A Study on Diurnal Variations of Accommodation (일과 중 조절기능 변화에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine diurnal variation of accommodation on people whose age are between 35 and 50 years old with frequent alternation of accommodation at period 1 (8:00-10:00), period 2(13:00-15:00) and period 3 (18:00-20:00). Methods: All \04 subjects were separated to nonpresbyopia and incipient presbyopia. Tests were done for amplitude of accommodation, accommodative facility and relative amplitude of accommodation. Results: Both nonpresbyopia and incipient presbyopia had the highest amplitude of accommodation in oculus dexter, oculus sinister and oculus uterque at period 2. In addition, the incipient presbyopia showed the statistical significance of daily change. The nonpresbyopia had the most accommodative facility at period 3 and incipient presbyopia had the most accommodative facility at period 2. Their daily variations were statistically significant. Both nonpresbyopia and incipient presbyopia had the most negative relative accommodation of daily change at period I. Both of them had the most positive relative accommodation at period 2. Conclusions: The incipient presbyopia had the highest amplitude of accommodation, accommodative facility. and positive relative accommodation (except the negative relative accommodation) at period 2.

Comparison of Yield and Quality between Organic Cultivation and Conventional Cultivation in Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Field (벼 유기재배와 관행재배의 수량과 품질 비교)

  • 본 연구에서는 2008년 전라남도 나주시 반남지역과 노안지역 두 곳의 벼 농가포장에서 유기재배 및 관행(일반)재배 시험을 수행하고 벼 병충해발생, 생육 및 수량, 그리고 쌀의 품위 및 품질을 비교 분석하였다. 시험의 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1) 벼 병충해 방제는 노안지역 관행재배는 2회, 반남지역 관행재배는 4회 실시하였으며 유기재배는 노안, 반남지역 모두 2회 실시하였다. 포장에서 벼 병해충은 줄무늬잎마름병, 잎도열병, 이삭도열병, 잎집무늬마름병, 흰잎마름병, 혹명나방, 멸구류가 주로 발생하였다. 벼 병해충 중 잎도열병, 이삭도열병, 혹명나방은 관행재배보다 유기재배에서 발생이 많았다. 2) 벼생육상황은 간장이나 수장은 관행재배에 비해 유기재배에서 약간 짧은 경향이었다. 노안지역은 유기재배의 경우 관행재배에 비해 주당수수는 0.6개 정도 많았으나 수당입수, 등숙비율, 정현비율, 현미 천립중이 낮았다. 반면 반남지역은 유기재배의 경우 관행재배에 비해 주당수수는 0.8개 정도 적었으나 수당입수와 등숙비율은 높았고 정현비율은 낮았다. 전체 수량은 유기재배가 관행재배에 비해 노안지역은 84% 수준이고, 반남지역은 94% 수준이었다. 3) 쌀의 품위는 노안지역과 반남지역 두 지역 모두 완전립율이 관행 재배보다 유기재배에서 낮은 경향을 보였다. 쌀의 품질은 반남지역의 경우 유기재배시 기비로 사용한 질소가 관행재배에 비해 많아서 늦게 비효가 발현되어 이삭도열병, 혹명나방 피해가 발생하여 관행재배에 비해 단백질, 취반미 윤기치값이 낮았다. 반면 노안지역의 경우 유기재배시 기비로 사용한 질소가 관행재배에 비해 적어서 관행재배보다 단백질, 백도, 취반미 윤기치 값 등에서 양호하게 나타났다. 이상의 연구 결과를 소비자들에게 홍보하여 이들로부터 소비를 촉진케 함으로써 벼 유기재배 농가의 소득증대에 기어코자 한다.

  • 2007년 한국인의 평균 수명은 78.5세(여성 82세, 남성 75세)로 나타났다. 의학의 발달은 세계적으로 노인인구를 증가시키고 있고 이미 우리나라도 유엔이 분류한 고령화 사회로 진입했다. 단순히 얼마나 오래 살았느냐를 나타내는 지표인 '평균수명'보다 건강하게 얼마나 살았느냐를 나타내는 지표인 '건강수명'이 더 중시되는 시대가 된 것이다. 건강수명 중에서도 '눈의 건강'은 젊게 사는 인생의 중요한 잣대이며 이에 따라 나이가 들면서 생기는 증상 중 하나인 노안에 대한 관심도 높아지게 됐다. 여기서 한 가지 주목할 점은 평균수명이 늘어나도 노안이 찾아 오는 시기는 45세에서 오히려 내려가고 있다는 점이다. 대개 45세 전후가 보편적이나 이전에 비해 30대 후반에 노안이 찾아오는 경우가 늘어나고 있는 것이 현실이다. 노안은 가까운 거리의 물체가 잘 보이지 않는 증상으로 노인들에게 흔히 나타나는 증상 중 하나였으나 최근엔 30대 후반에도 빈번하게 나타나고 있으니 적절한 관리와 주의가 요망된다. 그렇다면 노안의 증상과 치료방법에는 어떠한 것들이 있는지 알아보자.

Presbyopic Spectacle and Monovision for Reading Performance Before Adaptation (노안안경과 모노비젼 콘택트렌즈 착용 후 적응 전 읽기 능력 평가)

  • Purpose: Eye movements and fixation ability are an important procedure to obtain external information and essential means of clear vision. The purpose of this study was to determine the reading performance such as reading time and number of fixations when random text was viewed at varying distances. Methods: Twenty two presbyopes were participated. All subjects were screened for their suitability to participate in the study by clinical examination, and none of the participants had previously worn contact lenses and no previous experience of wearing any types of presbyopic vision correction except single vision. The reading time and number of fixations were recorded using eye tracker while each subjects was waring four vision corrections which included single vision for distance (SV), bifocal spectacle lenses (BIF), progressive addition lenses (PAL), and monovision (MV). The reading material was presented at distance and near distance. Results: Reading time and number of fixations for near stimulus were significantly different among vision correction used in this study (p<0.001). In particular, wearing SV required longer reading time and produced longer fixation duration for near text. However, reading distance text was similarity performed across vision corrections tested and there was no statistical difference found for either reading time and number of fixations. Conclusions: Wearing presbyopic vision correction is advantageous for reading task of near stimuli, but not having near correction such as wearing SV could result in longer reading time and higher number of fixation due to lacks of accommodative ability for near task. For the future studies, it would be interesting to examine the performance of reading both at adapted and unadapted stages as examining only unadapted wearers was limitation of this study.

The Functional Change of Accommodation and Convergence in the Mid-Forties by Using Smartphone (스마트폰 사용에 의한 40대 중년층의 조절 및 폭주기능 변화)

  • Purpose: The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of excessive near work by using a smartphone on subjective symptoms and accommodative and convergent function in their 40s. Methods: A total of 40 subjects(male, 10; female, 30; age, $43{\pm}7.2year$) in their 40s who have monocular and binocular visual acuities of 0.8 and 1.0, respectively, were divided into presbyopia group and non-presbyopia group. The subjects were asked to watch a movie on the screen of smartphone for 30 minutes. Their accommodative amplitude and facility, and relative accommodation were measured and compared before and after the use of smartphone. Changes in fusional vergence and near heterophoria by using smartphone were also evaluated. Furthermore, the change of subjective symptoms was surveyed using a questionnaire. Results: The presbyopia in mid-40s reported discomfort in an order of asthenopia, blur and dryness after the use of smartphone. Accommodative function and non-strabismic binocular function were generally decreased. Accommodative functions such as monocular accommodative amplitude, and relative accommodation were significantly decreased after smartphone use, and the change of phoria was observed as a result of decreased convergence and divergence. Negative fusional vergence was also significantly reduced. On the other hand, non-presbyopia in mid-40s reported discomfort in an order of asthenopia, dryness and blur, and only accommodative amplitude among the accommodative functions was significantly reduced. Significant reduction of negative fusional vergence was also observed. Conclusion: From the results, it was confirmed that the subjective discomfort of mid-40s after smarphone use might be related to whether presbyopia or not. It was due to not only the reduction of accommodative function but also the overall deterioration of visual function including heterophoria and fusional vergence. Therefore, it suggests that the accurate determination of the cause based on the overall visual functional tests such as heterophoria, fusional vergence as well as the decrease of accommodation due to the aging may be necessary when the mid-40s feels discomfortable symptoms by near work.

Comparison of Growth, Yield and Quality between Organic Cultivation and Conventional Cultivation in Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Field (벼 유기재배와 관행재배의 생육 및 수량과 품질 비교)

  • To investigate a comparison of rice yield and quality between organic and conventional cultivation, study for occurrence of rice diseases carried out in rice (Oryza sativa L.) field of Noahn and Bannam region. The results obtained as following: 1) Bactericide and insecticide were applied twice and four times at Noahn and Bannam region in conventional cultivation (C.C) of rice field, respectively, it was applied twice at two region in organic cultivation (O.C). Rice strip virus, leaf blast, neck blast, sheath blight, bacterial leaf blight, rice water weevil, rice leaf folder, and plant hoppers were occurred mainly in rice field. Leaf blast, neck blast, and rice leaf folder were occurred highly at O.C compared with C.C. 2) Growth level of rice in clum and panicle length was lower at O.C than C.C. Number of panicles per hill was by 0.6 higher at O.C than C.C. Number of panicles per hill was by 0.6 higher at O.C than C.C in Noahn region. Number of spikelets per panicle, grain filling ratio, brown/rough rice ratio, and weight of 1,000 grains was lower at O.C than C.C. Number of panicles per hill was by 0.8 lower at O.C than C.C in Bannam region. Number of spikelets per panicle and grain filling ratio was higher at O.C than C.C while brown/rough rice ratio was lower at O.C. Total yield percentage of rice in O.C was level of 84% at Noahn region and 94% at Bannam region compared with C.C. 3) Head rice percentage was lower at in O.C than C.C at two region. Protein and palatability (Toyo value) were lower at O.C than C.C in Bannam region causing occurrence of neck blast and rice leaf folder by oversupply of nitrogen fertilizer. Protein, whiteness, and palatability (Toyo value) were adequate level at O.C in Noahn region by lower nitrogen fertilizer.

A Study of Abnormal Refraction Eye and Progressive Multifocal Lens on Middle aged & Manhood (중·장년층의 굴절이상과 누진다초점렌즈 착용에 관한 연구)

  • To study the ametropia and the sort of glasses, especially progressive multifocal lens, for near purpose on Middle aged & Manhood. 500 adults were tested by the object and subject methods. Among the 500 adults, myopia is 22.4%, hyperopia is 61.4%, and emmetropia is 16.2%, respectively. In test of astigmatism, the amount of astigmatism for the age of forty one to under forty five with-the rule is 28%, the amount of astigmatism against-the rule is 43% and the amount of astigmatism with oblique is 11%, respectively. Whereas, the amount of astigmatism for the age of fifty six to under sixty with-the rule is 10%, the amount of astigmatism against-the rule is 71% and the amount of astigmatism with oblique is 19%, respectively. With-the-rule decreased with increasing age while against-the-rule increased with increasing age. The oblique astigmatism relationship to age could not be determined. The ratio of the progressive multifocal lens was 67.3% for male and 35% for female.

A Study of Eye Refraction state on old Age (노안의 굴절이상과 안경착용에 대한 연구)

  • This study can provide the accurate information on the treatment of visual acuity of a old ages by test of eye refraction state. The test was performed the visual acuity test by the object methods, and subjects was the over 45 old age. The eye types were 12% positive for emmetropia, 19% for myopia. and 69% for hyperopia, respectively. The abnormal refraction eyes were 3% positive for simple myopic astigmatism, 16% for myopic astigmatism, 14% for simple hyperopia, 5% for simple hyperopic astigmatism, 62% for mixed astigmatism, respectively. The axis of astigmatisms were 72% positive for against-the-rule astigmatism, 21% for with-the-rule astigmatism, 7% for ablique astigmatism, respectively.

Analysis of Addition Power for New Wearer of Progressive Addition Lenses (누진렌즈 안경 처음 착용자의 가입도 분석)

  • Purpose: To analyse the addition power of new wearer of progressive addition lenses. Methods: Data of 636 subjects who have been prescribed progressive addition lenses as the first time were used for analyse. The range of age for was between 41~78 years old and they visited the optical practice in Gwangju metropolitan city from 2001 to 2013Date of refractive state, gender and age were analysed. Results: The difference of addition by gender was 1.71 D in male and 1.67 D in women. The difference of addition by refractive error was 1.67 D in emmetropic patients and 1.74 D in myopic patients, 1.90 D in hyperopic patients. The difference of addition by age was1.26 D in 41~44 years old sge group, 1.48 D in 45~49 years old age group,1.72 D in 50~54 years old age group 1.84 D in 55~59 years old age group, 2.10 D in 60~64 years old age group and 2.43 D in over 65 years old age group. The difference of addition by diopter in myopic patients was 1.58 D in low myopic patients and 1.48 D in middle myopic patients, 1.67 D in high myopic patients. The difference of addition by axis of astigmatism was 1.80 D in with-the-rule astigmatism, 1.64 D in against-the-rule astigmatism and 1.65 D in oblique astigmatism. Conclusions: The Addition power of progressive lenses were different according to the types of refractive error, astigmatism axis and age.

Accuracy evaluation of ZigBee's indoor localization algorithm (ZigBee 실내 위치 인식 알고리즘의 정확도 평가)

  • This paper applies Bayesian Markov inferred localization techniques for determining ZigBee mobile device's position. To evaluate its accuracy, we compare it with conventional technique, map-based localization. While the map-based localization technique referring to database of predefined locations and their RSSI data, the Bayesian Markov inferred localization is influenced by changes of time, direction and distance. All determinations are drawn from the estimation of Received Signal Strength (RSS) using ZigBee modules. Our results show the relationship between RSSI and distance in indoor ZigBee environment and higher localization accuracy of Bayesian Markov localization technique. We conclude that map-based localization is not suitable for flexible changes in indoors because of its predefined condition setup and lower accuracy comparing to distance-based Markov Chain inference localization system.
