  • Several problems including respiratory and skin disorders due to the problems for sick house syndrome have occurred, there appears echo friendly materials to solve the problems. The research is lacking in quality management techniques ocher concrete using nondestructive tests. In this research, the experimental works were conducted to study the initial quality control for the compressive strength of Ocher concrete(21 MPa). The purpose of this study is the implementation platform for quality management of ocher concrete using nondestructive tests. It uses the relationship between the compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity of the ocher concrete to estimate the compressive strength of the ocher concrete. And using the impact echo method to estimate the thickness of the ocher concrete. The platform is based on a Java script, so that the user can obtain the data through the platform.

  • In EMAT field, spiral RF coils are much more widely used when compared with solenoid coils. In the field of the magnetostrictive strip transducers for long range ultrasonic testing of cylindrical structures, however, solenoid coils has been used. This seems to be attributed to the difficulty in fabricating low frequency (i.e., large size) spiral coils. In this paper, we describe a method for fabricating spiral coil magnetostrictive strip guided wave transducers from FFC (flexible flat cable). It is demonstrated through a comparison experiment that the spiral coil transducer has much superior performance (sensitivity, SNR, and guided wave direction control capability) than the previous transducer with solenoid coils.

  • A $^{192}Ir$ small-focal source has been developed by using the HANARO reactor and the radioisotope production facility at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The small-focal source with the dimension of 0.5 mm in diameter and 0.5 mm in length was fabricated as an aluminum-encapsulated form by a specially designed pressing equipment. For the estimation of the radioactivity, neutron self-shielding and ${\gamma}-ray$ self-absorption effects on the measured activity was considered. From this estimation, it is realized that $^{192}Ir$ small-focal sources over 3 Ci activities can be produced from the HANARO. Field performance tests were performed by using a conventional source and the developed source to take images of a computer CPU and a piece of a carbon steel. The small-focal source showed better penetration sensitivity and geometrical sharpness than the conventional source does. It is concluded from the tests that the focal dimension of this source is small enough to maximize geometrical sharpness in the image taking for the close proximity shots, pipeline crawler applications and contact radiography.

  • [ $^{169}Yb$ ] industrial NDT sealed sources were developed by using $Yb_2O_3$ pellets as the target and demonstrated for their performance. To produce the pellets, optimal compacting and sintering conditions were determined experimentally. Source holders for $^{169}Yb$ were designed and fabricated. After assembling an active source produced from HANARO with the developed source holder, a demonstration experiment was performed to compare the quality of the radiographs from $^{192}Ir$ and soft X-rays. This demonstration study showed that the developed $^{169}Yb$ produced better radiographs than $^{192}Ir$ for a carbon steel with less than a 4 mm thickness.

  • Ultrasonic testing is one of the most widely used method of nondestructive testing for pre-service inspection(PSI) & in-service inspection(ISI) in structures of bridges, power plants, chemical plants & heavy industrial fields. It is very important to estimate safety, life, quality of structures. Also, a lot of research for quantities evaluation & analyses inspection data is proceeding. But traditional portable ultrasonic flaw detector had been following disadvantages. 1) Analog ultrasonic flaw detector decreased credibility of ultrasonic test, because it is impossible for saving data & digital signal processing. 2) Stand-alone digital ultrasonic flaw detector cannot effectively evaluate received signals because of lack of its storage memory. To overcome this shortcoming, we develop the computer based ultrasonic flaw detector for nondestructive testing. It can store the received signal and effectively evaluate the signal, and then enhance the reliability of the testing results.

  • In this paper, a linear-array transducer capable of overcoming the faults of a single element and phased array transducers with convex shape for non-destructive ultrasonic testing was designed and fabricated. A 5.5 MHz linear-array transducer was designed using the PiezoCAD program based on the KLM analysis and the PZFlex program based on the FEM analysis. A 2-2 composite structure was employed to achieve broad-band characteristics. A 128 element linear-array transducer was fabricated and its performance was compared with the simulation results. The center frequency of the fabricated transducer was 5.5 MHz and the -6 dB frequency bandwidth was 70 %. Thus, we expect that the designed transducer can provide an effective inner image of the test material during non-destructive ultrasonic testing.

  • Typically nondestructive inspection methods of the large gear units are applied to penetrate non-destructive inspection. Nondestructive penetrating inspection put into the small openings of the defect to penetration liquid, remove to excess penetration liquid on the surface of the gear units, spread with developing solution and we can find the small defect by coating with penetration liquid. However, this method has so many issues because of penetrate nondestructive tests on the gear assembly. The steep angle of screw is hard to achieved full penetration and has the problem to remove the excess. In contrast, the magnetic nondestructive inspection is easy to detect subsurface defects and subtle defects. According to the inspection results the stress concentrates in gear surface, some internal defects and microscopic flaws exist on the gear units are not found to penetrate the nondestructive inspection, but magnetic nondestructive inspection could have found many defect. Therefore, a reasonable method of nondestructive inspection for the large gear units is suitable to magnetic nondestructive inspection.
