An Enhanced Wavelet Packet Image Coder Using Coefficients Partitioning (계수분할을 이용한 개선된 워이블릿 패킷 영상 부호화 알고리듬)

  • We propose an enhanced wavelet packet image coder algorithm which is based on the coefficients partition. The proposed wavelet packet image coder uses the first-order entropy to reduce the total compression time, and achieves low bit rates and rate-distortion performance by the zero-tree based coding using correlations between coefficients partition. This new algorithm represents new parent-children relationships for reducing image reconstruction error using the correlations between each frequency subbands and then the wavelet packet coefficients are Partitioned by a new order. The computer simulations demonstrate higher PSNR under the same bit rate and improved image compression time and enhanced rate control compare with conventional algorithms. From the simulation results, it is shown that the encoding and decoding process of proposed coder are much simple and accurate than present method against texture images , which include many mid-frequency elements.

  • We propose a transmit beamforming algerian for array antenna in FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) environments. The proposed method estimates the directions and spectra of the users, and constructs the spatial covariance matrix of the interferences at the downlink frequency. The weights are computed by that covariance matrix and desired user's direction vector Simulations are performed under Rayleigh fading environments. The proposed method don't need the data feedback, has the enhanced performance in BER (Bit Error Rate).

  • This paper presents a selective duality control system to control relative picture quality among the video programs in terms of Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) . The selective quality control system allows variable bit rate (VBR) for each video program to maintain the pre-determitted relative picture Quality among aggregated video programs while keeping a constant bit rate for alt programs to be transmitted over a single constant bit rate (CBR) channel. Thus is achieved by simultaneous controlling the video encoders to generate VBR video streams at the central controller. furthermore, we also suggest a buffer regulation method based on the analysis of the constraints Imposed by sender/receiver buffer sizes and the total transmission rate. Through various simulation results, it is found that the proposed quality control system guarantees that the video buffers neither overflow nor underflow and the quality control errors do not exceed 0.1 dB.

  • This paper presents a novel DCT-based embedded zero-tree coding and optimal bit allocation algorithm for image sequence coding. In order to fully utilize the structure of the conventional standard coding algorithm and improve the coding efficiency, motion estimation and compensation(ME/MC)-DCT hybrid coding structure and a modified zero-tree coding algorithm are applied. After the rearrangement DCT coefficients into pyramidal structure according to their significance on the decoded image quality, the modified embedded zero-tree coding is performed on layered coefficients. Moreover, for a given overall bit rates, a new optimal bit control scheme is proposed to achieve the best decoded image quality in the consecutive frames. The rate control scheme can also provide the equal quality of decoded image with the control of bit rate and distortion for each frame. The various simulation results are provided to evaluate the coding performance of the proposed scheme.

  • Recently, the necessity of underwater acoustic communication and demand for transmitting and receiving various data such as voice or high resolution image data are increasing as well. The performance of underwater acoustic communication system is influenced by underwater channel characteristic. Especially, a delay spread caused by reverberation and multi-path induces the ISI (Inter-Symbol-Interference) and reduces the communication performance. In this paper, we study the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technique for robust the delay spread in underwater channel. We also use the clipping method to overcome the performance degradation in high PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio). We confirm the performances of underwater communication system by the underwater channel model simulation model and experiment in small water tank. As a result, the multi-carrier modulation with clipping method presented low BER and the previous single carrier modulation had high BER.

  • 본 논문에서는 배전계통에서의 통신 환경을 고려하여 개발 사양을 설계하였으며 이러한 기본적인 통신사양을 근거로 배전계통 자동화를 위한 통신제어 시스템을 설계 제작하였다. 그리고, 통신제어 시스템의 성능을 vd가하기 위해서 특성시험을 실시한 결과 모뎀의 비트 찌그러짐은 3.6[%]를 나타냈으며 비트 오차율은 약 1$\times$10-6으로써 통신 신뢰도가 양호한 시스템임을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • A macroblock layer rate control for H.264/AVC has the problem that allocated target bits for current frame occasionally are exhausted too fast due to inadequate quantization parameter assignment. In this case, the maximum permissible quantization parameter is used to encode for remaining macroblocks and it leads to degradation of the visual quality. In addition, the header bits length estimation algorithm used for quantization parameter assignment takes the average header bits length for the encoded macroblocks of the previous frame and the current frame. Therefore, it generates a big mismatch between the actually generated header bits length and the estimated header bits length. In this paper, we propose adaptive quantization parameter decision method to prevent early exhausting target bits during encoding the current frame by considering the number of macroblocks that have negative targets bits in previous frame and the improved header bits length estimation scheme for accurate quantization parameter decision.

  • Non-orthogonal multiple access is the promised candidates in the next generation wireless networks to improve the spectral efficiency by superposing multiple signals. In general, the superposition coding is performed using the difference in channel gain between users based on the user's power allocation. However, when user pairs have the similar channel gain problem, NOMA can not be allowed in the scenario. To overcome this problem, phase rotation based NOMA is presented to increase minimum distance between superposed signals in the constellation point. This paper proposed a novel non-orthogonal multiple access based index modulation using phase rotation. The additional bits can transfer using the index bits that is allocated according to the activated state of the phase rotation. Simulation results are shown that bit error rate and achievable sum rate are better than conventional NOMA.

  • For the purpose of estimation of time variant frequency selective transmission channels, reference symbols are usually employed. The bit error performance of LTE OFDM systems is analyzed in the case of LTE standard reference symbol arrangement. Results show that LTE OFDM system with this LTE reference symbol arrangement is robust against Doppler time variant fading. However, the performance of that system is degraded due to channel estimation error in frequency domain. An equidistant arrangement with a diamond shape structure of reference symbols, however having 4 subcarriers distance in frequency domain, is suggested for the optimal channel estimation.

JPEG Image Quantization Method with Variable Thresholds (가변 임계값을 갖는 JPEG 영상의 양자화 방법)

  • In this Paper VTQM(Variable Threshold quantization Method) is proposed, which enhances PSNR by composing the advantages of round-off and truncation quantization methods. From vast experiments, PSNR's of JPEG images with the method are compared with that of standard JPEG methods. At the boundary which affects the compression ratio, VTQM quantizes with a new threshold to reduce the length of compressed data; otherwise, VTQM employs the round-off quantization method to preserve the original image information. As a result, VTQM reduces bit rate while preserving the image quality. The experimental results show that VTQM enhances PSNR by 0.2∼0.3dB, 0.4∼0.5dB with the same bit rate than those of the traditional truncation and round-off quantization methods, respectively.
