  • These studies was conducted to investigate the influence of ALLELOPATHIC effects of upland weeds on crops and soil microorganisms. The aqueous extract of weed residues were used to identify physiological controll of plant and microorganisms. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The aqueous extract of weeds controlled germination and growth of plant, especially the 5%-extract of Potulaca oleracea suppressed the growth of soybean about 8~12%. 2. The 5%-extract of Potulaca oleracea inhibited effect of phytosynthesis of soybean about 60%. 3. The move the concetration of phenolic compounds in soil, the less a number of actinomycetes and bacteria. 4. The number of soil microorganism(fusarium oxysporum spp.) were decresed as to the concentration of vanillic acid was increased.

  • To search germination inhibitors in higher plants, first of all, some experiments containing selection of test weed seeds and effects of solvents and surfactants for bioassay establishment were conducted. Then MeOH-extracts of 45 plants were assayed for germination inhibition activities against Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv, Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop., Cyperus iria L., Portulaca oleracea L. and Oenothera lamarckiana Ser. seeds. Among them extracts from Rhathiolepis ovata Briat and Picea abies (L.) Karst showed strong inhibitory effect (60-90% inhibition) on the germination of tested weed seeds at 5000 ppm. On the other hand, the extract from Youngia sonchifolia Max stimulated the germination and growth of tested weeds.

  • To establish the system of In vitro plant regeneration, the floral bud and leaf explants of Sedum rotundifolium were cultured on the MS media supplemented with different concentration of 2,4-D, NAA, and BA. The callus induction was more effective in the floral explants than the leaf explants, and was the best on MS medium containing 1.0 or 2.0 mg/L 2,4-D and 1.0 mg/L BA. The highest numbers of shoots were regenerated when callus were cultured on MS medium containing 2.0 mg/L 2,4-D and 1.0 mg/L BA for 8 weeks. The normal root formation from shoot was effective on the MS medium containing IAA alone. The regenerated plantlets were transferred to the pot and acclimatized successfully.

  • The compatibility of herbicide use for soybean cultivation was evaluated from the field and pot trials. Comparing with the check plot, the effects of herbicides at their several doses on the phytotoxic stability of crop plants and on the weeding efficacy were studied. Statistically significant differences were found among the doses, and not among herbicides and interactions between herbicide and dose. Risks on the compatibility for crop plant and weeding efficacy were recognized from the excess-dosed treatments of herbicides tried.

  • A zearalenone derivative, methyldihydroxyzearalenone has been isolated from a plant pathogenic fungus, Drechslera portulacae which causes necrosis on the leaves and stem of Portulaca oleracea. It was characterized as 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10-hexahydro-8, 9, 16-trihydroxy-14-methoxy-3-methyl-1H-2-benzoxacyclotetradecine-1, 7(8H)-dione on the basis of spectral analysis. Methyldihydroxyzearalenone treatment at $3{\times}10^{-5}M$ inhibited root length of Echinochloa crus-galli and Abutilon avicennae by 35.7% and 72.6% as compared with the control, respectively.

  • As environmentally sound agriculture emphasize gradually as well as the importance of environment, many studies on weed and soil nematode control of new concept which does not affect adversely environment are in progress. For this purpose, plant seeds which are representative weed species in field were selected and treated with microwave having generating capacity of $17.73kw/m^3$, and investigated germination rates of weed seeds and the number of soil nematode according to soil moisture contents, soil depth and irradiation times. The microwave effect on the germination rates was extremely high in soil moisture content of 40% and irradiation time over 40 seconds for irradiation time, while soil depth did not affect germination rate. In view of the results so far achieved, it seems that universal dispersed microwave system is effective for the control of weed seeds.

  • The aim of this study was to establish plant regeneration from leaf explants of Sedum tosaense Makino, which is globally rare and endangered species. The leaf explants of S. tosaense were cultured on the MS medium supplemented with different concentration of BA and NAA for callus induction. Callus induction was showed the highest (100%) on MS medium containing $2.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BA and $1.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA. The highest number of shoots were regenerated when callus were cultured on MS medium containing $2.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BA and $1.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA for 5 weeks. The axillary bud were cultured on the MS media supplemented with combination of BA and NAA for in vitro propagation. The highest number of adventitious shoot (7.9 per explants) formed at $1.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA and $2.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BA. For rooting, MS medium supplemented with or without $2.0g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ activated charcoal was tested. The optimal results were observed using MS medium supplemented with $2.0g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ activated charcoal, on which 85.7 (No. of root), 4.6 cm (length of root). 1,200 ppm $CO_2$ and 350 ppm $CO_2$ were supplied for make certain the effects of $CO_2$ on pre-acclimatization by photoautotrophic culture. 1,200 ppm $CO_2$ treatment was established higher than 350 ppm $CO_2$ treatment. Soil acclimatization of in vitro plantlets was the best in mixture soil consisted of peat moss and perlite with 100% survival rate and they showed the maximum growth.

  • For the survey of weed distribution in the cultivated upland of Korea, weed species were investigated at 2 field by crop of 2 myon per kun in 81 kun selected among the 139 kun of the whole country. 232 species in 46 families were observed, totally. From among the result, 165 species in 39 families the in winter crop field, 189 species in 41 families in the summer crop field were classified. 122 species in 34 families were emerged the from the upland crop field of the whole season. Further more, in the 10 dominant weed species which emerged from upland crop field, Alopecurus aequalis, Chenopodium album, slellaria media, Galium spurieum, Capsella bursa-pastoris and Rorippa islandica were dominated in the winter upland and paddy field, and that Erigeron canadensis, Cyperus amuricus, Equisetum arvense and Arenaria serpyllifolia were dominated in the winter upland field, additionally. Stellaria alsine, Bothriospermum tenellum, Trigonotis peduncularis and Polygonum arviculare were dominated in the winter cropping on drained paddy field, additionally. In the summer crop field, Digitaria sanguinalis, Portulaca oleracea, Acalypha australis, Echinochloa crus-galli, Setaria viridis, Persicaria hydropiper, Amaranthus lividus, commelina communis, Chenopodium album and Cyperecs amuricus were dominated.
