  • The ability to make good cost overruns predictions is a very important aspect of in major construction project. The probabilistic cost models can provide more reliable than traditional cost models which have been used in korea to prepare Bill of Quantities, if the actual cost data are sufficient enough to analyze the trends of the variables. The paper considers non-deterministic methods in a cost estimate. The method(referred to as the 'Monte Carlo simulation' method) interprets cost data indirectly, to generate a probability distribution for total costs from the deficient elemental experience cost distribution. The objectives of this research is to develop a method to forecast the probabilistic total construction cost and the elemental work cost

  • A computable general equilibrium model has been used to analyze the likelihood of double-dividend effect in Korean economy. Revenue neutral introduction of carbon tax through the reduction in payroll tax and corporate income tax had been experimented in this regard. Double-dividend measured by income shows the existence of weak double-dividend in both cases, while double-dividend measured by consumption level could not be found in case of carbon tax with corporate income tax reduction. A notable result is in the employment measured double-dividend effect as the sizable strong double-dividend effect were found in the case of carbon tax with payroll tax reduction.

  • Spherical shape of phase change material(PCM) has been prepared by using sodium acetate trihydrate as a latent heat storage medium. Gelatin was used as an effective thickener to prevent undesirable phase separation. Sodium pyrophosphate decahydrate was used as nucleator to decrease the degree of supercooling in the thickened phase change material. Spherical PCM particles of 3-3.5 mm in diameter continuously manufactured with molten PCM with those conditions. The particle size of PCM was not affected by the effluent velocity of molten PCM in range of 1.3-1.8 ml/min. DSC, SEM and XRD were also used to characterize the properties of PCM particles.

  • The synthetic carbon was coated with tin oxide and copper by fluidized-bed chemical vapor deposition method. $(CH_3)_4Sn\;and\;Cu(hfac)_{2s}$ were employed as the metallic organic precursor, respectively. The modified synthetic carbons were used for lithium secondary battery anode to investigate their coating effects on electrochemical characteristics as alternative anode materials for lithium secondary batteries. The electrode which prepared by the synthetic carbons(MCMB) coated with tin oxide gave the higher capacity than that of raw material. Their capacity decreased with the progress of cycling possibly due to severe volume changes. But the cyclability was improved by coating with copper on the surface of the tin oxide coated carbon, which plays an important role as an inactive matrix buffering volume changes.

  • This paper estimates household demand for electricity using a micro-level household expenditure data set. A two-stage estimation method where the endogenous block price estimates are obtained from a discrete block choice model is used. This method successfully identifies a downward sloping conditional demand function with the data, while both the usual two-stage method with instrumental variable estimation and the Hewitt-Hanemann discrete-continuous model fail to do that. The paper simulates the impacts of two hypothetical pricing reforms that reduce the number of blocks and make the price gap smaller. It is shown that the reform may increase the overall consumer benefit, but is regressive.

  • 50-year-old female and 50-year-old male were referred to the department of the oral and maxillofacial surgery of Kyungpook national university dental hospital with asymptomatic lesions on their posterior mandibular body areas. They were discovered incidentally on panoramic radiographs during routine dental examination. Physical examination revealed no remarkable findings. Each panoramic radiograph showed well defined radiolucent lesions without hyperostotic border on their posterior mandibular body area. At first they were diagnosed as benign tumors because they looked like multilocular pattern and one of the patient showed discontinuity of mandibular canal within the lesion. CT scans demonstrated well demarcated and irregular lingual depression filled with fat tissue and they were diagnosed as developmental salivary gland defects. One of the lesion showed no change on follow-up panoramic radiograph after 4 months. Developmental salivary gland defects resembling benign tumor are atypical cases and it is suggested that confirmatory imaging using CT or MRI should be taken.

  • The needs of efficient electricity use and current measurement for electrical safety have been increased. Hence, the current sensor is used, especially non-contact current sensor which can measure the current without blocking the circuit using hall effect. However, the accurate measuring of the current sensor is inhibited due to the inflow of various noises in this current sensor. In this article, a stronger current sensor against the noise is proposed using low pass FIR filter to the existing current sensor. FIR filter was designed to block the range over the certain frequency at the output of the current sensor to eliminate the external noises, and so on. As a result, more accurate and close measurements were possible.

  • Facilities processing raw materials containing naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) may give rise to enhanced radiation dose to workers due to chronic inhalation of airborne particulates. Internal radiation dose due to particulate inhalation varies depending on particulate properties, including size, shape, density, and absorption type. The objective of the present study was to assess inhalation dose sensitivity to physicochemical properties of airborne particulates. Committed effective doses to workers resulting from inhalation of airborne particulates were calculated based on International Commission on Radiological Protection 66 human respiratory tract model. Inhalation dose generally increased with decreasing particulate size. Committed effective doses due to inhalation of $0.01{\mu}m$ sized particulates were higher than doses due to $100{\mu}m$ sized particulates by factors of about 100 and 50 for $^{238}U$ and $^{230}Th$, respectively. Inhalation dose increased with decreasing shape factor. Shape factors of 1 and 2 resulted in dose difference by about 18 %. Inhalation dose increased with particulate mass density. Particulate mass densities of $11g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$ and $0.7g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$ resulted in dose difference by about 60 %. For $^{238}U$, inhalation doses were higher for absorption type of S, M, and F in that sequence. Committed effective dose for absorption type S of $^{238}U$ was about 9 times higher than dose for absorption F. For $^{230}Th$, inhalation doses were higher for absorption type of F, M, and S in that sequence. Committed effective dose for absorption type F of $^{230}Th$ was about 16 times higher than dose for absorption S. Consequently, use of default values for particulate properties without consideration of site specific physiochemical properties may potentially skew radiation dose estimates to unrealistic values up to 1-2 orders of magnitude. For this reason, it is highly recommended to consider site specific working materials and conditions and use the site specific particulate properties to accurately access radiation dose to workers at NORM processing facilities.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how image magnification in dental panoramic radiography is influenced by object position. Five metal balls (4 mm in diameter, 2 for the anterior and 3 for the posterior region on the right side) were placed above alveolar crest of dry skull considering extraction socket and dental arch. Dry skull was radiographed using OP-100D (Instrumentarium Imaging Co., Tuusula, Finland) at proper and displaced position along the sagittal and transverse plane at 3 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm and 15 mm using special mount which can control precise movement. Images were stored in DICOM files and were measured by ruler equipped within INFINITT PACS software (Infinitt Co., Ltd., Seoul, Korea). The mean horizontal magnification was 1.224-1.439 and mean vertical magnification was 1.286 - 1.345 at proper position. Vertical magnification resulted in less variation (1.245-1.418) than horizontal magnification (0.798-6.297) according to the sagittal and transverse displacements. Head positioning is important for linear measurement on panoramic radiography and inclusion of standard object (for instance, metal ball) is helpful to anticipate exact magnification of panoramic radiographs at various location.

  • Ethylbenzene (EB) which has a similar physical properties with p-xylene (pX) was separated from EB/pX mixture by using MFI-type zeolite (TS-1, ZSM-5, and Silicalite-1) coated membranes. The zeolites were synthesized by microwave method to reduce the synthesis time and uniformly formed zeolite particles were coated on the ${\alpha}$-almina tubular support with a thickness of $3-4{\mu}m$. Separation factor and permeation flux of the synthesized zeolite coated membranes were measured to survey the best performance of ethylbenzene separation from different composition of EB/pX mixtures. When the EB/pX mixture of 5:5 molar ratio applied for the separation experiment, it represented the highest separation factor. We also have studied about the effect of the atomic composition of zeolites on the separation performance within the temperature range from 160 to $220^{\circ}C$. TS-1 showed the highest permeation flux of $1,666mol/m^{2*}s^*Pa$ and Silicate-1 showed the highest separation factor of 1.73 at $200^{\circ}C$ respectively.
