Background : NF-${\kappa}B$ is a characteristic transcriptional factor which has been shown to regulate production of acute inflammatory mediators and to be involved in the pathogenesis of many inflammatory lung diseases. There has been some evidence that PI3K/Akt pathway could activate NF-${\kappa}B$ in human cell lines. However, the effect of PI3K/Akt pathway on the activation of NF-${\kappa}B$ varied depending on the cell lines used in the experiments. In this study we evaluated the effect of PI3K/Akt pathway on the activation of NF-${\kappa}B$ in human respiratory epithelial cell lines. Methods : BEAS-2B, A549 and NCI-H157 cell lines were used in this experiment. To evaluate the activation of Akt activation and I${\kappa}B$ degradation, cells were analysed by western blot assay using phospho-specific Akt Ab and $I{\kappa}B$ Ab. To block PI3K/Akt pathway, cells were pretreated with wortmannin or LY294002 and transfected with dominant negative Akt (DN-Akt). For IKK activity, immune complex kinase assay was performed. To evaluate the DNA binding affinity and transcriptional activity of NF-${\kappa}B$, electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and luciferase assay were performed, respectively. Results : In BEAS-2B, A549 and NCI-H157 cell lines, Akt was activated by TNF-$\alpha$ and insulin. Activation of Akt by insulin did not induce $I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$ degradation. Blocking of PI3K/Akt pathway via wortmannin/LY294002 or DN-Akt did not inhibit TNF-$\alpha$-induced $I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$ degradation or IKK activation. Inhibition of PI3K/Akt did not affect TNF-$\alpha$-induced NF-${\kappa}B$ activation. Overexpression of DN-Akt did not block TNF-$\alpha$-induced transcriptional activation of NF-${\kappa}B$, but wortmannin enhanced TNF-$\alpha$-induced in NF-${\kappa}B$ transcriptional activity. Conclusion : PI3K/Akt was not involved in TNF-$\alpha$-induced $I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$ degradation or transcriptional activity of NF-${\kappa}B$ in human respiratory epithelial cell lines.

Many CDMA systems provide pilot channels in order to help channel estimation process. Especially in wideband CDMA systems, the number of receive diversity paths can be large due to small chip duration and high multi-path resolution capability. Hence, the received signal power of each path is small for a given total SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) and the pilot power of each path may not be sufficiently large for accurate channel estimation. When the pilot power is small, one can use decision-directed channel estimation to utilize more energy of the received data. However, the decision errors can deteriorate the quality of decision-directed channel estimation. This paper proposes a novel channel estimation method that optimally utilizes receiver decisions as well as pilot symbols with the help of estimated SER (symbol error rate) and SNR. The proposed method computes two channel estimates using the pilot and the data channel filters and optimally combines them. The simulation results show that the proposed method is robust and outperforms the conventional pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation method.

This paper presents an active noise cancelling model using wavelet transform and subband filter banks based on adaptive filter. The analysis filter banks decompose input and error signals into QMF filter banks of lowpass and highpass bands. Each filter bank uses wavelet filter with dyadic tree structure. The decomposed input and error signals are iterated by adaptive filter coefficients of each subband using filtered-X LMS algorithm. The synthesis filter banks make output signal of wideband with perfect reconstruction to prepare adaptive filter output signals of each subband. The analysis and synthesis niter hants use conjugate quadrature filters for Pefect reconstruction. Also, The delayed LMS algorithm model for on-line identification of error path transfer characteristics is used gain and acoustic time delay factors. The proposed adaptive active noise cancelling modelis suggested by system retaining the computational and convergence speed advantage using wavelet subband filter banks.
In order to find out whether a reflectron can be used as a mass selector in the gas cluster experiment, computer simulation are performed using the SIMION’ program. flight paths of energetic particles in the reflectron does not depend on their mass but energy. In the case of $(CO_2)n $ gas cluster, however, the position of clusters just after passing through the reflectron are spacially distributed with respect to the mass. The reason that the masses spacially distributes is the E/m ratio of clusters is constant, and it is the key reason that a reflectron can be used as a mass selector. Mass resolution does not depend on the cluster size and incident angle of clusters, and it is proportional to the incident position of clusters. This means that mass resolution can be enhanced by resizing the dimension of a reflectron. Therefore, it is concluded that a reflectron can be used as a mass selector with excellent mass resolution in the gas cluster experiment.
Previously our laboratory showed that Pseudomonas alkylphenolica KL28 possesses two different lap and pcu gene clusters for p-cresol catabolism. In this study, additional gene cluster (pchACXF-pcaHG-orf4-pcaBC) has been identified to encode enzymes necessary for catabolism of p-cresol to ${\beta}$-carboxy-cis,cis-muconate. This gene cluster showed almost identical nucleotide sequence homologies to those in the plasmid of Pseudomonas putida NCIMB 9866 and 9869, British origins, indicating the possibility of a horizontal gene transfer. Through mutagenesis of each gene cluster and gfp-based promoter reporter assays, it has been shown that the three gene clusters are functionally operated and pch genes are induced by p-cresol. Furthermore, the pcu gene cluster of the three was shown to be dominantly expressed in utilization of p-cresol. Mutation of the pcu gene was defective in aerial structure formation under p-cresol vapor, indicating the utilization rate of carbon source is one of key elements for the multicellular development of this strain.

The kinetics of tar formation has been studied experimentally and modeled mathematically for waste lubricating oil after pyrolyzed at batch reactor. And stabilization of pyrolyzed oil has been studied. A combination of series and parallel reaction was assumed for the mechanism of tar formation. From the proposed kinetic model, pyrolyzed oil to tar was found to be rate limiting step for tar formation. It was found that the fly ash and coke had the ability to remove materials of tar formation and to protect oxidation of pyrolyzed oil.
C-P compounds(Pn; phosphonate) such as glyphosate(GPS), aminoethylphosphonate(AEPn) and methyl-phosphonate(MPn) biodegrading genes were cloned from Pseudomonas sp. strain #A1 Which assimilated GPS as sole phosphorous source. Carrying out the in vivo molecular cloning by means of Mini-Mu plasmid, the size of clones($AEPn^+$, $MPn^+$, $GPS^+$) for the gene to degrade C=P compounds are 10-19Kb, 10Kb, and 12-18 Kb, respectively. Moreover, they expressed the phenotype for each Pn when they were transformed into $\Delta phn$ mutants. Hence, it is postulated that Pseudomonas sp.#A1 has three kind of Pn degradative pathway, separately. The phn clones($AEPn^+$, $MPn^+$, $GPS^+$) are verified as the members of PHO regulon because of their phoBR-dependent characteristics.

This study aimed to examine the influence of 3,6-anhydroxygalactose (L-AHG) on the pro-inflammatory M1 polarization and pro-inflammatory responses observed in the RAW264.7 mouse macrophage cell line following stimulation with lipopolysaccharides (LPS). L-AHG exhibited a significant and dose-dependent inhibition of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression, a hallmark of M1 polarization, and subsequent NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Furthermore, the LPS-induced upregulation of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which drives the production of prostaglandin E2, an inflammatory mediator, was also inhibited by L-AHG. L-AHG did not affect the LPS-triggered Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-mediated pro-inflammatory signaling pathway, which culminated in the activation of transforming growth factor-β-activated kinase 1 (TAK1). However, it was observed to inhibit the generation of reactive oxugen species (ROS) in a dose-dependent manner, as well as the TAK1-driven activation of JNK and p38 MAPK. Given that the active p38 MAPK is known to contribute to the assembly of active nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase, which catalyzes the intracellular generation of pro-inflammatory ROS in LPS-stimulated macrophages, the dose-dependent reduction in the LPS-induced ROS generation by L-AHG may be mainly due to the prevention of TAK1-driven activation of p38 MAPK. Together, these results demonstrate that the L-AHG-mediated inhibition of the TAK1-JNK/p38 MAPK activation phase of the pro-inflammatory signaling pathway in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells by L-AHG represents a promising mechanism for suppressing M1 polarization and pro-inflammatory responses in macrophages.
