  • This paper presents a method analyzing the motion of cylindrical buoy moored at 2 points and tensions action on each mooring line under the action of periodic waves. It was found that submersible buoy was more effective than floating one in the severe conditions considering its dynamic motions, wave forces, and mooring line tensions. The wave induced its dynamic responses and mooring line tensions peak when the ratio d/${\lambda}$ of the buoy length d to the waves length ${\lambda}$ was 0.66 due to its natural frequency. The results of this study were in agreement with the existing measurement ones, however, further verifications are needed considering resonance of cylindrical buoy and its displacements to wave height by a series of model tests.

  • A numerical method for a 2-D oil boom model considering the flexibility of skirt has been developed The neater is assumed rigid and the skirt is tensioned membrane having a point mass at its end The fluid motion is potential. The kinematic condition which demands the continuity of the displacement is imposed at the joint between the floater and the skirt. The dynamic condition for the point mass is imposed at the bottom end of the skirt. The numerical method is based on the Green's function method in the frame of linear potential theory. It finds it's solution simultaneously from the total system of three equations, integral equation, the equation of motion of the floater and the equilibrium equation of the deformation of the skirt. Integral equation is derived by applying the Green's theorem to radiation potential and Green's function. Proper descretization of those three equations leads to the system of a linear algebraic equation. Due to the flexibility of skirt the motion of floater can be diminished in some range of wave frequency and furthermore the mechanism of resonance of the oil boom can be changed. The motion responses of various oil booms have been compared varying the length of the skirt and the point mass. The numerical method has been validated indirectly from the good correspondence between the motion responses of the flexible skirt model and the rigid skirt model in low frequency limit.

  • Sexually compatible heterothallic haploids and diploids therefrom of Saccharomycopsis lipolytica were compared with respect to production. Diploids constructed through mating were confirmed by random spore analysis, whereas those constructed through protoplast fusion were confirmed by haploidization. ATCC 44601 and IFO 1209 produced larger amount of citrate and isocitrate than IFO 1550 and IFO 1551. A mode of citrate production by diploids was intermediate of the parental haploid strains. The specific activities of citrate synthase and isocitrate lyase in IFO 1550 and IFO 1551 were higher than those in ATCC 44601 and IFO 1209, indicating little correlation between citrate production and specific activities of these enzymes.

  • A numerical procedure is described for predicting steady drift forces an multiple three-dimensional bodies of arbitrary shape freely floating in waves. The developed numerical approach is based on combination of a three-dimensional source distribution method, wave interaction theory art the far-field method using momentum theory. Numerical results are compared with the experimental or numerical ones, which are obtained in the literature, of steady drift forces on 33(3 by 11) floating composite vertical cylinders in waves. The results of comparison confirmed the validity of the proposed approach. Finally, the interaction effects are examined in the case of an array of 40(4 by 10) freely floating rectangular bodies in shallow water.

  • In this study, the present deployment of the multiple wave energy converters (WECs) in a floating wind-wave hybrid power generation platform was estimated considering the interaction effect among WEC buoys. The interaction processes of multiple buoys were very complex, since scattered and radiated waves from each buoy affected the others in the array. The interaction analysis of the diffraction and radiation problem by the array of WECs was applied by matched eigenfunction expansion method (MEEM). The analytical solutions were compared with the results of numerical calculation based on WAMIT. The overall performance of 24 WECs installed in the hybrid power generation platform was evaluated by the q-factor representing the interaction effect among buoys.

  • Two-dimensional flexible body analysis (hydroelasticity theory) is adopted to a very large floating structure that may be multimodule and extend in the longitudinal direction. The boundary-element method (BEM) and Green function method(GFM) are used to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients. The structure is considered to be a flexible beam responding to waves in the vertical direction and a consistent formulation for the hydrostatic stiffness is derived. The resulting coupled equations of motion are solved directly. Two designs of the module connectors are considered: a rotationally-flexible hinge connector, and a rotationally-rigid connector Numerical examples are presented to an integrated system of semi-submersibles. The analysis provides basic motions and section forces, which are useful to develop an understanding of the fundamental modes of displacement and force amplitudes for which multi-module VLFSs must be designed. The results show that while the hinge connectors result in greater motion, the rigid connectors increase substantially the sectional moments.
