Providing Quality-of-Service (QoS) guarantee requires for each router on the path of a traffic flow not to violate the flow's delay budget allocated to itself. Since the amount of load being offered to the router is determined by the budget, some imbalance in load among routers on the path may be alleviated by means of adjusting the budget. The equal allocation applied to the resource reservation protocol (RSVP) is simple to implement, but it has the drawback of a poor resource utilization. A load balancing method in which the delay budget being allocated to a router depends on its load state was developed to improve the drawback, but it's too complex to apply to the RSVP. This paper proposes an intra-path load balancing method not only applicable to the RSVP but also more effective in improving the drawback. The proposed method first partitions the end-to-end delay bound of a flow to routers by the RSVP and then let them adjust their budgets according to both the bottleneck state of the path and their links' bandwidth availabilities. The results of the simulation applying the proposed method to an evaluation network showed that the proposed method may provide the gain of 4 ${\sim}$ 17 % compared to that in the legacy one in terms of the number of maximally admittable flows.
Since most of the current route selection algorithms use the shortest path algorithm, network resources can not be efficiently used also traffics be concentrated on specific paths resulting in congestgion. In this paper we propose the statistical route selections(SRS) algorithm which adopts a statistical mechanism to utilize the network resource efficiently and to avoid congestion. The SRS algorithm handles requests on demand and chooses a path that meets the requested bandwidth. With the advent of the MPLS it becomes possible to establish an explicit LSP which can be used for traffic load balancing. The SRS algorithm finds a set of link utilizations for route selection, computes link weights using statistical mechanism and finds the shortest path from the weights. Our statistical mechanism computes the mean and the variance of link utilizations and selects a route such that it can reduce the variance and the number of congested links and increase the utilization of network resources. Throughout the simulation, we show that the SRS algorithm performs better than other route selection algorithms on several metrics like the number of connection setup failures and the number of congested links.

In this paper, we propose advanced parallel join algorithm to efficiently process join operation on hypercube systems. This algorithm uses a broadcasting method in processing relation R which is compatible with hypercube structure. Hence, we can present optimized parallel join algorithm for that hypercube structure. The proposed algorithm has a complete solution of two essential problems - load balancing problem and data skew problem - in parallelization of join operation. In order to solve these problems, we made good use of the characteristics of clustering effect in the algorithm. As a result of this, performance is improved on the whole system than existing algorithms. Moreover. new algorithm has an advantage that can implement non-equijoin operation easily which is difficult to be implemented in hash based algorithm. Finally, according to the cost model analysis. this algorithm showed better performance than existing parallel join algorithms.

The increasing of web users load to the excessive transmission traffic and system overload problems. To solve these problems, cluster systems are studied. In conventional cluster systems, when the request size is large owing to such types as multimedia and CGI, the particular server load and response time tend to increase even if the overall loads are distributed evenly. In this paper, we consider the methodology of efficient resource usage, specially distributed web cluster system. We develope an algorithm that distributes the load on the web cluster system to use the system resources, such as system memory equally. The response time is chosen as a performance measure on the various clustering models. And based on the concurrent user to the web cluster system, the response time is also examined as the number of users increases. Simulation experience with this algorithm shows that the response time and average throughput seems to have a good results compare to those with the other algorithm.

This paper considers the scheduling of cell-based handoffs to balance the traffic in a fiber-optic microcelluar system. In the system depending on the order of cell based handoff, periodical balancing of the traffic among microcells can be achieved. The cell based handoff problem is formulated as a dynamic programming and the computational complexity is analyzed. Since the scheduling problem requires real time solution, heuristic algorithms are proposed and the computational results are discussed.

In this paper, the load balancing which is one of the distribution power system's operation purposes was studied. Reconfiguration of Distribution power system presents that the configuration is changed by changing the switch on/off status which exists in the system according to the mentioned purpose. Through this method, the load of distribution power system is shown to be balanced. As a characteristic of complicated distribution power system, system is designed by being applied by OOP(Object Oriented Programming) method which connected more flexibly than existing Procedural Programming method, and the process of calculating the distflow and the loss of configurated system is shown. In addition, this paper suggests more efficient method compared by the results of reconfiguration on the purpose of the loss minimization and by the result of distribution power system reconfiguration on the purpose of load balancing. Moreover, it searches for the method to approach the global optimal solution more quickly.
In this paper, we introduce new methods for hiding computation overheads involved in load redistributing for parallel computer of hypercube, mesh and tree topologies. The basic idea is either coalescing some phases of load redistributing to overlap the transfer on different links or dividing each phase into steps to pipeline the transfer of load unit by unit for maximum utilization of links. They proved effective in making links busy transmitting load as soon as possible, hence reducing the computation overheads involved in balancing. Proposed techniques experimented on hypercube, mesh or tree topologies reduce communication overheads by 20% to 50% compared with known methods.

This paper proposes a scheme for distributed load balancing in mobile communication networks based on supervisory control framework. Using load information exchanged with neighboring cells, the "supervisors" that reside in the base stations distribute load among cells by controlling handover parameters in a distributed manner. The supervisors are designed so that the load difference among neighboring cells are kept under a pre-defined value. Results from systematic analysis and simulation indicate that our scheme effectively balances traffic load among cells and reduces call blocking rate of the overloaded cells.
