Prevention plans for landslide and slope disasters should be appropriate for a country's budget when considering a systematic investment plan. The systematic management of slopes adjacent to national highways should incorporate reasonable investment risk and the expected degree of damage should be calculated by considering the investment priorities. In terms of priority of investment, the major factors used to determine the degree of hazard are gradient, soil characteristics, RMR (Rock Mass Rating), stability interpretation, type of discontinuities, and history of collapse, among others. The likely consequences of slope failure can be determined by considering traffic volume, the number of lanes, and average vehicle risk. We performed such calculations regarding the priority of investment and performed a regression analysis for 392 slopes located in Yeongseo region, Gangwon province. The calculation results show that collapsed slopes have a higher priority for investment, as do slopes with a high proportion of dangerous sections and locations in valleys.
Recently, with the establishment of active stabilization measures, large-scale collapse of slopes is decreasing. However, the frequency of rockfalls due to the destabilization of floating stones or boulder within or above the slope has not been decreased significantly. As a measure for stabilizing rockfall and disaster prevention, protection methods such as rockfall barriers and rockfall protection nets are typically applied. However, the approach to catching the rockfall in a catchment area by reducing the energy of the rockfall and changing the rolling condition of the rockfall is relatively insignificant. Therefore, in this study, using a general-purpose rockfall simulation program, the change in the rolling characteristics of rockfall according to the specifications of the ditch installed under the slope was investigated. It is expected that the research results can be used as basic data to determine the specifications of the ditch that can be applied to general roads or trails.
Mountain side ditch is constructed at the top of cutting slopes around road and it drains the surface water that flowed from upper part. Mountain side ditch is constructed to keep away the influx of the surface water into cutting faces. However, if Mountain side ditch is constructed on the top of cutting slopes, it is cause of trouble. For example, difficulty of quality control and lack of drainage faculty. Therefore, the faculty and establishment propriety of mountain side ditch are evaluated seriously, according to the condition of ground, topography and rainfall in this paper. Results from the study for the numerical analysis of effect of mountain side ditch indicate that safety factor is enlarged about 3% at rainfall.
The movement of rock cut slopes may result in upheaval of an adjacent road. Because most cut slopes consist of rock, road upheaval due to the movement of a cut slope is a rare phenomenon in Korea. We found that the movement of rock slopes which are heavily weathered and with strongly developed weak zones is governed by circular failure of the overall rock formation rather than by failure along discontinuities. The results of a numerical analysis revealed that the application of a ubiquitous joint model in a continuum analysis is appropriate for anisotropic rocks (e.g., schist) and for slopes for which the stability is influenced by a particular discontinuity. The results of a field investigation and numerical analyses suggest that retaining walls and anchors should be used to stabilize rock slopes and that real-time monitoring equipment should be installed to assess the reinforcing effect of the remedial measures.
In recent rainy seasons, severe rain storms have caused frequent reinforced retaining wall collapses and slope sliding which have lead to casualties. In this paper, investigating cases of reinforced retaining wall failure, the causes of cracks in reinforced retaining wall and slope sliding have been examined, and a finite element analysis considering the construction phase has been done to analyze the cause and characteristics of slope sliding. As a result, reinforced retaining wall displacement has increased due to heavy rain storms and the increase size has been shown to be large. From these results, it has been analyzed that pile driving can have an effect on the collapse of reinforced retaining walls.

The ground around the portal of a tunnel is the most typical part showing the 3-dimensional mechanical behavior in the tunnel. The portal slope is constructed at the weathered soft rock-mass, and remains as a potential sliding mass. The slope failure around the tunnel portal may happen drastically and induce the great disaster; hence, for the permanent stability several special techniques are required. To solve this problem, the ground around the tunnel portal may be excavated in the arch shape to develop the arching effect in horizontal direction. With the arch-type portal slope, one can reduce considerably the excavation mass and the damage of environments. This approach has not been attempted yet due to the lack of understanding and the well-defined analyzing method, so the retaining wall type portal is more universal. The 3-dimensional finite element analyses were carried out to prove that the arch type is more advantageous in safety and cost than the right angle type. The influence of the tunnel construction sequence and the strength of the rock-mass on the slope stability was investigated by focusing on the maximum shear strain in the slope, and the yield zone at the tunnel face.
In this study, slope stability was evaluated in consideration of unsaturated soil behavior to predict landslides. Samples were collected from a landslide site due to heavy rainfall during Typhoon Hinnamnoh. Soil moisture characteristic tests were performed based on the evaporation method using a swelling undisturbed sample and a remolded sample. Based on the hydraulic-mechanical behavior, two-dimensional infiltration and stability analyses were performed. As a result, from the two sample types, it is found that both behaviors exhibited clear differences in the results, and the behavior of the swelling undisturbed sample was able to predict the actual slope failure appropriately.
The rockfall protection fence installed to secure safety against rockfall occurring in cut slope has been designed under the condition with 50kJ of impact energy arising when the 400kg of rock block is falling from 12.5m height. However, in falling case of bigger rock block or from higher place, it is hard to be secure of safety with existing rockfall protection fence. Using the rockfall program, safety analysis for rockfall is conducted in this paper by changing slope height, separating distance from fence, and slope angle, according to rock block sizes. In the result of analysis, when a 400kg of rock block which is designed load is fallen, the existing rockfall protection fence with 2.5m height can secure most of rock fall except some cases for the slope having 20m or less hight, whereas for more than 20m height, the fallen rock is frequently splattered over the rockfall protection fence, as well as the impact energy of rockfall may exceed designed impact energy. Therefore, in the design of rock fence, it is considered appropriate to design that after conducting safety review for rockfall according to the ground conditions, evaluating the bounce height and impact energy of rock fall, and then installing appropriate rockfall protection fence would be applicable rather than just following standards based design drawing.
Climate change, according to the country to increase locality of slope collapse of heavy disaster, such as increasing the likelihood and prior in order to prevent these disasters, "Slope construction design standards (Ministry of Land, 2011)," is prescribed in the relevant guidelines. In recent years, guidelines Slope Stability Analysis of the existing methods when the rainy season infiltration of rainfall, taking into account have been revised to perform more realistic. In this study, according these trends to the analysis of saturation depth by rainfall intensity and soil conditions. Results as a whole, the larger the saturated hydraulic conductivity and depth of rainfall intensity also showed a tendency to rise in proportion but MH, CL did not occur in the saturation region. Analysis of antecedent rainfall case also reflects an overall increase of depth in the saturated, rainfall in many cases is less than the growth rate was higher in the saturation region.
The frequency slope over a year due to climate collapse is connected with huge casualties and property damage, but the situation rarely reduce the damage that gradually increases in size. In order to suppress this, engineers are improved better reinforcement and continued efforts to improve the shear force or withdrawal force. In this study, the GangWhaGu attached to the nail tip that improves the soil nail pullout resistance, and a method to increase the nail integral GangWhaGu maximize the contact area soil - by increasing the friction of the grout seems to increase the effect of slope stability. In order to validate the experiment to determine the effect of reinforcing the soil nail pullout tests of indoor and Behavior GangWhaGu nail and through field tests were conducted and applicability. Experimental results, the case of a pull-out test compared to the GangWhaGu nail through the tensile force of the nail were to increase by approximately 20%.
