  • Characters' nonvocal communication plays an essential role in delivering lines and expressing emotions. A character in a game is represented with its nonvocal behavior combined with a large number of lines. In this paper, characters' nonvocal communication behaviors are categorized and analyzed. Furthermore, characters' gestures and movements are designed with bones for character gesture generation in 2D games. Besides, characters' movements are visualized. In brief, a nonvocal communication system for emotional expression of characters in 2D games is proposed.

  • In this paper, by analyzing the nonverbal communication of personified animals and human animation characters, the differences of gesture and the amount of similarity between personified animal characters and human characters were studied. Accordingly, personified characters were classified into three categories: humanoid characters, animal-like characters and mixed-type characters which possess characteristics of both human and animals. Furthermore, we proposed a 7-step process for the personification of animal characters. Diverse information of personification was provided for animation designers in this paper. A DB system for animal character designing and automation for animation utilizing personified characters are expected to be constructed.

  • This paper analyzed the body images of the posthuman characters in digital games and the nomadic subjects formed through gameplay. Nomadic Subject is the subject with a complex and non-single identity that appears as a posthuman identity. The player experiences posthuman subject directly in the process of controlling characters. Body images of posthuman characters are categorized into three types that imitate idealized bodies, deform the bodies through articulation, and extend the bodies through equipment. The player builds ethical identity by making choices under the constraints of the game.

  • The characters that could be connected to diverse cultural contents have formed diverse platforms with the development of digital technology, and the size of the relevant industry and market is rapidly growing. Recently, the utilization of character emoticons for smartphone messenger has been rapidly increased, so that the characters are settled down as a tool for non-verbal communication, on top of drawing attention as an independent area. With the expansion of character market, the importance of design that could give interest and familiarity to consumers is more emphasized. The body proportion of characters includes the implicative and symbolic meanings that could express diverse personalities. Thus, this study examined the body proportion of the characters with the high consumers' preference, and then analyzed the characteristics of formative elements of character design in accordance with the body proportion. In the results of the analysis, the exaggerated form of SD characters in two or three-head figure, and the realistic Real characters in seven or eight-head figure were preferred. For the SD characters, the colors with a high chroma showing the cute and cheerful image were used. For the Real characters, the cubic effect was expressed through the colors with active images and the light and shade of color. Even though the SD characters have limited motions due to the omitted body parts, the facial movements of animation characters are exaggerated while the Real characters describe the realistic and dynamic motions.

  • Character conveys rich storytelling and various design elements. Domestic characters are changing and developing in various forms through SNS and offline sources, which are being developed in the aspect of contents industry. The purpose of this study is to find out and discuss the factors that character users are using Korean characters as storytelling and color factor. In terms of storytelling, they prefer adventure, fantasy, absurd and humorous stories. In terms of color, it was shown that 4 or more colors were combined without a main color. These main colorless characters gave complex feelings that are not preferred. In terms of storytelling, it is necessary to develop and develop the contents of OSMU(One-source Multi use) through story development with adventure and fantasy structure. In terms of color, it is necessary to configure the user with a simple and simple color which is preferred by the users. Also, the assembly robot toy character needs to increase the satisfaction of the character through simple color composition. As a result of this study, the factors that satisfy the users in terms of storytelling and color are derived. These results will contribute to the development of theoretical aspects, storytelling aspects, and character design industry aspects. Despite the significance of the above paper, it was inevitable to limit the research on the analysis of the storytelling of specific characters, the research through the color analysis framework, the accurate data analysis on the color analysis, and the simple comparative analysis of one.

  • 'Fashion' is one of the most important aspects in game character design. However, despite its influence, analytical approaches in integrating fashion design methods in character designs are rare practices within the industry. The following paper aims point out the practicality of integrating and utilizing theoretical and formative methods in fashion design in creating character concept designs and show how the following application can create visual stimuli for artists in future concepts.

  • This research studies the behavior patterns of a character in FIFA Online3, and the transaction patterns between the characters to present a character that acts like a real person and has social interaction with other characters. A character interacts with others mediated by balls in FIFA Online3, we analysis character's behavior and interactions more cleary. Providing the realistic behavior patterns of a character and the relation in the transaction patterns between the characters based on psychology theory, we can give a player the sense of reality. To define the behavior pattern of a character, this study applied the Ego-state as defined by Transactional Analysis(TA). Based on the Transactions in TA, this study then defined the transaction patterns between the characters, which are produced by the actions that a character in the game. This study also presented how to apply a character's transaction patterns with the examples. It showed that a character can act in the game like a real person by defining how a character acts and interacts in the game.
