  • High-speed brushless permanent magnet machines are good for compressor and aerospace applications, etc. since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size and low weight. This paper presents 3-phase permanent magnet brushless AC Motor designed for the high-speed drives. Especially, we predicted the inverter high frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) switching caused eddy current losses in a permanent magnet brushless dc motor.

  • Conventional LPG pump for Liquified Petroleum injection(LPi) engine has been adopted vane type. But the BLDC type fuel pump for LPi system has complicated structure and its price is high. Therefore, as a alternative, this study has mainly focused on the development of turbine type LPG pump which has lower cost and simple structure than conventional BLDC type. To verify the possibility of substitute the performance tests were performed for each fuel pump. The comparative items were pressure settling time, variation of fuel outlet temperature and engine performance of hot restart ability. As a result, performances of turbine type LPG pump were equivalent or high comparing to the BLDC type all over the tests for different fuel composition.

  • This experiment explains about electrical braking equipment which will be used for 1.2kW PEMFC HEV. The equipment is made of BLDC motor and super capacitor(EDLC). The circuit is designed for regeneration braking that can save the energy from low voltage of generation with BLDC motor. Increasing a regeneration energy from braking system is effected with regeneration current and SoC of super capacitor(EDLC). Electrical braking in electrical vehicle is suitable for regeneration braking with dynamic braking together.

  • Variable Structure System(VSS) la being extended to a new control system of ac servo machines for its merits of simple mechanism and robustness. This paper has studied about applying VSS to position control for brushless servo motor. But VSS has the chattering problem of control input. This chattering phenomenon cause acoustic noises, torque ripple and increase harmonics of the current. One of the useful way to eliminate this defect of VSS, linearlizing the switching function is discussed here. Though the conventional method of linearizing the switching function diminishes the chattering, it may degrade the robustness of the system. In this paper, new linearized switching function which shows robust performance to the parametric variation and reduces chattering simultaneously is introduced and assured by simulation.

  • The brushless motor is getting widely applied to the automotive component with the advantage of the high efficiency, high reliability and etc.. Most of the motor applications require the low vibration and acoustic noise. The cogging torque is the one of the main cause of the noise and vibration. The step-skewed rotor is used to reduce the cogging torque. We analyze the characteristics of the step-skewed rotor and non skewed rotor with the same stator by using 2-dimensional FEM. And then we analyze the characteristics variation according to the rotor eccentricity. The prototype is made and tested. As the results, the step-skewed rotor structure reduce the cogging torque and local radial force but it is more sensitive to rotor eccentricity.

  • Generally, the current controller is located inner the whole controller, so the characteristic of the current controller is important in controlling performance of the upper controller. A current control loop in motor control is designed so that it is 10 times faster than the speed control loop of the upper controller. Thus, the current controller with complex control algorithm is not proper. In this paper, the improved current controller using a conventional digital PI controller and feedforward controller for the brushless BC motor is designed.

  • Brushless DC motors are widely used in many industrial fields as an actuator of robot and driving power motors of electrical vehicle. In this paper adaptive fuzzy sliding mode scheme is developed for velocity control of brushless DC motor. The proposed scheme does not require an accurate dynamic model. yet it guarantees asymptotic trajectory tracking despite torque variations. Numerical simulation and DSP-based experimental works for velocity control of brushless DC motor are carried out.

  • A mixed method between $H_2\;and\;H_{\infty}$ control are widely applied to systems which has parameter perturbation and uncertain model to obtain an optimal robust controller. Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors are widely used for high performance control applications. Conventional PID controller only provides satisfactory performance for set-point regulation. However, with the presence of nonlinearities, uncertainties and perturbations in the system, conventional PID is not sufficient to achieve an optimal robust controller. This paper presents an approach to ease designing a Mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ PID controller for controlling speed of Brushless DC motors and the genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimized problems. Numerical results are shown to prove that the performance in the proposed controller is better than that in the optimal PID controller using LQR approach.

  • For a given brushless DC linear motor, we analyze the thrust characteristics. We measure the back-EMF and then calculate the thrust with it. To compare the thrust, we measure it direct with force-torque meter and we calculate it from Lorentz equation. As the thrust and the back-EMF vary linearly according to the current and the velocity respectively, we define the thrust constant and the back-EMF constant. To match the motor to its controller, we calculate the thrust constant and the back-EMF constant. The result calculated with the back-EMF differs from that of the measurement by only 4.4%.

  • This paper presents an efficient 2D finite element analysis(FEA) for brushless DC motor (BLDCM) taking into account the eddy current and lamination effect of stator. In BLDCM, the dynamic characteristic analysis considering the eddy current and driving circuit is applied for the accurate prediction of motor performance in high speed because the eddy current loss is proportional of square of the driving frequency. According to the variation of lamination number, the characteristics of electro magnetic force, torque, and eddy current loss are analyzed. From the results, it is known that the effect of the lamination of stator on the eddy current loss is verified.
