  • Library classification system is based upon academic disciplines, However, it is difficult to classify for Internet resources due to its lack of up-to-datedness and practicality. Especially, headings of Korean Decimal Classification need to reflect practical aspects and it should be also developed for classification of web based resources. The purposes of this study are to analyze the structures of directory classifications in Internet resources and to suggest additional headings of KDC as a practical library classification as well as a classification system for internet resources. Directory classification systems of Naver, Yahoo, Kyobo Internet book store, Amazon were selected and their food and culture subjects were analyzed for this study. The headings of KDC were compared to them and new possible headings were suggested with reference of NDC and DDC in the area of food and culture. This study provided a way of developing KDC for a classification system for Internet resources as well as library materials.

  • There is increasing importance of a system to reorganize explosive expansion of internet information resources efficiently; therefore, an increasing concern about classification system as an instrument for facilitating an access to a specific subject and improving efficiency in information retrieval. Comparing the hierarchical structure and access methodology of internet-based classification system with those of library classification such as Dewey Decimal Classification through their structural aspects and retrival process, this paper proposes the proper classification system in internet environment.

  • This study is aimed to grasp the organization of Internet information resources and to infer the characteristics of resource search engines so that criteria may be established to classify and evaluate Internet information resources. In addition, the author has compared and analyzed interior design classification systems of directory sites of each subject that provide classification system based on the Internet, foreign sites to be used to search for information, and domestic information-specialized sites in order to set up models of interior design classification systems of directories of each Web subject. The systems have been analyzed against such four measures as comprehensiveness of the subject scope, logicality of classification systems, preciseness of subject terms, and effectiveness of searches. Information of interior designs is mixed with that of related fields, and so its information search and classification are not organized systematically. The author has analyzed such a problem so as to present models of search engine classification systems for interior design information classification after considering both academic and practical aspects.

  • The industry information grows faster than any other information resources in the Internet age. Unfortunately, however, there is no consensus on the standard of the classification among the information providers of the industry fields. This may a problematic issue not only in building a continuous and systematic development of the industry information, but also in the use of the information among the users. This study aims to propose a well-structured and/or an efficient classification scheme for the industry information to help the users with easy to retrieve the Internet resources. To do this, we analyzed the subject classification scheme of the domestic industry information on the web sites, which is largely adopted the \"Korean Standard for the Industry Classification\". In addition, we suggested the principle of the subject classification and their hierarchial structure derived from the analysis of the knowledge and document classification scheme. As a result, it was suggested an optimized industry classification scheme based on the analysis of the validity test of classification item measured by the quantitative analysis of the industry information, which it currently accessible through the Internet. • This study tries to compare the classification systems of major internet portals and their sub-portals specialized for the children and of major online book stores. It compares and analyzes the major directories of them and suggests recommendations not only to improve their own systems but also to apply to the development for the classification systems for children's library. Some of them are: (1) The system should reflect information requests and use behaviors of the children netizen. (2) It should select the terms reflecting the children's viewpoints and expressions and suggest the guidelines by ages. (3) It should maintain the clear hierarchies and grouping for the accessability and convenience of the users. (4) It will be helpful to establish the categories to mix the subject- or concept-based categories and the activities and objects of the children. (5) It will also be helpful to establish the categories based on the curricula added by those creating the imagination and interest and to subdivide by subject.

  • Although the research information resources on Internet are spread out on thousands of computers, it is not always easy to get them on the right time by the right manner. The purpose of this study is to use DDC(Dewey Decimal Classification) scheme in subject-based directory search engine for research information resourcees to aid retrieval on the Internet. For the design of classification code, this study followed 'systematic order' of DDC to arrange subjects from the general o the specific in a logical order, and for the design of classification dictionary, 'Relative Index' of DDC was used to bring together the various aspects of subjects.
