I have studied serveral patterns of flowering periods in selected floras of the world since 1969. The total sums and patterns of flowering periods in Netherland, South Germany, France, and Mediterranean and Palestine floras are compared. The total sums of flowering periods of the floras are gradually increased from Netherland to Palestine. The patterns of these flowering periods are characteristic, and divided into two categories; northern temperate and Mediteranean climatic types. The patterns of Netherland, south Germany, and France flora belong to the northern temperate climatic type, and thus the peak of flowering period occur in the month of July. These patterns are particularly belong to the Meditteranean climatic type; and thus the peaks of patterns of flowering period occur in April or May. The Increasing patterns of flowering period from January to April or May seems to be dependent upon the combined factors of satisfactory precipitatiion an dincreasing temperature, while the decreasing patterns since the month of the peak is presumably greatly affected by the scanty precipitation in the high temperature seasons.

유사량 조사는 최초로 17세기 초에 이태리에서 실시하였으나 기본 이념이 과학적으로 실시되기는 18세기에 이르러 불란서에서 양적인 유사량을 측정한 것이 처음이었다. 최근에 와서 Linsley(1958)는 상류에서 하류로 유하되는 유사의 60~65%가 하천에서 침전되고 나머지는 유하된다고 하였다.

주요 석유소비국 20개국으로 구성된 국제에너지기구(IEA)는 지난 5월에 회의를 열고 현재의 에너지 소비량을 각국이 년 $5{\%}$씩 절약할 것을 결의하였다. 한편 1인당 에너지소비량이 불란서보다 2.5배, 일본의 3배나되는 미국은 1990년까지 하루 450만 배럴의 석유절약을 달성하기 위한 목표를 설정하였으며 이를 위해 1977년 석유수입량인 하루 850만 배럴 수준으로 연결하는 내용의 비상계획을 발효하기에 이르렀다. 또한 각국은 에너지절약, 신대체에너지개발, 탈석유에너지산업개발 등 에너지대응책 마련에 주력하고 있다.

소리를 학문적으로 다루기 시작한 것은 상당히 오랜 옛날부터였는데, 중국에선 황제가 영륜을 시켜 곤륜산 해곡죽을 꺽거 12음률관을 삼분손익법으로 잘라 음계를, 또 고대그리스의 피다고라스(Pythagorean)은 수학적인 방법으로 피다고라스음계가 창안되고 있었으나, 그것의 과학적인 기초가 연구 확립되기 시작한 것은 비교적 근대의 일로서, 1635년 메르센느(Mersenne)는 음속을 측정하였으며, 현의 진동의 법칙(현의 진동 중 기본진동에 관해서만)을 발견했다. 또 1738년 불란서 학사원에선 공기중에서의 음속을 측정한바 있었으며, 19세기에 이르러 헬름홀쯔(H. Helmholtz)와 레일리(L. Ragleigh)에 의하여 소리의 물리학적인 현상에 대한 이론적인 기초를 대성하여 금일의 음향학의 기초를 확립시키게 되었다. (중략)

French Revolution, while re-establishing the political and social structure, had also changed the cultural conditions of French life and manners. clothing, as with other features of daily life, had some characteristic changes, which this article tried to specify and related with the social conditions. Those specific changes pointed out as typical and discussed herewith are: 1. Clothing manipulated as a political identity kit. 2. Simplification of colors and forms of men's costume. 3. Tendency toward uniformity. 4. Clothing as the symbol of political utopia. 5. The attraction of military uniform. 6. Moral decadence.
