values of RMSE (381 g/m2) and RE (31%) in double crop fields. As a result of developing models for predicting a fresh weight into two years (2018+2020) with similar accumulated temperature (AT) in three years and a single year (2019) that was different from that AT, the prediction performance of a single year model was better than a two years model. Consequently, compared with those models divided by AT and a three years model, RMSE of a single crop fields were improved by about 29.1%. However, those of double crop fields decreased by about 19.6%. When environmental factors are used along with, spectral data, the reliability of soybean growth prediction can be achieved various environmental conditions.
