A Study on the Workflow of Cinematography with 4K High Speed Camera (4K 초고속 카메라 촬영기술의 워크플로우에 관한 연구)

  • 4K high speed camera shooting enables shooting of fast subjects in Full HD 4 times resolution without motion blur due to increase in resolution and shutter speed. However, this shooting incurs several limitations including focus, intensity of radiation and increase in data quantity. As lack of intensity of radiation may occur due to increased shutter speed, it is shoot by opening aperture and limitation in focusing follows. In addition, there is limitation in shooting records since it has restriction in storage due to increased resolution and frame rate. In this regard, this study aims to analyze the limitations shown above through production case of 4K high speed camera (Phantom Flex 4K) and to design effective workflow to overcome this.

VR Tourism Content Using the HMD Device (HMD를 이용한 VR 관광 콘텐츠)

  • VR(virtual reality) which already is used commonly in diverse areas including entertainment, design, and simulation training is most important area in ICT. VR already has various uses within the tourism sector. As VR technology continues to evolve, there is little reason to doubt that it will become more prevalent throughout society and the tourism sector in particular. In this paper, we plan to improve the VR content to the market possibility and competitiveness of VR content in the culture industry. Out of focus, lens dust, motion blur, blur effect were minimized to improve the simulation sickness which caused by the cognitive dissonance in the HMD. And also, the content was considered UI design for user's immersion.

Image Resolution Enhancement by Improved S&A Method using POCS (POCS 이론을 이용한 개선된 S&A 방법에 의한 영상의 화질 향상)

  • In most digital imaging applications, high-resolution images or videos are usually desired for later image processing and analysis. The image signal obtained from general imaging system occurs image degradation during the process of image acquirement caused by the optics, physical constraints and the atmosphere effects. Super-resolution reconstruction, one of the solution to address this problem, is image reconstruction technique that produces a high-resolution image from several low-resolution frames in video sequences. In this paper, we propose an improved super-resolution method using Projection onto Convex Sets (POCS) method based on Shift & Add (S&A). The image using conventional algorithms is sensitive to noise. To solve this problem, we propose a fusion algorithm of S&A and POCS. Also we solve the problem using BLPF (Butterworth Low-pass Filter) in frequency domain as optical blur. Our method is robust to noise and has sharpness enhancement ability. Experimental results show that the proposed super-resolution method has better resolution enhancement performance than other super-resolution methods.

A Best View Selection Method in Videos of Interested Player Captured by Multiple Cameras (다중 카메라로 관심선수를 촬영한 동영상에서 베스트 뷰 추출방법)

  • In recent years, the number of video cameras that are used to record and broadcast live sporting events has increased, and selecting the shots with the best view from multiple cameras has been an actively researched topic. Existing approaches have assumed that the background in video is fixed. However, this paper proposes a best view selection method for cases in which the background is not fixed. In our study, an athlete of interest was recorded in video during motion with multiple cameras. Then, each frame from all cameras is analyzed for establishing rules to select the best view. The frames were selected using our system and are compared with what human viewers have indicated as being the most desirable. For the evaluation, we asked each of 20 non-specialists to pick the best and worst views. The set of the best views that were selected the most coincided with 54.5% of the frame selection using our proposed method. On the other hand, the set of views most selected as worst through human selection coincided with 9% of best view shots selected using our method, demonstrating the efficacy of our proposed method.

Noise Removal Method using Entropy in High-Density Noise Environments (고밀도 잡음 환경에서 엔트로피를 이용한 잡음 제거 방법)

  • Currently, the spread of mobile devices is gradually increasing. Accordingly, various techniques using images or photos are actively being researched. However, image data generates noise for complex reasons, and the accuracy of image processing increases according to the performance of removing noise. Therefore, noise reduction is one of the essential steps. Salt and pepper noise is a typical impulse noise in the image, and various studies are being conducted to remove the noise. However, existing algorithms have poor noise rejection performance in high frequency areas, and average filters have blurring. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an algorithm that effectively removes salt and pepper noise in the high frequency region as well as the low frequency region using entropy. For objective and accurate judgment of proposed algorithms, MSE and PSNR were used to compare and analyze existing algorithms.

Quality Improvement of Interpolated Image Using Weight-Granting Method Based on Median Values Of Local Area (국부 영역 중앙값 기반의 가중치 부여 방법을 이용한 보간 영상의 화질 개선)

  • Interpolation methods to get the magnified image from an image with low resolution use known pixels to make an interpolated pixel. This interpolation process usually generates blurred edges and blocking effect in the result image. To improve these defects, conventional methods multiply proper weights reflecting neighborhood pixels and add the values during interpolating process. The proposed method changes input pixels in consideration of information of neighborhood pixels, gets interpolated pixels by using these values and improves the quality of interpolated image. Firstly, we compute difference values of the diagonal directions of a pixel and classify flat regions and complex regions according to these values. If the regions is complex ones, the proposed method changes an original pixel into a new value using a input pixel and a median value of it's neighbor pixels. Therefore, the proposed method applies bilinear method to the original pixels in flat regions and the changed ones in complex regions and produces the interpolated images. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method with existing methods by using PSNR and the quality of enlarged image. The results show that the proposed method improves PSNR in comparing with conventional methods and that is superior to the existing methods in terms of the quality of the interpolated image.
