  • Recently, application fields of non-metallic minerals by utilizing their structure properties are broadening. Especially, layered minerals have not only excellent shielding or covering ability but also absorbing and storing characteristics of chemical elements between a layers. We considered about the above mentioned characteristics and added functional substances onto their surfaces for the preparation of new environmentally friendly functional materials. In this study, natural graphite and sericite were mainly used to produce for the new environmentally friendly functional building materials. Graphite surfaces were modified with a surfactant (Alkyl Benzyle Demethyle Ammonium Chloride) for anti-bacillus and penicillium. Surface modification mechanism are that primary adsorption by differential zeta potential between graphite and ABDM and secondary adsorption by interaction between surfactant chains take place. Surfactant layers were fully formed and it was expected up to 99.7% up the efficiency of anti-bacillus and penicillium. Also the prepared functional samples have a effect to improve a various efficiency such as electromagnetic wave shield(up to 95%), deodorization(up to 80%), heat storage(5%) etc.

  • UHPC has high performance, high strength and excellent mechanical properties. Moreover UHPC(Ultra High Performance Cementitious Composite) has advantage to reduce cross section under the same load compared with other kinds of concrete. But silica fume which is imported from foreign country has a abundant portion in UHPC mixture in comparison with normal concrete. This is one of the main reason to raise the construction cost. Superior mechanical properties of UHPC due to the optimum filling composition can be changed by replacing the very fine ingredient. The purpose of this research is to grasp the characteristic of UHPC which silica fume and silica flour is replaced with limestone powder. This experiment can be divided into three classes according to the kinds of replacement. The compressive strength and flow of all types were measured and microstructure and hydration phenomena for comparing RPC were analyzed by SEM, XRD, NMR method. As a result, the replacement can be considered to be effective by for the decrease of the UHPC structure construction cost and improvement of the fresh UHPC.

  • This study examines the compressive strength, elastic modulus and splitting tensile strength of geopolymer concrete in order to evaluate its mechanical characteristics according to the admixing of fly ash and blast furnace slag. Moreover, identical tests are also conducted considering the amount of powder, the mixing ratio of alkali activator and the mixing ratio of silica fume for further comparative analysis considering various variables. The comparison with the formulae specified in Korean and overseas codes reveal that a mixing ratio of 18% is adequate for the alkali activator and that a replacement ratio of 5% by silica fume is recommended for silica fume. The elastic modulus of the geopolymer concrete appears to increase slightly with the increase of the compressive strength per variable and age and to be smaller than the values predicted by the formulae specified in Korean and overseas codes. In addition, the examination of the stress-strain curves shows that the geopolymer concrete exhibits ductile behavior compared to the conventional OPC. In view of the splitting tensile strength, high strength is observed for a powder content of $400kg/m^3$ and a replacement ratio of 18% by silica fume. The resulting ratio of the compressive strength to the splitting tensile strength is seen to range between 8.7 and 10.2%.

  • When the ambient air pressure was $0.1kg/cm^2$, there were few spherically formed droplets, which showed very badly fragmented state. The average particle size of the particles constituting the droplet was about 40 nm. When the air pressure increased to $0.5kg/cm^2$, the ratio of the spherical droplet forms increased, but still showed a state of severe disruption. The average particle size of the particles was reduced to about 35 nm. As the air pressure increased to $3kg/cm^2$, the ratio of spherical droplet form significantly increased, the degree of fragmentation even further decreased and the average particle size decreased to 30 nm. When the air pressure increased from 0.1 to $1kg/cm^2$, the XRD peak intensity showed little change, but the specific surface area was decreased. As the air pressure increased to $3kg/cm^2$, the intensity of XRD peaks showed a little decrease, while the specific surface area increased.

  • The present study was intended to prepare cobalt oxide ($Co_3O_4$) powder of average particle size 50 nm or less by spray pyrolysis reaction using the raw cobalt chloride ($CoCl_2$) solution, in order to identify the change in the nature of the particles according to the change in the nozzle tip size. When the nozzle tip was 1 mm, it turned out that most of the droplets were spherical and the surface showed very tight structure. The average particle size of the finally formed particles was 20-30 nm. When the nozzle tip size was 2 mm, some of the droplets formed were spherical, but a considerable part of them showed severely disrupted form. particles formed showed an average particle size of 30 - 40 nm. For the nozzle tip size of 5 mm, spherical droplets were almost non-existent and most were in badly fragmented state. The tightness of surface structure of the droplets has greatly been reduced compared with other nozzle tip sizes. Average size of the formed particles was about 25 nm. As the nozzle tip size increased from 1 mm to 2 mm and 3 mm, the intensities of the XRD peaks have changed little, but significantly been reduced when the nozzle tip size increased to 5mm. As the nozzle tip size increased from 1 mm to 2 mm, the specific surface area of the particles decreased, but the nozzle tip size increased to 5mm, the specific surface area remarkably increased.

  • In order to fabricate double-layered porous materials powders of different particle sizes were pressed stepwise. Ford's equation which predicts the fired density with the change in pressed density was employed in order to adjust the difference in sintering shrinkage of the green body with double-layered porous structure. Double-layered porous materials were characterized by investigating microstructures and permeability. SEM micrographs showed the distinct difference in pore sizes of double-layered porous material. Permeability of single-layered porous material increased by increasing the starting particle sizes and porosity as well. Permeability of the double-layered porous material depends largely on the layer of small pore diameter.

  • The conical fluidizing system of a binary mixture of Geldart C powders and Geldart A particles was defined as the conical powder-particle fluidized bed. We used a cold conical powder-particle fluidized bed model having a 0.104m-I.D. and 0.6m-high with an apex angle of $10^{\circ}$ for fluidization of a binary powder-particle mixture of 50 $vol\%$ fine carbon black powders (HI-900L, Korea Carbon Black Co.) and coarse alumina particles $(90{\mu}m)$ under different superficial gas velocities (0-0.1 m/s). The differential bed pressure drop increases with increasing gas velocity, and it goes from zero to a maximum value with increasing or decreasing gas velocity. In the conical fluidized beds of fine powders, demarcation velocities of the partial fluidization, full fluidization, partial defluidization was not observed.

  • The mechanical equipments which are exposed to impure environment undergo significant reductions in their own lifetimes. Several environmental test procedures have been developed to analyze these phenomena. Moreover in the industry to require shorter development duration, accelerated life testers artificially add test containments into machines. In this research JIS Z 8901 test powder was added into internal gear pumps which are used as oil pumps in vehicles and thus the effects of the addition on the degradation of the pumps were examined. Three kinds of contaminants were selected. Two of the contaminants are identical in particle size but different in the composition of the ingredients. The other pair have identical ingredients and composition but different particle size. The quantity of contaminants was also an interesting factor in this study. The results show that each JIS contaminant caused notable degradation in the discharge flow characteristic of pumps while friction torque degradation did not have any tendency. Finally leakage rates were deduced and equivalent wear volume ratios were calculated.

  • Ultrafine NiO/YSZ composite powders were prepared by using a glycine nitrate process for anode material of solid oxide fuel cells. The specific surface areas of synthesized NiO/YSZ composite powders were examined with controlling pH of a precursor solution and the content of glycine. The characteristics of synthesized composite powders were examined with X-ray diffractometer, a BET method with N$_2$absorption, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The strongly acid precursor solution increased the specific surface area of the synthesized composite powders. This is suggested to be caused by the increased binding of metal ions and glycine under a strong acid solution of pH=0.5 that lets glycine consist of mainly the amine group of NH$_3$$\^$+/. After sintering and reducing treatment of NiO/YSZ composite powders synthesized by GNP, the Ni/YSZ pellet showed ideal micro-structure very fine Ni parties of 3-5${\mu}$m were distributed uniformly and fine pores around Ni metal particles were formed, thes, leading to an increase of the triple phase boundary among gas Ni and YSZ.

  • In synthesis of nano powders, the hard agglomeration for the synthesized powders occurred during the drying processing. In order to avoid hard agglomeration in particles the freeze drying process was used in this experiment. e fabricated the Yttira-Doped Ceria(YDC) nano powder by co-precipitation. Starting materials used in experiments were the cerium(III) nitrate and yttrium(III) nitrate solution with 야-water, which two solutions were mixed and then the precipitated hydroxides were prepared for adding sodium hydroxide. The co-precipitated powders were dried by the thermal drying at 8$0^{\circ}C$ for 24 h and by freeze drying at -4$0^{\circ}C$, 30 mtorr for 72 h. The lattice parameter and crystallite size as a function of calcination temperature was characterized by XRD analysis. The lattice parameter of YDC was decreased with addition amount of yttrium and was estimated as 5.401683 $\AA$ at $700^{\circ}C$. Crystallite size were calculated by XRD-LB method, and morphologies were confirmed with the observation of TEM and SEM. The freeze dried YDC powders had medium diameter of 17 nm with more uniform size distribution than the thermal dried YDC posers, which were mainly ascribed to the difference of agglomerates formation during drying stage.
