Determining Mechanical Properties of ZrO2 Composite Ceramics by Weibull Statistical Analysis (와이블 통계 해석에 의한 ZrO2 복합 세라믹스의 기계적 특성)

  • The Vickers test can be used for all types of materials, and it has one of the widest scales among hardness tests. The hardness may be considered as a probability variable when evaluating the mechanical properties of materials. In this study, we investigate the statistical properties of the bending strength and Vickers hardness in $ZrO_2$ monolithic and $ZrO_2/SiC$ composites depending on the amount of $TiO_2$ additives. The bending strength and Vickers hardness were found to agree well with the Weibull probability distribution. We evaluate the scale parameter and shape parameter in as-received $ZrO_2$ and $ZrO_2/SiC/TiO_2$ ceramics, as well as their heat treated ceramics. We also evaluate the parameters in accordance with the increase in in the indentation load.

  • 유색 금 합금 중의 하나인 퍼플골드(purple gold)는 특유의 적자색(보라색)이 나는 78wt%Au-22wt%Al의 조성으로 이루어진 금 합금으로 많은 각광을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 78wt%Au-22wt%Al(이후 Au1)인 기준 조건보다 Al의 상대조성이 커짐에 따라 보라색과 기계적 물성의 변화를 확인하기 위해 76wt%Au-24wt%Al(이후Au2), 74wt%Au-26wt%Al(이후 Au3), 72wt%Au-28wt%Al(이후 Au4)으로 Al 조성을 22~26%Al까지 변화시키고 이때의 비커스 경도, 광학현미경, EDS, UV-VIS-NIR 색차분석 실험을 실시하였다. 비커스경도 측정결과 Al의 함유량이 증가함에 따라 경도값은 감소하는 경향성을 보였으며, 26wt%Al 이상의 조성에서 Au1 조성에 상응하는 경도 값을 유지할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 광학현미경을 이용한 미세구조 분석결과 Al의 함유량이 증가함에 따라 적자색을 띄는 결정립 $AuAl_2$의 분포는 감소하며, 결정립계에 석출하는 Al-rich 상의 분포와 크기는 증가하는 경향을 확인하였다. EDS를 이용한 성분분석 결과 실제 목표했던 조성과 분석오차를 고려하면 잘 일치함을 확인하였다. UV-VIS-NIR를 이용한 색차 분석결과 Au3 조성까지도 보라색을 유지할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서 비커스경도와 색을 고려하면 기존 19K인 Au1보다 18K의 Au2 조성에서도 퍼플골드 구현이 가능하였다. 이후 Au2 조성으로 블랙홀과 아라크네를 모티브로 하여 실제 주얼리 제품을 성공적으로 제조하였다.

Weibull Statistical Analysis According to Vickers Indentation Load of Peened ZrO2 Composites Ceramics by Different Shot Size (크기가 다른 Shot에 의하여 Peening한 ZrO2 복합 세라믹스의 비커스 압입하중에 따른 와이블 통계 해석)

  • In this study, the effects of shot peening (SP) on the Vickers hardness of $ZrO_2$ were studied. The size of the shot balls were ${\phi}180{\mu}m$ and ${\phi}300{\mu}m$. The Vickers hardness was measured using an indentation load of 98 N and 294 N. The Vickers hardness was evaluated using Weibull statistical analysis. The scale parameters were significantly evident from the indentation load of 98 N and the shot ball of ${\phi}180 {\mu}m$. Generally, the shape parameters were also evident from the small short ball (180sp). Thus, it is shown that the introduction of a compressive residual stress by SP is an effective technique for increasing the mechanical properties of $ZrO_2$.

  • The Vickers hardness test is a common method used to characterize the hardness of ceramic materials. However, the hardness is not a deterministic value, but is a random variable. The objective of this paper is to investigate the statistical properties of the bending strength and a set of Vickers hardness values in single $ZrO_2$ and composite $ZrO_2/SiC$ with a SiC additive. In this work, we compare the characteristic value and variation with the results based on Weibull statistical analysis. The probability distributions of the bending strength and Vickers hardness agreed relatively well with the Weibull distribution. We evaluate the scale parameter and shape parameter in asreceived $ZrO_2$ and $ZrO_2/SiC$ composite ceramics, as well as in their heat treated ceramics.

플라즈마 연질화에 따른 마이크로 구동부품의 기계적 특성과 내식성에 관한 연구

  • 세계전자제품의 부품산업은 21세기 정보화 사회와 함께 IT 산업에서 급성장으로 인해 부품의 소형화, 경량화, 친환경화가 요구되고 있다. IT 산업에서 리드스크류(Leadsrew)는 마이크로 구동부품중의 이송장치를 구성하는 핵심 부품으로 탄소강과 합금강 및 스테인레스강 등이 사용되고 있다. 탄소강은 성형 가공성과 원가 절감에 최적의 소재로서 낮은 표면 경도로 인한 내마모성 저하와 부식 분위기에서의 내식성이 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 탄소강(S20C:${\oint}30{\times}h10$)을 이용하여 플라즈마 질화 표면처리를 통해 표면경도와 내마모성 향상 및 내식성을 높이는 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 방법으로 플라즈마 연질화 공정과 Post Oxidation 공정을 개발하였고, 질화 처리된 시험편에 대해 마이크로 비커스 경도, OEM&SEM, XRD 분석 및 염수분무(KS D 9502) 시험으로 특성을 분석하였다. 연구 결과로 탄소강(S20C)은 마이크로 비커스 경도 분석으로 표면 경도가 600Hv0.025 이상과 염수분무 시험으로 내식성은 24시간 이상의 결과를 얻었다.

Study on the Hardness Measurement of Earthenware : Focusing on the Cup of the Baekje (토기의 경도측정법 연구: 백제시대 배(杯)류를 중심으로)

  • We have investigated the suitable measuring method and condition on the hardness testing for the earthenwares excavated from Poongnap mud castle in Hanseong Baekje period. The earthenwares which used on hardness testing have been classified according to Mohs hardness and external form and color. The Ultrasonic and Equotip testing method have used to the hardness testing on the surface of the earthenwares and the Rockwell and Micro-vickers testing methods have used to the hardness testing on the cross section of the earthenwares. As the results, the two methods applied to the surface of the earthenwares were very hard on the precise measurement and the measuring values were incompatible with the tendency classified according to Mohs hardness and external form and color. On the testing for the cross section of earthenware, the Rockwell-superficial hardness testing method was more suitable for the soft texture earthenware and highest reproducibility of the measuring value obtained at the test load and indentor are 15kgf and 1/16 “iron ball, respectively. The Micro-Vickers hardness testing method was suitable for the hard texture earthenware and highest reproducibility and accuracy of the measuring value obtained at the test load is 100gf. This results show strong possibility of progress on the classifying and comparing study for hardness of the earthenware and therefore active studies are expected on the field.

  • 기계적으로 연마한 고속도강과 구리 두 종류의 서로 다른 기판상에 dc 마그네트론 스파터법으로 TiN 박막을 성막시켜 코팅층의 비커스 미소경도를 측정하였다. 압입체의 침투깊이와 시험하중과의 관계를 log-log 좌표상에 도시함으로써 기판의 영햐응ㄹ 받지 않고 코팅층만의 경도를 측정할수 있는 최대하중인 임계하중(critical load)을 구할수 있었다. 임계하중을 가했을 때 압입체의 침투깊이와 코팅층 두께간의 비율은 코팅층의 두께에 무관하였고 기판의 경도에 크게 의존하였다.

  • In the present study, the Weibull statistical analysis using the Monte-Carlo simulation has been performed to investigate the micro-Vickers hardness measurement reliability considering the variability. Experimental indentation test were performed with a micro-Vickers hardness tester for as-received and quenching and tempering specimens in SCM440 steels. The distribution of micro-Vickers hardness is found to be 2-parameter Weibull distribution function. The mean values and coefficients of variation (COV) for both data set are compared with results based on Weibull statistical analysis. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulation was performed in order to evaluate the effect of sample size on the micro-Vickers hardness measurement reliability. For the parent distribution with shape parameter 30.0 and scale parameter 200.0 (COV=0.040), the number of sample data required to obtain the true Weibull parameters was founded by 20. For the parent distribution with shape parameter 10.0 and scale parameter 200.0 (COV=0.1240), the number of sample data required to obtain the true Weibull parameters was founded by 30.

Antibacterial and Mechanical Properties of Glass Ionomer Cements Containing Functionalized Multi-wall Carbon Nanotube(MWCNT) (기능화 다중벽 탄소나노튜브를 첨가한 글라스아이오노머 시멘트의 항균효과 및 기계적 성질)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the antibacterial effect of functional multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) on the conventional glass ionomer cement(GIC). The MWCNT was incorporated into a commercial powder at 0.125, 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 wt%. Specimens for vickers hardness(VHN) disks(Ø$10mm{\times}2mm$) each were prepared. Indention were made using a load of 200 N and 20 s dwell on four specimens for each distilled water storage time 1d, 7d, and 14days. The antibacterial effects using agar diffusion test with S. mutans and S. aureus. The diameters of the inhibition zones produced around the materials were measured. The results revealed that all the vickers hardness values were increase significantly with incubation time(p<0.05). Regarding the antibacterial effect for S. mutans, all the tested groups showed a slightly higher value not significantly with the control group(p<0.05). However S. aureus statistical analysis indicated a significant difference for antibacterial agents between control and MWCNT containing 0.25 wt%(p<0.05). These results of this study provide that the conventional GIC with containing MWCNT show good antibacterial effect against and favorable mechanical properties. Further this study on the efficient functionalization of multiwall carbon nanotube will be needed.
