Chemical Homogeneity and Dispersoid Formation in Mechanically Alloyed Al-Ti Composite Metal Powders (기계적 합금화한 Al-Ti 복합금속분말의 화학적 균질성과 분산상 형성)

  • Chemical homogeneity and dispersoid formation in mechanically alloyed Al-Ti composite metal powders were investigated in order to fabricate the high temperature Al-Ti alloys. The homogeneity of composite particles was able to be obtained by MA milling time more than 10 hours with the milling velocity of 400 rpm. The amounts of titanium, carbon and oxygen elements in MA Al-Ti alloys by chemical analysis were 8.2, 1.135 and 0.233 wt.%, respectively. The amount of carbon analyzed corresponds to 90 pet. of carbon contained the PCA of stearic acid. TEM analysis has revealed the presence of the rounded $Al_3Ti$ dispersoids with the size of 250nm and the $Al_4C_3$ dispersoids of cylindrical shape with a size of 50nm in thickness and 150nm in length. Also, the some rounded $Al_2O_3$ dispersoids with a size of about 20nm were found in grain boundaries as well as in matrix.

  • Samples with the nominal composition, B $i_{1.84}$P $b_{0.34}$S $r_{1.91}$C $a_{2.03}$C $u_{3.06}$ $O_{10+}$$\delta$/ (110 K phase) high $T_{C}$ superconductors containing MgO as an additive were fabricated by a solid-state reaction method. Samples with 5~50 wt% MgO were sintered at 820~86$0^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. The structural characteristics, critical temperature and grain size of the samples with different MgO contents were analyzed by XRD and SEM. As the MgO content increased, the intensity of MgO peaks and ratio of Bi-2212 phase in superconductors were intensified and the proportion of the phase transition from Bi-2223 to Bi-2212 was increased.d.creased.d.

  • The global demand for raw lithium materials is rapidly increasing, accompanied by the demand for lithiumion batteries for next-generation mobility. The batch-type method, which selectively separates and concentrates lithium from seawater rich in reserves, could be an alternative to mining, which is limited owing to low extraction rates. Therefore, research on selectively separating and concentrating lithium using an electrodialysis technique, which is reported to have a recovery rate 100 times faster than the conventional methods, is actively being conducted. In this study, a lithium ion selective membrane is prepared using lithium lanthanum titanate, an oxide-based solid electrolyte material, to extract lithium from seawater, and a large-area membrane manufacturing process is conducted to extract a large amount of lithium per unit time. Through the developed manufacturing process, a large-area membrane with a diameter of approximately 20 mm and relative density of 96% or more is manufactured. The lithium extraction behavior from seawater is predicted by measuring the ionic conductivity of the membrane through electrochemical analysis.

  • Powder metallurgy processes are used to form Net-Shape products and have been widely used in the production of automobile parts to improve its manufacture productivity. Powder-forging technology is being developed rapidly because of its economic merits and because of the possibility of reducing the weight of automobile parts by replacing steel parts with aluminum ones, in particular while manufacturing automotive parts. In the powder-forging process, the products manufactured by powder metallurgy are forged in order to remove any pores inside them. Powderforging technology can help expand the applications of powder metallurgy; this is possible because powder-forging technology enables the minimization of flashes, reduction of the number of stages, and possible grain refinement. At present, powder forging is widely used for manufacturing primary mechanical parts as in combination with the technology of powder forging of aluminum alloy pistons.

Synthesis and bioactivity evaluation of metal ion-substitution biphasic calcium phosphate for bone defect reconstruction (골결손부 재건을 위한 금속 이온 치환 이상인산칼슘 합성 및 생체 활성 평가)

  • The co-precipitation technique has been applied to synthesize Biphasic Calcium Phosphate (BCP), Mg-BCP and Si-BCP. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used to characterize the structure of synthesized BCP, Mg-BCP and Si-BCP powders. The results have shown that BCP and substitution of magnesium and silicon in the calcium deficient apatites revealed the formation of biphasic mixtures of Hydroxyapatite (HAp)/${\beta}$-Tricalcium phosphate (${\beta}$-TCP) ratios after heating at $1000^{\circ}C$. Ionic substituted BCP is able to develop a new apatite phase on the surface in contact with physiological fluids faster than BCP does. An MTT assay indicated that BCP, Mg-BCP, and Si-BCP powders had no cytotoxic effects on MG-63 cells, and that they have good biocompatibility.

  • A Study on the cementation for the recovery of Cu, Ni and Co with Mn metallic powders in leaching solution from the manganese nodule that have removed Fe ions was studied. The results showed that the recovery efficiencies of metal ions with Mn powders increased when the temperature, pH and the concentration of chloride ions were increased in mixed solution. And the recovery efficiencies of Cu was 98% and not changed with the addition amounts of Mn powders but, in case of Co and Ni, the recovery efficiencies were increased with the addition amounts. The particle size of precipitate was about $5\mu\textrm{m}$. From the results of experiment we proposed the two-step cementation process for the recovery of Cu, Ni and Co with Mn powders.
