  • In this paper, a frequentistic approach to impute the values of R, G, B-components in random missing pixels of color image is provided. Under assumption that the given image is a realization of Gaussian Markov random field, its model is designed such that each neighbor pixel values for a given pixel follows (independently) the normal distribution with covariance matrix scaled by an evaluates of the similarity between two pixel values, so that the imputation is not to be affected by the neighbors with different color. An approximate EM-based algorithm maximizing the underlying likelihood is implemented to estimate the parameters and to impute the missing pixel values. Some experiments are presented to show its effectiveness through performance comparison with a popular interpolation method.

  • Presented is a method for nonstationary response analysis of an offshore guyed tower subjected to strong earthquake motions under moderate random waves and current loadings. By taking the time varying envelope function and the auto-correlation function of the ground acceleration in terms of complex exponential functions, an analytical procedure is developed for computing time varying variances of the tower response. The stationary responses due to small random waves are obtained by using frequency domain method, and the results are combined with the nonstationary results due to earthquakes. Finally, the expected maximum responses are estimated. Through the example analyses, the nonstationary method developed in this study is verified, and the contributions of the earthquake, wave and current loadings to the total maximum response are investigated.

  • Technique for the long-gap filling that occur frequently in ocean monitoring data is developed. The method estimates the unknown values of the long-gap by the summation of the estimated trend and selected residual components of the given missing intervals. The method was used to impute the data of the long-term missing interval of about 1 month, such as temperature and water temperature of the Ulleungdo ocean buoy data. The imputed data showed differences depending on the monitoring parameters, but it was found that the variation pattern was appropriately reproduced. Although this method causes bias and variance errors due to trend and residual components estimation, it was found that the bias error of statistical measure estimation due to long-term missing is greatly reduced. The mean, and the 90% confidence intervals of the gap-filling model's RMS errors are 0.93 and 0.35~1.95, respectively.

  • Data were collected from 1996 through 2000 on Korean Native Goats by the National Livestock Research Institute of Korea were used to estimate genetic parameters for birth, 3 month, and 6 month body weights. Estimates were obtained with MTDFREML. Model included animal and maternal genetic and residual effects. The model included sex, birth year-season, and feeding type as fixed factors. Average body weights and standard deviation were 1.78${\pm}$0.32 at birth of age, 7.99${\pm}$2.66 at 3 month of age, and 12.08${\pm}$3.20 kg at 6 month of age, respectively. Average body measurements were 36.46cm for withers height, 38.06cm for body length, and 45.56cm for heart girth at 3 month of age, and were 40.27cm for withers height, 42.01cm for body length, and 51.07cm for heart girth at 6 month of age, respectively. Estimates of heritability were 0.66 for birth weight, 0.34 for 3 month body weight, and 0.27 for 6 month body weight, respectively. Maternal effects would be important for birth and 3 month body weights and may not be needed in a model for 6 month body weight.

  • The changes in volatiles of the model system were analyzed by GC and GC-MS before and after retorting. The GC data were analyzed statistically by applying the analysis of variance, and 42 peaks were selected at 5% significance level. Multivariate statistical analysis was performed with these 42 peaks as independent variables. Through the stepwise discriminant analysis, 8 peaks, which corresponded to the compounds such as 2-heptanone, cis-3-hexenal, 2-pentyl-furan, 1-methyl-trans-1,2-cyclohexanediol, 2-hexanone, 3-octanone, trans, trans-nona-2,4-dienal and 1-octen-3-ol, were obtained in sequence to distinguish the samples with and without retorting. The principal component analysis of a set of 8 independent variables resulted in 3 principal components which accounted for 96.1% of the variance, while the first principal component (PC 1) explained 76.5% of the total variance. In addition, through the factor analysis of the principal components, the peaks 11, 20 and 21 could be grouped togather in accordance with the direction and the size while the peaks 9, 33 and 39 constituted the second group in the direction.

  • Data were taken from the dairy herd improve- ment program from the year 2000, composed of 10,929 first lactation cows consisting of 290,144 test-day records and 37,723 udder type records. The objective of the study was to estimate genetic and phenotypic correlation between fore udder attachment, rear udder height, rear udder width, udder cleft, udder depth, and somatic cell score (SCS) and to calculate heritability of udder depth, front teat length and SCS in Holstein cattle in Korea. The variance component estima- tion using test day model was determined by a derivative-free algorithm-restricted maximum likeli- hood(DF-REML) analysis method. Generally phenotypic correlations were very low between udder traits and lactation SCS which varied from -0.03 to -0.06. Heritability of all type traits and SCS was smaller than 0.12. The results of this study would be applicable to SCS using linear genetic evaluation for future studies.

  • Statement of problems: Stress analysis on implant components of the combined screw- and cement-retained implant prosthesis has not investigated yet. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the load distribution characteristics of implant prostheses with the different prosthodontic retention types, such as cement-type, screw-type and combined type by using 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Material and methods: A 3-dimensional finite element model was created in which two SS II implants (Osstem Co. Ltd.) were placed in the areas of the first premolar and the first molar in the mandible, and three-unit fixed partial dentures with four different retention types were fabricated on the two SS II implants. Model 1 was a cement-retained implant restoration made on two cement-retained type abutments (Comocta abutment; Osstem Co. Ltd.), and Model 2 was a screw-retained implant restoration made on the screw-retained type abutments (Octa abutment; Osstem Co. Ltd.). Model 3 was a combined type implant restoration made on the cement-retained type abutment (Comocta abutment) for the first molar and the screw-retained type abutment (Octa abutment) for the first premolar. Lastly, Model 4 was a combined type implant restoration made on the screw-retained type abutment (Octa abutment) for the first molar and the cement-retained type abutment (Comocta abutment) for the first premolar. Average masticatory force was applied on the central fossa in a vertical direction, and on the buccal cusp in a vertical and oblique direction for each model. Von-Mises stress patterns on alveolar bone, implant body, abutment, abutment screw, and prosthetic screw around implant prostheses were evaluated through 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Results: Model 2 showed the lowest von Mises stress. In all models, the von Mises stress distribution of cortical bone, cancellous bone and implant body showed the similar pattern. Regardless of loading conditions and type of abutment system, the stress of bone was concentrated on the cortical bone. The von-Mises stress on abutment, abutment screw, and prosthetic screw showed the lower values for the screw-retained type abutment than for the cement-retained type abutment regardless of the model type. There was little reciprocal effect of the abutment system between the molar and the premolar position. For all models, buccal cusp oblique loading caused the largest stress, followed by buccal cusp vertical loading and center vertical loading. Conclusion: Within the limitation of the FEA study, the combined type implant prosthesis did not demonstrate more stress around implant components than the cement type implant prosthesis. Under the assumption of ideal passive fit, the screw-type implant prosthesis showed the east stress around implant components.

  • This paper investigate to construct a new strategic trading model which contains the broker and overconfident informed trader. Assuming more favorable situation for the broker, this paper construct a two period model. At period I overconfident informed trader and liquidity traders participate to trade. At this time the broker does not execute transaction of his own account. he only transfer customer's order by commission. At period 2, the broker identifies informed trade of previous period and he execute the trade of his own account with liquidity traders. The effects of overconfidence to the expected transaction volume and expected transaction profit, and price variability are summarized as follows: (i) As the degree of overconfidence increases, the expected transaction volume of informed trader increases. Under the restriction of moderate degree of overconfidence, it also increases the expected transaction volume of broker. In sum, overconfidence behavior of informed trader increases the expected transaction volume. (ii) As the degree of overconfidence increases, the both expected profit of informed trader and broker decrease. (iii) As the degree of overconfidence increases, unconditional variances of price for each periods increase. And as the degree of overconfidence increases, the informativeness of prices for each period increase. Finally, some limitations of this paper and direction for further research were suggested.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the genetic characteristics of body weight by growth periods for Hanwoo. A total of 1,736 records were used for body weight. The data for body weights were collected from 1990 to 2000 in Daekwanryong branch, National Livestock Research Institute(NLRI). Estimates of (co)variance components were obtained by derivative-free Restricted Maximum Likelihood (DF-REML). The results are summarized as follows; The means for the weights were 25.60, 79.31, 98.91, 145.40, 283.26, 392.32, 545.65kg at birth, 3, 4, 6, 12, 18, 24month postpartum, respectively. The effects of calving year-season were significant for the milk yield of cow. Heritability estimates of direct genetic effects for birth weight were 0.54(all), 0.52(female), 0.36(male) in modelⅠ, 0.45(all), 0.41(female), 0.24(male) in modelⅡ, and heritabilities estimates of direct genetic effects for 4 month(weaning) weight were 0.47(all), 0.33(female), 0.28(male) in modelⅠ, 0.38(all), 0.21(female), 0.21(male) in modelⅡ. Heritability estimates for male and female data differed from those for combined data. The estimates became smaller for the body weights at 12 month or later(0.13~0.05). The heritabilities of average daily gain were smaller than those for body weights, but showed that the similar pattern to body weights.
