The effects of Doula Touch delivery education on self-confidence delivery, knowledge of childbirth, couple satisfaction (듀라터치 분만 교육이 분만 자신감, 분만지식, 부부관계만족도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study determined the effectiveness of Doula Touch delivery education on self-confidence delivery, knowledge of childbirth and couple satisfaction. The experimental group(n=27) received the Doula Touch education at the public health center in the Y city of Gyeonggi Province from October of 2012 to November of 2012(four weeks). However, the control group(n=28) received the antenatal care at a D hospital in the W city of the same province from October of 2012 to November of 2012, but did not receive the Doula Touch education. The following are the results derived from the study. The experimental group significantly showed more self-confidence for delivery than the control group(t=-2.81, p=.007). Besides, the experimental group significantly showed more knowledge of childbirth than the control group(t=3.50, p=.001) but there was no significant difference in couple satisfaction between two groups (t=0.23, p=.8181). On the other hand, the study showed a high correlation between self-confidence of delivery and couple satisfaction(r=314, p=.005).

Impact of Pre-briefing using Structured Video in the Pre-hospital Trauma Care Simulation-based Education (시뮬레이션 기반 병원 전 외상 교육 과정에서 구조화된 동영상을 적용한 사전브리핑이 몰입감, 자신감, 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to examine the impacts of pre-briefing using structured video simulations in the pre-hospital trauma care simulation-based education on simulation immersion, simulation confidence, and simulation satisfaction. For both the experimental group and the control group, orientations were conducted on the simulation environment. Subsequently, the experimental group watched a video of about 8 minutes, similar to the scenario situation, in which the goal and result of the training were presented. The control group, on the other hand, conducted a classical way of orientation related to the scenario during the same time period. In addition, the experimental group and the control group underwent simulation practice in the same situation for 12 minutes, and debriefing was performed for 40 minutes by the same research assistant. Afterwards, we measured the simulation immersion, confidence, and satisfaction of the participants. Data were analyzed using χ2 and independent t-test using the SPSS 22.0 program. It was found that the experimental group that conducted the pre-briefing using video had higher immersion and confidence than the control group. On the other hand, satisfaction was not significantly different between the two groups. The results indicate that pre-briefing using structured video was an effective educational method to increase simulation immersion and simulation confidence.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of an experience-focused prenatal program on stress, anxiety, childbirth confidence, and maternal-fetal attachment for women in their first pregnancy. Methods: The participants were 57 pregnant women at 32 weeks or more of a first pregnancy who agreed to participate in this study. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, $x^2$ test, and Fisher's exact test using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The experimental group showed significant differences in stress, anxiety, childbirth confidence, and maternal-fetal attachment from the control group. Conclusion: The four-week experience-focused prenatal program can be used for women in their first pregnancy to reduce their stress and anxiety and to increase their childbirth confidence and maternal-fetal attachment.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the maternal health care program on pregnant women's depression, maternal role self-confidence and delivery self-efficacy in a public health center. Methods: This study used a non-equivalent control group quasi-experiment design attempted to verify the effectiveness of maternal health care program. In the experimental group (39 participants), maternal health care program was applied for 120 minutes for 8 weeks, and the control group (40 participants) was provided with a booklet for maternal health care. Data collection was conducted from September 20, 2015 to November 30, 2015. Data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2-test$, Fisher's exact test and t-test. Results: The maternal health care program showed a significant effect on maternal role self-confidence and delivery self-efficacy compared to control group. Conclusion: The maternal health care program conducted at the public health center was found to be effective in improving maternal role self-confidence and delivery self-efficacy. Further development of a program to mediate the depression of the expectant mothers is needed.

Do childbirth confidence, prenatal depression, childbirth knowledge, and spousal support influence childbirth fear in pregnant women? (임부의 분만 자신감, 산전 우울, 분만 지식과 배우자 지지는 분만 두려움에 영향을 미치는가?)

  • Purpose: This study investigated levels of childbirth fear and related prenatal factors (self-confidence for childbirth, prenatal depression, knowledge about childbirth, and spousal support) among pregnant women in South Korea. Methods: A correlational study design was used to explore levels of childbirth fear and related prenatal factors in 200 pregnant women over 28 weeks of gestation. A self-administered questionnaire was used to measure fear of childbirth and related factors, such as self-confidence for childbirth, prenatal depression, knowledge about childbirth, and spousal support. Results: One-third of the pregnant women were aged 35 years and older. Sixty-one percent of women were nulliparae, but only 26.0% had experienced prenatal education. The mean score for fear of childbirth was 66.99 out of 165. The prevalence of fear of childbirth was 72.0%, and childbirth fear was severe in 26.5% of the participants and moderate in 45.5%. Fear of childbirth was negatively related to self-confidence (r=-.45, p<.001), but positively related to prenatal depression (r=.21, p=.002). Two significant predictors were found to explain the fear of childbirth. Higher self-confidence for childbirth was associated with less severe fear of childbirth (β=-.44, p<.001), while higher prenatal depression was associated with more severe fear of childbirth (β=.13, p=.038). Conclusion: The level of fear of childbirth was higher among pregnant women with lower self-confidence and higher prenatal depression. Reasonable evidence should be provided for implementing prenatal and childbirth classes to reduce pregnant women's depression and to increase their confidence.

Effect of Prenatal Education Program of Labor and Delivery Experience (분만 체험 산전교육 프로그램 효과)

  • This study examined the effects of a prenatal education program of labor and delivery experience for primigravidas in mid-pregnancy. This investigation was designed as a one group pre-post quasi-experimental study, aiming to determine the effects of prenatal education on anxiety, confidence and knowledge in delivery by demonstrating knowledge and actual situations including understanding labor, breast-feeding, baby care and others, and experiencing the education program. Subjects were collected randomly from an on-line club in D city. The simulation education proceeded for 2 hours a week from April to June, 2014, and there were 6 sessions each in the first and second periods. We included 35 primigravidas who attended all 6 sessions. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis and a paired t-test. According to the study results, the subjects showed a significant difference in knowledge in delivery (t=-9.07, p<001), confidence in delivery (t=-9.00, p<001) and anxiety (t=14.39, p<001) after participating in the prenatal education program. An evaluation of satisfaction revealed experience to be the most differentiating factor, and the simulation experience was identified as most effective. The desired appropriate number of class sessions was 4 times, and 88.6% of the pregnant women intended to attend the program at their next birth, indicating a high response rate.

Effects of Maternal-Child Health Education Program for Nurses in Tigray, Ethiopia on Their Knowledge and Confidence (에티오피아 일개 지역 간호사를 위한 모자보건교육 프로그램이 간호사의 모자보건 지식과 수행자신감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of a maternal-child health education program for nurses in Tigray, Ethiopia. Methods: One-group pre-posttest design was used. The maternal-child health (MCH) education program was given to nurses from 5 health centers in Tigray, Ethiopia. Knowledge and confidence levels were measured before and after each education session. Data were analyzed using paired t-test. Results: The topics of the 5 educational sessions were family planning, antenatal care, care during labor, immunization, and integrated management of neonate, and child illness. Knowledge scores (1st: Z=3.931, p=.001; 2nd: Z=6.189, p <.001; 3rd: Z=5.658, p <.001, 4th: Z=8.734, p <.001, 5th: Z=14.167, p <.001) and confidence levels (1st: Z=8.467, p <.001; 2nd: Z=4.183, p <.001; 3rd: Z=4.992, p <.001) improved significantly. Conclusion: The findings of this study imply that the MCH education program for nurses was effective in developing the maternal-child health capacity of the nurses in Tigray, Ethiopia.

Development and application of Scenario-based Admission Management VR contents for nursing students

  • In this paper, I developed a scenario-based admission management virtual reality (SAM VR) content for practical training for nursing students and verified the effectiveness. The SAM VR contents used in the study was developed by the researcher using Gear VR and smartphone according to the standard practical procedure suggested by the Korea Acreditation Board of Nursing Education and Evaluation. In the 30 experimental groups who received practical training using SAM VR contents, learning flow, learning confidence, and learning satisfaction increased statistically significantly after the practical training (p<.001). In the control group, who received practical training in the traditional way, learning confidence increased after the practical training (p<.005), but there was no change in learning flow and learning satisfaction (p>.005). It was verified that the SAM VR contents are effective practical education contents for nursing students' learning flow, learning confidence and learning satisfaction.

Effects of Kangaroo Care on Physical Development and Adaptation of External Environment of Prematurity, and Maternal Role Confidence who Delivered Premature Infants (캥거루식 접촉이 미숙아 신체발달과 외부환경 적응 및 어머니의 역할수행 자신감에 미치는 효과)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of kangaroo care on physical development adaptation of external environment of prematurity, and maternal role confidence of those who delivered preterm infants. The subjects were 38 preterm infants and mothers with cesarean section delivery in the hospital, located at B city. Eighteen premature infants were assigned to the kangaroo care (KC) group or the control group (CG). Data were collected between June 2013 and June 2015. KC was given 3 times a day (60 min at a time) and performed a total of 10 times. The physical development indicator (weight, height, and head circumference) as well as the adaptation of external environment (temperature, heart rate, oxygenation) of preterm infants were checked before the start of the program. Following the initial measurement, the program was performed, and measurements were taken again at the end of the program. For measurement of maternal role confidence, structured self-reported questionnaires were performed. The results showed that the KC group had a lower oxygenation compared with the CG (t=2.27, p=.02); however, the physical development indicator (weight t=-0.83, p=.21, height t=-0.34, p=.37, head circumference t=1.29, p=.10) and maternal role confidence (t=-0.41, p=.34) were not significantly compared with the CG. The results of this study suggest that the practice of KC helps the adaptation of external environment of preterm infants

Factors Affecting the Satisfaction of Simulation Education about Emergency Delivery for Paramedic Students (응급구조학과 학생의 응급분만 시뮬레이션 교육 만족도 영향요인)

  • This study investigated the confidence, satisfaction, and psychological safety and identified factors affecting the satisfaction of 41 paramedic students. Data, which consists of pre and post-confidence items on visual analogue scale, 21 satisfaction items and 10 psychological safety items was analyzed using SPSS WIN 21.0 program. After the simulation education, the students were told to write what they felt about the education. Then the students' comments, which were categorized as effectiveness and difficulty, were analyzed. Satisfaction of general characteristics showed a significant difference in age (t = -2.22, p = 0.03) and psychological safety of general characteristics showed a significant difference in gender (t = 3.70, p = 0.00) and age (t = -3.65, p = 0.00). Pre-confidence is low (4.37); however, post-confidence increased to 6.22. It showed a significant difference in pre and post-confidence (t = -5.878, p = 0.000). Satisfaction was correlated with psychological safety (r = 0.516, p = 0.001). The variables affecting satisfaction were psychological safety (t = 3.021, p = 0.005) and post-confidence (t = 1.936, p = 0.061). These variables accounted for 27.6% of the satisfaction according to a regression analysis. The simulation education may be the new effective paramedic education strategy of emergency childbirth. Repetitive simulation learning with further development of various scenarios, more education time, and more faculties will be able to train field compatible paramedics.
