Study of Scene change Detection and Adaptive Rate Control Schemes for MPEG Video Encoder (MPEG 비디오 인코더를 위한 장면전환 검출 및 적응적 율 제어 방식 연구)

  • A sell-designed rate control strategy can improve overall picture quality for video transmission over a constant bit rate channel and the rate control method is not a normative part of MPEG-video standard, the performance of MPEG video codec can be quite different depends on how to implement the rate control scheme. The rate control scheme proposed in MPEG show good results when scene changes is not occurred. But it has weakness that it does not properly handle scene-changed pictures. Therefore picture quality after scene change is deteriorated, and possibility of overflow occurrence becomes high. In this paper, a new method for detection of scene change occurrence using local variance and a new determination scheme for adaptive quantization parameter, mqunt, which can consider local characteristic of an image by using previously computed the local variance from the scene change detection part are proposed. IN addition, and adaptive rate control scheme which can handles scene changed picture very efficiently by scene-changed picture is proposed. Computer simulations are performed to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm. The suggested detection algorithm precisely detected scene change. And the proposed rate control scheme shows better rate control performance as compared with that of the conventional MPEG scheme.

  • In this paper, we investigate the performance limitations of SubCarrier Multiplexed(SCM) WDM systems using optical Double-Side Band(DSB) modulated 16 QAM signals. The Bit-Error Rate(BER) performance is evaluated under various optical transmission links including the effects of the dispersion and fiber nonlinearities such as SPM(Self-Phase Modulation) and XPM(cross-phase modulation). After simulation of SCM-WDM systems, the dominant factors determining the entire system performance are appeared to be the nonlinearity of MZ(Mach-Zehnder) modulator and the SCM channel spacing. The BER performance of subcarrier channels in the higher frequencies was degraded with the large dispersion effect only, however, the performance was improved a little with a combined effect of fiber dispersion and nonlinear effect when the hish fiber launching power was applied.

Distributed Transmit Power Control for Optimal End-to-End Throughput in Wireless Multihop Networks (무선 멀티홉 네트워크에서 종단간 최적 전송률을 위한 분산 송신전력제어)

  • In this paper, we propose a distributed transmit power control algorithm for optimal end-to-end throughput in wireless multihop networks. Considering a solidarity property of link rates consisting of a multihop link and the fact that the multihop end-to-end throughput is determined by the minimum link rate, the proposed scheme controls the transmit power to make all link rates be equal and so maximizes the end-to-end throughput of multihop link. In addition, in the proposed scheme the transmit node calculates its transmit power autonomously in a distributed manner just through the information sharing with its neighbor nodes and so decreases the information sharing overhead. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves significant improvements in terms of end-to-end throughput and power consumption compared with the conventional maximum equal power allocation scheme.

  • A datawarehouse is generally used in organizations for decision and policy making. And In a distribute environment when a new system is added, there needs considerable amount of time and cost due to the difference between the systems. Therefore, to solve this matter. Firstly, heterogeneous data structures can be handled by creating abstract queries according to the standard schema and by separating the queries using XMDR. Secondly, metadata dictionary which defines synonyms of metadata and methods for data expression is used to overcome difference of definition and expression of data. Especially, work presented in this thesis provides standardized information for data integration and minimizing the effects of integration on local systems in discrete environments using XMDR to create information of data warehouse in realtime.

Multi-hop Packet Relay MAC Protocol Considering Channel Conditions in UWB-based WPANs (UWB 기반의 WPAN에서 채널 상태를 고려한 다중 홉 중계 방식의 MAC 프로토콜)

  • Ultra wide band (UWB) technology will be applied in the high rare wireless personal area networks (WPANs) for its high rate, low power, and innate immunity to multipath fading. In this paper, a power aware multi-hop packet relay MAC protocol in UWB based WPANs is proposed and a power aware path status factor (PAPSF), which is derived from SINR and power resource condition of each device, is used to select a suitable relay node. Compared with relaying by piconet coordinator (PNC), which is easily chosen by other ad hoc routing protocol, the new scheme can achieve hi임or throughput, decrease the time required for transmitting high power signal and we can easily distribute the battery power consumption from PNC to other devices in the piconet to prevent the PNC device using up its battery too fast and finally avoid PNC handover too frequently.

  • DVC (Distributed Video Coding) allows us to explore the video statistics at the decoder side, resulting in a less complex encoder and more complex decoder. In this approach, it is important to generate a good prediction to the current Wyner-Ziv frame, called side information, which plays a crucial role in the overall performance of a DVC system. Conventional MCFI (motion compensated frame interpolation) techniques, which explore temporal correlations between neighbor frames of the current frame, preform the block-based or object-based motion estimation, but, they do not include the basis frame for the Wyner-Ziv frame. This paper proposes an efficient way to get better side information, by finding the average frame between neighbor frames and by comparing adaptively the candidate blocks. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed method can improve the performance up to 0.4dB and provide better subjective and objective visual qualities in Wyner-Ziv CODEC.

A Study on the Selection of Pricing Factors for Used Bulk Carriers (중고 벌크선의 가격결정요인 선정에 관한 연구)

  • In the existing ship sales market, prices determined based on the prices of similar ship types that recently traded. ince the 2008 financial crisis, ship prices have fluctuated, and ship price criteria have become ever more necessary to the imminent value of the ship. Therefore, this research used the hedonic price model to estimate imminent values of ships. In this study, the influence on ship prices was analyzed by the value of each characteristic and an estimated functional formula was. Out of the four models suggested by the hedonic price model, an optimal model was selected with variance inflation factors and a stepwise selection. For this, the influence of determinants of ship prices was analyzed based on actually traded ships and characteristic data. The selected model s the Log-Line model; as a result of regression analysis, eight variables, including DWT, Age, Market Value, Short-Term Charter, Long-Term Charter, Enbloc, Special Survey Due and Builder were to affect the ship price model. This model is expected to be useful for objective and balanced ship price evaluation.

Optimal Sensor Location in Water Distribution Network using XGBoost Model (XGBoost 기반 상수도관망 센서 위치 최적화)

  • 상수도관망은 사용자에게 고품질의 물을 안정적으로 공급하는 것을 목적으로 하며, 이를 평가하기 위한 지표 중 하나로 압력을 활용한다. 최근 스마트 센서의 설치가 확장됨에 따라 기계학습기법을 이용한 실시간 데이터 기반의 분석이 활발하다. 따라서 어디에서 데이터를 수집하느냐에 대한 센서 위치 결정이 중요하다. 본 연구는 eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost) 모델을 활용하여 대규모 상수도관망 내 센서 위치를 최적화하는 방법론을 제안한다. XGBoost 모델은 여러 의사결정 나무(decision tree)를 활용하는 앙상블(ensemble) 모델이며, 오차에 따른 가중치를 부여하여 성능을 향상시키는 부스팅(boosting) 방식을 이용한다. 이는 분산 및 병렬 처리가 가능해 메모리리소스를 최적으로 사용하고, 학습 속도가 빠르며 결측치에 대한 전처리 과정을 모델 내에 포함하고 있다는 장점이 있다. 모델 구현을 위한 독립 변수 결정을 위해 압력 데이터의 변동성 및 평균압력 값을 고려하여 상수도관망을 대표하는 중요 절점(critical node)를 선정한다. 중요 절점의 압력 값을 예측하는 XGBoost 모델을 구축하고 모델의 성능과 요인 중요도(feature importance) 값을 고려하여 센서의 최적 위치를 선정한다. 이러한 방법론을 기반으로 상수도관망의 특성에 따른 경향성을 파악하기 위해 다양한 형태(예를 들어, 망형, 가지형)와 구성 절점의 수를 변화시키며 결과를 분석한다. 본 연구에서 구축한 XGBoost 모델은 추가적인 전처리 과정을 최소화하며 대규모 관망에 간편하게 사용할 수 있어 추후 다양한 입출력 데이터의 조합을 통해 센서 위치 외에도 상수도관망에서의 성능 최적화에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

A QoS-based Inter-Domain Routing Scheme for Distributed Multimedia Applications in a High Wide Area Network (분산 멀티미디어 응용을 위한 대규모 고속 통신망에서의 QoS-근거 계층적 도메인간 라우팅 방식)

  • In this paper a scalable QoS-based hierarchical inter-domain routing scheme for distributed multimedia applications in a high speed wide area network. The problem of QoS-based routing is formulated as a multicriteria shortest path problem, known as NP-complete[21,30]. Our routing scheme consists of two phases. In Phase 1, two graph construction algorithms are performed to model the network under consideration as a graph. The graph contains a part of the network topology which is completely neglected or partially considered by existing routing schemes, thus maintaining more accurate topology information. In Phase 2, a heuristic call-by-call algorithm is performed for selecting a feasible path efficiently in depth first search-like manner on the graph and tailoring to each application's QoS requirements, beginning at a vertex that represents the source node. In this paper, a simple rule is also produced, by which the visiting order of outgoing edges at each vertex on the graph is determined. The rule is based on each edge's the minimum normalized slackness to the QoS requested. The proposed routing scheme extends the PNNI-type hierarchical routing framework. Note that our routing scheme is one of a few QoS-based hierarchical routing schemes that address explicitly the issue of selecting a path with multiple metrics.

Decision Rule using Confidence Based Anti-phone Model and Interrupt-Polling Method for Distributed Speech Recognition DSP Networking System (분산형 음성인식 DSP 네트워킹 시스템을 위한 반음소 모델기반의 신뢰도를 사용한 결정규칙과 인터럽트-폴링)

  • Far-talking recognition and distributed speech recognition networking techniques are essential to control various and complex home services conveniently with voices. It is possible to control devices everywhere at home by using only voices. In this paper, we have developed the server-client DSP module for distributed speech recognition network system and proposed a new decision rule to decide intelligently whether to accept the recognition results or not by the transferred confidence rate. Simulation results show that the proposed decision rule delivers better performances than the conventional decision by majority rule or decision by first-arrival. Also, we have proposed the new interrupt-polling technique to remedy the defect of existing delay technique which always has to wait several clients' results for a few seconds. The proposed technique queries all client's status after first-arrival and decides whether to wait or not. It can remove unnecessary delay-time without any performance degradation.
