A Risk Impact Assessment According to the Reliability Improvement of the Emergency Power Supply System of a Nuclear Power Plant (원자력발전소 비상전력계통 강화 방안에 따른 리스크 영향 평가)

  • According to the results of Probabilistic Safety Assessment(PSA) for a Nuclear Power Plant(NPP), an Emergency Power Supply(EPS) system has been considered as one of the most important safety system. Especially, the interests in the reliability of the EPS system have been increased after the severe accidents of Fukushima Daiichi. Firstly, we performed the risk assessment and the importance analysis of the EPS system based on the PSA models of the reference plant, which is the Korean standard NPP type. Considering a portable Diesel Generator(DG) system as the reliability reinforcement of the EPS system, we modified the PSA models and performed the risk impact assessment and the importance analysis. Although the reliability of the potable DG could be about 20% of the reliability of the alternative AC DG, we identified that Core Damage Frequency(CDF) was decreased by at least 4.6%. In addition, the risk impacts due to the unavailability of the EPS system on CDF were decreased.

  • An LED driving and control circuit has been developed. The LED driver has a new PWM circuit for current control of LED columns with dimming, current and thermal control, and communication functions. The PWM circuit is composed of two ring oscillator and one counter which can be constructed using basic digital logic components. In addition, it has the functions of remote control mode such as ON, OFF, emergency and power saving modes by the serial communication. The PWM generator and control circuit have been designed and fabricated 0.35[${\mu}m$] Magnachip/Hynix digital IC fabrication process. The LED driving and control board using the developed chip is fabricated and tested successfully.

  • The object of this paper is to design a biomedical signal measure systems based on sensor networks for the patient, integrated with computing technology. Using a combination of zigbee RF, embedded hardware and software technologies, as it allows the healthcare center to receive the information on emergency situations and the ordinary state of the patients individually or simultaneously, the healthcare center can copy with quickly a state of emergency and assist the normal life of the patient. In order to meet the low power and other requirements for the proposed system, we introduce a zigbee based RP which is the most suitable solution for improving the performance of our beeper system.

  • 원자로 건물 내부에는 원자로의 안전운전을 위한 다수의 계통, 구조물 및 기기들이 위치하고 있다. 원자로의 안전과 직결되는 안전계통 변수 (수위, 압력) 들은 경우에 따라서는 현장확인이 요구된다. 원자로 가동 중에 운전원에 의한 안전계통변수의 현장확인이 용이하도록 원자로 건물 내부의 출입구 (2 중문) 부근에 수위계, 압력계 등의 현장계기가 위치하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 일본의 (주) 동경전력이 공개한 후쿠시마 제 1 원자력발전소 1 호기 원자로건물의 IC (비상용 복수기, isolation condenser) 조사영상에 나타나는 현장계기의 영상인식에 대해 기술한다. 조사 영상의 분석에 의하면 현장계기들은 기계식의 아날로그 타입이다. 아날로그 타입의 기하구조를 이용하여 계기판 눈금을 인식하고, 계기판 바늘의 기울기 계산을 통해 계기판을 영상 판독할 수 있었다. 이러한 계기판의 영상판독은 후쿠시마 원전 사고와 같이, 고방사선 피폭 우려로 인해 사람대신에 로봇이 원자로 건물내부에 진입하여 주요 계통, 구조물 및 기기의 현장계기를 판독한다고 가정하면, 유용한 기능이다.

  • Special Protection Scheme(SPS) for generator tripping action is an emergency control tool that secures the power system stability by instantly tripping the pre-determined number of generators to avoid the acceleration of the remaining generators in a large-scaled power plants when a fault occurs on the drawing transmission lines. However, since the existing operating conditions of SPS are set based on a peak demand, SPS could trip more generators than required if it is activated during the off-peak demand period. For this, this paper proposes the algorithm for setting the operating conditions of SPS through the online stability evaluation with the periodically updated operating conditions of power systems. The proposed algorithm adopts COA for the accuracy and speed of the stability evaluation, and can reduce the number of tripping generators by SPS during the off-peak demand period. This results in reducing the loss of profit caused by a fault on power systems.

  • Using the CGE model, this paper investigates economic impacts of a shortage in crude oil resulting from voluntary export restraints, OPEC's agreement of a cut in oil production, and/or a storing on speculation. Unlike most previous studies considering oil price as the unpredictable variable, this study constructs the model to determine the oil price endogenously under the condition of an insufficient supply of crude oil. According to IEA's extraordinary steps for a shortage of crude oil, we investigate an economic impact of 7~12% shortage below the level of business as usual. The results show that oil price soars by 17.3~33.5%, the rate of economic growth falls by 0.52~0.96%p, and the consumer price index(CPI) rises by 0.8~1.51%p. These results imply that increasing in 1%p of oil price results in decreasing in 0.03%p of economic growth and increasing in 0.045%p of consumer price index. The production of electricity declines because of the increase in production cost. A shortage of crude oil has an effect on sources of electricity. Most reduction in electricity generation occurs from the reduction in the thermal power generation which is highly dependent on crude oil. The shortage of crude oil causes demand for petroleum to significantly decline but demand for coal and heat to increase because of the substitution effect with petroleum. Demand for gas rise in the first year but falls from the second year.

  • In this paper, the research on the energy storage system adapting super-capacitor has been performed. The most advanced features compared to the conventional lead-acid battery systems is that it can obtain high power capability due to the super capacitor power characteristics. The suggested system can attain high power in short times and achieve high power quality improvements. The application areas are power quality improvement system, motor start power which requires high power during transient times. The energy conversion system consists of bi-directional converter and inverter and advantages of high speed, high power charging and discharging performances. The design steps for the two loop controller of the bi-directional inverter are suggested and verified by the experiment and manufacturing. The two loop controller design starts from linearized transfer function which is calculated from the state averaging model including state decoupling method. The current controller requirements are 20% overshoot and settling time and voltage controller are no overshoot and settling time which is 10 times longer than current controller. The design is verified from the step input response. The designed controllers have unity power factor characteristics and thus can improve the power quality of the grid. It also has fast response time and zero steady state error.

  • The Energy Storage System stores electricity for later use. This system can store electricity from legacy electric power systems or renewable energy systems into a battery device when demand is low. When there is high electricity demand, it uses the electricity previously stored and enables efficient energy usage and stable operation of the electric power system. It increases the energy usage efficiency, stabilizes the power supply system, and increases the utilization of renewable energy. The recent increase in the global interest for efficient energy consumption has increased the need for an energy storage system that can satisfy both the consumers' demand for stable power supply and the suppliers' demand for power demand normalization. In general, an energy storage system consists of a Power Conditioning System, a Battery Management System, a battery cell and peripheral devices. The specifications of the subsystems that form the energy storage system are manufacturer dependent. Since the core component interfaces are not standardized, there are difficulties in forming and operating the energy storage system. In this paper, the design of the profile structure for energy storage system and realization of private profiling system for energy storage system is presented. The profiling system accommodates diverse component settings that are manufacturer dependent and information needed for effective operation. The settings and operation information of various PCSs, BMSs, battery cells, and other peripheral device are analyzed to define profile specification and structure. A profile adapter software that can be applied to energy storage system is designed and implemented. The profiles for energy storage system generated by the profile authoring tool consist of a settings profile and operation profile. Setting profile consists of configuration information for energy device what composes energy saving system. To be more specific, setting profile has three parts of category as information for electric control module, sub system, and interface for communication between electric devices. Operation profile includes information in relation to the method in which controls Energy Storage system. The profiles are based on standard XML specification to accommodate future extensions. The profile system has been verified by applying it to an energy storage system and testing charge and discharge operations.

  • Airport GIS is a comprehensive information system to improve security and efficiency of airport. At the initial stage to make it real, the current status of domestic and international regulations along with relevant standardization bas been reviewed. Gimpo Airport becomes a test-bed to get some ideas about how to bring the airport GIS into workflow by building service model and basic design based on current status and demand analysis of the airport. The 6 service models primarily brought into the project are as follows: (1) Local vehicles safety management in airside, (2) Intelligent traffic control between flights and vehicles at main cross points, (3) Dynamic safety management against FOD in airside and breakage on pavement, (4) Special support vehicle management such as deicing remotely controlled, (5) Response and support for fire vehicles and ambulances of signatory institutions in emergency. The upcoming research topic aims at drawing a specific design and building integrated system in the future.

  • This research illustrates how the hybrid engine system comprising of a two-cycle reciprocal engine with an integrated generator and a battery is prepared for the design process. The purpose of this research is to increase flight endurance taking advantage of the high energy density of hybrid propulsion systems as well as to cope with current environmental issues by reducing fossil fuel. The hybrid system is designed to offer 6 kW power, and the power can be adjusted by controlling the engine's RPM in accordance with load variations. In addition, the battery is adopted to offer extra electric power that this hybrid system cannot cover, and can function as the main power source in limited time in the case of an emergency situation. Besides that, the generator is directly mounted on an engine crank-shaft, and in turn, they can share the same RPM. Thus, it is hypothesized that this integration method can make a compact design possible by reducing space for the installation in the fuselage of UAVs.
