Nonlinear hydrological model containing the nonlinearity of effective rainfall, lag time and runoff is presented. In the evaluation of rainfall excess, the polynomial fitting method for total rainfall, 5 day antecedant rainfall and direct runoff is developed. In the application to actual watershed, the estimated model parameters of nonlinear lag model reflecting the nonlinearity of lag time are compared with the parameters, by both the fitting method and the correlation, model which are the modified version of the storage function model. The Successive Approximation Method in mathematical solution and Newton-Rhapson method in numerical solution are found to be superior to the conventional numerical graphic method in the analysis of nonlinear processes.
In the paper, the Image SNR(Signal-to-Noise) distribution proposed in [1] is reviewed from the three points of views: verification, variation, and application of the distribution. First, the proposed Image SNR distribution is verified through the noise-based simulation over a 2D image detector. Second, its variation over the linear/nonlinear gains shows that the noise-effect itself cannot explain every reason for the degraded Image SNR distribution. Third, through the application to optimal selection of the operation parameters, the usefulness of the proposed distribution is clarified.
Objectives: With the object of finding the appropriate conditions and algorithms for dimensional analysis of human EEG, we calculated correlation dimensions in the various condition of sampling rate and data aquisition time and improved the computation algorithm by taking advantage of bit operation instead of log operation. Methods: EEG signals from 13 scalp lead of a man were digitized with A-D converter under the condition of 12 bit resolution and 1000 Hertz of sampling rate during 32 seconds. From the original data, we made 15 time series data which have different sampling rate of 62.5, 125, 250, 500, 1000 hertz and data acqusition time of 10, 20, 30 second, respectively. New algorithm to shorten the calculation time using bit operation and the Least Trimmed Squares(LTS) estimator to get the optimal slope was applied to these data. Results: The values of the correlation dimension showed the increasing pattern as the data acquisition time becomes longer. The data with sampling rate of 62.5 Hz showed the highest value of correlation dimension regardless of sampling time but the correlation dimension at other sampling rates revealed similar values. The computation with bit operation instead of log operation had a statistically significant effect of shortening of calculation time and LTS method estimated more stably the slope of correlation dimension than the Least Squares estimator. Conclusion: The bit operation and LTS methods were successfully utilized to time-saving and efficient calculation of correlation dimension. In addition, time series of 20-sec length with sampling rate of 125 Hz was adequate to estimate the dimensional complexity of human EEG.

In this paper, we consider the relationship between the nonlinearity and correlation immunity of functions suggested in [1], [3]. For the analysis of such functions, we present a simple method of generating the same set of functions, which makes us possible to construct correlation immune functions with controllable correlation immunity and nonlinearity.

Correlation immune functions can be used not only as filter functions or nonlinear combiners in stream ciphers but also as a primitive logic in block cipher. In this paper, we suggest a construction method of correlation immune functions. Using this method, we find lower and upper bound of the cardinality of the correlation immune functions. This result improves Mitchell's result and Yang-Guo's result.

The design of PN(Pseudo Noise) sequences with good cross-correlation properties is important for many research areas in communication systems. In this paper we propose new family of binary sequences $S^r=\{Tr_1^m\{[Tr_m^n(a{\alpha}^t+{\alpha}^{dt})]^r\}{\mid}a{\in}GF(2^n),\;0{\leq}t<2^n-1\}$ composed of Gold-like sequences and find the value of cross-correlation function when $d=2^{n-1}(3{\cdot}2^m-1)$, where n=2k, gcd(r, $2^m-1$)=1. Also we analyze the linear span of $S^r$ for some special r. Proposed sequences are extension of Gold-like sequences and GMW-sequences.

In order to develop an ultrasonic evaluation method for properties degradation of high temperature materials, a number of Cr-Mo-V steel samples were heat-treated and their damage mechanism was examined. Ultrasonic parameters such as velocity, attenuation, and more recently developed nonlinear acoustic parameter were measured. The nonlinear acoustic parameter was found to be most sensitive to material degradation mainly attributed to the precipitation of impurities in grain boundaries. When compared to the electrical resistivity results, the nonlinear parameters showed similar behavior. There existed a relatively good correlation between the nonlinear parameter and the fracture appearance transition temperature (FATT) obtained by Charpy V-notch impact test. Based on the relationship between the FATT and the fracture toughness ($K_{IC}$), correlation between the nonlinear parameter and $K_{IC}$ was established.

The oblique incidence technique for ultrasonic nonlinear characterization was studied in stainless steel 316L alloy subjected to high cycle fatigue. A dog-bone plate specimen was prepared to make different faitgue-driven deformation at each position where the stress concentration could occur in the middle of specimen. In addition to the normal transmission technique, the oblique incidence technique which is newly suggested in this study, was used to measure ultrasonic nonlinear parameter. The fatigued specimen shows higher ultrasonic nonlinear parameter than the virgin specimen for both techniques. Ultrasonic nonlinear parameter highly increases in the middle of test specimen where the stress concentration existes. Relative nonlinear parameter has strong correlation with fatigue damage. Consequently, the oblique incidence technique with longitudinal wave can be potential to characterize high cycle fatigue damage.

Generally, the nonlinearity of ultrasonic waves is measured using a nonlinear parameter ${\beta}$, which is defined as the ratio of the second harmonic's magnitude to the power of the fundamental frequency component after the ultrasonic wave propagates through a material. Nonlinear parameter ${\beta}$ is recognized as an effective parameter for evaluating material degradation. In this paper, we evaluated the nonlinear parameter of Al6061-T6 which had been subjected to an artificial aging heat treatment. The measurement was using the transmitted signal obtained from contact-type transducers. After the ultrasonic test, a micro Vickers hardness test was conducted. From the result of the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter, the microstructural changes resulting from the heat treatment were estimated and the hardness test proved that these estimates were reasonable. Experimental results showed a correlation between the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter and microstructural changes produced by precipitation behavior in the material. These results suggest that the evaluation of mechanical properties using ultrasonic nonlinear parameter ${\beta}$ can be used to monitor variations in the mechanical hardness of aluminum alloys in response to an artificial aging heat-treatment.

In this paper we propose a new family of nonlinear binary sequences generated by $m$-sequences for decimations $d=2^{k-1}(2^{s+1}-2^k+2^{k(i+1)}-2^{ki}-1)/(2^s-1)$ where $n=2k$, $i$ is odd and $s$ is such that $2s$ divides $k$. And we analyze the cross-correlation function between two $m$-sequences for new decimations $d$. Proposed sequences is extension of Rosendahl's sequnces and Dobbertin's sequences.
