Fast Pyrolysis Characteristics of Jatropha Curcas L. Seed Cake with Respect to Cone Angle of Spouted Bed Reactor (분사층 반응기의 원뿔각에 따른 Jatropha Curcas L. Seed Cake의 급속열분해 특성)

  • Several types of reactors have been used during the past decade to perform fast pyrolysis of biomass. Among the developed fast pyrolysis reactors, fluidized bed reactors have been widely used in the fast pyrolysis process. In recent years, experimental studies have been conducted on the characteristics of biomass fast pyrolysis in a spouted bed reactor. The fluidization characteristics of a spouted bed reactor are influenced by particle properties, fluid jet velocity, and the structure of the core and annulus. The geometry of the spouted bed reactor is the main factor determining the structure of the core and annulus. Accordingly, to optimize the design of a spouted bed reactor, it is necessary to study the pyrolysis characteristics of biomass. However, no detailed investigations have been made of the fast pyrolysis characteristics of biomass in accordance with the geometry of the spouted bed reactor. In this study, fast pyrolysis experiments using Jatropha curcas L. seed shell cake were conducted in a conical spouted bed reactor to study the effects of reaction temperature and reactor cone angle on the product yield and pyrolysis oil quality. The highest energy yield of pyrolysis oil obtained was 63.9% with a reaction temperature of $450^{\circ}C$ and reactor cone angle of $44^{\circ}$. The results showed that the reaction temperature and reactor cone angle affected the quality of the pyrolysis oil.

  • 본 연구는 터보 과급기 부착 디젤 기관의 급가속 운전시 기관과 과급기의 과도 응답 성능을 규명하고 이를 개선하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. 과도 응답 성능 구명은 일정한 회전 속도로 정상 운전중인 기관의 연료 펌프 랙을 10%에서 40%까지 일정 시간동안 급가속하였을 경우에 대하여 수행하였으며, 이때의 과급기 응답 지연 현상을 개선하기 위한 실험은 급가속과 동시에 압축기 출구의 흡기메니폴드 내에 일정한 압력의 공기를 추가 분사하는 방법을 이용하였다. 그리고 공기 분사 압력, 공기분사 기간, 가속률, 가속 시간 등이 압축기 출구의 압력과 온도, 터빈 입구의 압력과 온도, 실린더 압력, 기관과 과급기 회전 속도 등의 응답 성능에 미치는 영향을 가속전 정상 상태의 기관 회전 속도와 적용부하의 변화에 따라 시간의 함수로 나타내었다.

  • Characteristics of two favorite injection tools for gasoline direct injection application were compared. An air-assisted fuel injector (AAFI) and a high-pressure swirl injector (HPSI) were designed and fabricated for prototype development, and the characterization strategies and processes for both injection tool have been arranged in parallel. Characterization works were carried out mainly through measurements, and in some cases, computational fluid dynamic analysis was utilized. In this paper, overall characteristics defined as flow rate, spray pattern, penetration, internal spray structure and drop size distribution, was discussed. The AAFI was found to be advantageous in flexibility of fuel flow rate, and the HPSI in stability and precision. Spray shape factor was introduced to describe the development of intermittent sprays from both injectors. Axial penetration appeared to be almost linear in the case of the AAFI while its speed continuously decreased with time in the HPSI.

  • As a second part of the comparison study, microscopic features of an air-assisted fuel injector(AAFI) and a high-pressure swirl injector (HPSI) were characterized. They consist of the internal spray structure in terms of fuel mass and drop diameter, the overall atomization performance with respect to operating parameters and the drop size distribution. Large droplets are concentrated in around the head part of a spray field of the HPSI, while in the case of the AAFI, they were distributed in the tail part. Although the AAFI showed the better atomization performance, the feasible ranges of operating parameters such as injection and ambient pressure were found to be wider in the HPSI. Drop size distribution of the AAFI sprays was more dispersed than that of the HPSI. Drop size distribution of the AAFI sprays was more dispersed than that of the HPSI. However, at the well-atomized condition, it appeared to be very uniform.

  • This study presents relations between the time lag and interaction index of the impinging-jet injectors using the time lag model in a model chamber. The response of the flame is analyzed to artificial perturbation with 5% amplitude of oxidizer speed at a resonance frequency. At the mixing point of fuel and oxidizer, which determines the characteristic length, the relationship between velocity perturbation and heat release rate is quantified by combustion parameters of interaction index and time lag. In this method, time lag or delay is calculated by the characteristic length and the average velocity obtained from numerical results. The tendency that the time delay decreases with axial jet velocity has been observed.

  • This work shows the result of numerical simulation on a reacting flow by varying atomization properties which can be obtained from a injector for a small and low power aircraft gas turbine engine. Because the atomization properties mainly affect on the performance of the engine, a lot of efficiency tests are needed when a new injector is developed. Nowadays researches has been actively performed using computational analysis. Using commercial package CFD-ACE+, basic studies on the reacting flow field have been conducted. Those results show that the reaction rate is increased when higher pressure and wider angle spray condition are used. More smaller parcels can also enhance the fuel-air reaction.

  • The results of combustion performance test of fuel-rich gas generator with dual swirl injectors are described. By changing simulating duct and recess number(RN) of the injectors, we inspected whether the combustion instability took place. When the injectors of RN = 0.5 were used, combustion instabilities could be reduced using the simulating duct. However, the effect of the simulating duct on the gas generator with the injectors of RN = 1.5 was not significant.

  • Combustion performance characteristics of subscale high-pressure combustor were investigated at 70 bar combustion pressure. All tests were successfully performed without any damage on the combustor. The mixing characteristics and distribution pattern of the injectors were found to have considerable influence on the combustion performance. The characteristic velocity of the combustor was higher in the injector with internal mixing than that of external mixing and in the injector with smaller mass flowrate. The pressure fluctuations at the propellant manifolds and the combustion chamber were measured to be less than 3% of the mean combustion pressure to meet the combustion stability criterion and to prove stable combustion characteristics of the combustor.

  • 슬러리 기포탑 반응기는 열 및 물질 전달의 용이성, 낮은 운전비용 및 장치의 간단성의 장점을 가지고 있어서 Fischer-Tropsch 반응, bio-reaction 등에 많이 응용되고 있다. 그러나 기포탑 반응기 내의 물질 거동은 매우 복잡하기 때문에 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있음에도 불구하고 그 현상에 대한 명확한 이해는 어려운 상황이다. 특히 기포탑반응기내에 기체의 포집율(gas hold-up)을 증가시키는 것을 목적으로 하는 연구들이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기체의 분사 방향에 따른 기체 포집율의 변화를 관찰하였다. 기체 분사는 0.6 mm의 pore가 66개로 구성된 perforated plate를 통해서 이루어졌고, 수직방향, 수평방향, 45도 그리고 수직/수평 조합의 네 가지 분사방향에 대해서 실험을 수행하였다. 반응기는 내경이 0.15 m이고 높이 2.0 m 아크릴 반응기를 이용하였다. 사용된 연속상은 수돗물을 사용하였고 분산상 기체로는 압축 공기를 이용하였다. 전체적인 기체 포집율은 수직방향의 분사방향에서 가장 높게 측정되었다. 그리고 수직/수평의 조합 분사방향의 경우, 기체 포집율이 가장 낮게 관찰되었다. 이것은 분사방향이 수직/수평으로 서로 엇갈릴 경우, 기포간의 충돌 가능성이 높아지고 bubble coalescence가 증가하였기 때문인 것으로 보인다. 실제로 homogeneous flow regime에서 heterogeneous flow regime으로 전환되는 기체선속도는 분사방향이 수직, 45도, 수평, 수직/수평 조합의 순서로 감소하였다. 즉 이 순서로 기체흐름의 와류가 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 Dynamic Gas Disengagement(DGD) 분석을 통하여 큰 기포가 발생하기 시작하는 기체 선속도의 변화를 관찰하였다. 이 경우, 예상되듯이 수직/수평 조합에서는 1.5 cm/sec 기체 선속도에서 큰 기포가 발생하기 시작한 반면 수직 방향 분사의 경우에는 2.5 cm/sec의 보다 높은 기체 선속도에서 관찰되기 시작하였다. 이러한 현상들을 종합하였을 때, 기체 분사방향을 수직으로 일정하게 했을 때, 기포간 출동을 최소화하고 와류발생을 최대한 지연시키며 전체 기체 포집율을 증가시킬 수 있음을 알 수 있다.

A Numerical Study on Acoustic Damping Induced by Gap between Baffled Injectors in a Model Rocket Combustor (모형 로켓 연소실에서 배플형 분사기의 간극에 의한 음향 감쇠 효과에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • Acoustic damping induced by gap width between baffled injectors is investigated numerically, which are installed to suppress pressure oscillations in a model rocket combustor. The previous work reported that the baffled injectors show larger acoustic damping with the gap width between injectors. It is simulated numerically and its mechanism is examined. Damping factors are calculated as a function of gap width and it is found that the optimum gap is 0.1 mm or so. For understanding of the improved damping induced by the gap, dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy and vorticity are calculated as a function of the gap. Both parameters have their maximum values at the specific gap and especially, the dissipation rate has the same profile as that of damping factor. It verifies that the improved damping made by the gap is attributed to the increased acoustic-energy dissipation.
