A study on structural relationship of receptivity to multiculturalism, communication and marital conflict: focused on mixed couples of FFWP (다문화 수용성, 의사소통, 부부갈등의 구조적 관계에 관한 연구: 국제 결혼한 세계평화통일가정연합 신도를 대상으로)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of receptivity to multiculturalism on marriage conflict of international marriage couples and mediation effect of communication between two variables. Method: The subjects are 205 individuals of mixed couples who are living in S. Korea. The mediation analysis was based on structural equation modeling followed by bootstrapping with the use of AMOS 22.0. The demographic variables are also controlled in the data analysis. Goodness-of-fit test using RMR, GFI, IFI, TLI, and CFI was conducted. Results: The study results were as follows: first, receptivity to multiculturalism had a direct effect on marital conflict and communication; second, communication had a direct effect on marital conflict; third, communication had a mediation effect between receptivity to multiculturalism and marital conflict. Conclusions: We could verify in this study that receptivity to multiculturalism and communication is the important factor for marital conflicts of mixed couples. More specifically, communication has a critical role for marriage life of mixed couples.

A Study on the Research Trends and Tasks in the Development of the Education Programs for the Elderly (노년기 교육프로그램 개발의 현황과 과제)

  • Korean society with low fertility rate and high aging rate crisis has been tried very hard to find out alternatives to solve these social problems. These efforts resulted in increasing the development of education programs for the elderly. The education for the elderly have been development in various different academic fields. Therefore, this is the time to establish database for education programs which developed so far. The purpose of this study is to examine research trend in the field of education programs for the elderly in Korea. For this purpose, 62 education programs for the elderly which developed so far were analyzed. The results of this study were as followed. The topics of education programs for the elderly were divided into the following : a marriage enrichment programs for the elderly married couples, leisure programs, death education programs, health education programs, economic education programs, education programs for grandparents raising their grandchildren, etc. Based on the results of this analysis, the tasks of future research about education programs for the elderly were presented.

A Study on the Development of "Premarital Education Programs" for Marriage Expectant Couple (예비부부를 위한 "결혼준비교육프로그램"의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study proposes to implement premarital education programs designed to enhance potential capacity in marital life, targeted at marriage expectant couple and verify the effectiveness of the programs. For this study, 8 marriage expectant couples residing in Seoul participated. For this study, advance and follow-up surveys were conducted. To be specific, the advanced surveys questions were posed regarding general features, the level of communication, conflict-resolution skills and the attitude toward the role of the gender and so forth of those persons polled. In follow-up surveys, questions were asked regarding the extent to which the participant was satisfied with the contents of the education and teaching process in each session of the programs, the attitude toward the role of the gender, the level of communication and conflict-resolution skills. The effectiveness of the program was verified based on the subjective level of satisfaction of the instructor and the program manager and the statistical analyses of advance and follow-up surveys. Our findings show: First, the changes in 'the attitude toward the role of the gender' of the participants after 'the education of the role of the gender' were not significantly related. Second, after 'the education of communication' was implemented, the capability of the participants to communicate proved to have improved. Third, the extent to which the participants were satisfied with the contents of the education scored higher than the average, the level of educational satisfaction with 'the skills of communication between the husband and wife' scoring the highest. Fourth, with respect to the level of overall satisfaction with the educational effects of the program, the level of satisfaction with improved relationship between each party of the couple turned out relatively high, and the level of the overall education program also proved to be high.

A Convergence Study about Married Couples' Attitude toward Family-Birth according to the Spouse's Participation Range of Family-Birth (배우자의 가족분만 참여범위에 따른 부부의 가족분만에 대한 태도에 관한 융합연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess married couples' attitude toward family-birth according to the range of spouse's participation in family-birth. Method: Data were obtained by the 54 couples who used to visited in order to participate on family-birth at two teritary women's hospital in G-city. Result: There was a significant difference in pregnant woman's attitude : the status of having a job(Z=-2.01, p=.044) & type of nuclear family(Z=-2.17, p=.029), planned pregnance(Z=-2.54, p=.011). The spouse who partly participated in the process of family-birth showed higher(t=2.30, p=.030) compared to the spouse who participated in the whole process of family-birth. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that hospitals and women's hospitals should support pregnant woman's social work and encourage spouse who partly participation and develop education programs.

The Effects of Family and Peer Relationships on Adolescents' Self-Esteem (청소년의 가족 및 또래 요인이 자아존중감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the family and peer relationships on adolescents' self-esteem. The subject of this study were 563 students of second grade of middle school who reside in Bucheon, Geonggi-Do and 532 self reported questionnaires were used for final analysis. The findings of this study suggested that there was no significant difference between male and female adolescents in self-esteem. Second, adolescents' self-esteem were associated with relationship with parents, parental supervision, interparental conflict, friendship quality and peer victimization. Male adolescents' self-esteem was affected by peer victimization, relationship with parents, friendship quality. Female adolescents' self-esteem was affected by relationship with parents, friendship quality and peer victimization.

The Effects of Individual Psychology and Family Variables on Adolescents' Peer Relationships (남녀 청소년의 또래관계에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the gender differences of peer relationship and to analyze the effects of the individual psychology and family variables on adolescents' peer relationships. The subject of this study were 1,444 students of second and third grade of middle school who reside in Seoul and 1,397 self reported questionnaires were used for final analysis. The major results of this study were as follows. First, the findings suggested that there were significant differences between female and male adolescents in peer relationships. Female adolescents' friendship quality was higher than male adolescents', and male adolescents' peer victimization was higher than female adolescents'. Second, higher self-esteem, positive parenting behavior, higher level of parental supervision and lower level of interparental conflict predicted higher level of friendship quality among male and female adolescents. Higher depression, lower self-esteem, positive parenting behavior, lower level of parental supervision and higher level of interparental conflict predicted higher peer victimization among male and female adolescents.

The Relationships of Family and School Environment with Chinese Adolescents' Psychological Well-being (중국 청소년의 가족 및 학교 환경과 심리적 복지 간 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the gender and sibling composition differences in psychological well-being, and to analyze the effects of family and school environment on psychological well-being among Chinese adolescents. Data from 453 students of middle school were used for final analysis. This study found that only child adolescents showed higher levels of self-esteem and low levels of depression than adolescents with sibling. Regression analysis revealed that self-esteem were influenced by relations with teachers, peer relations and marital conflict among male only child adolescents and female adolescents with sibling. Self-esteem of female only child adolescents was affected by parenting behavior and relations with teachers, and self-esteem of male adolescents with sibling was affected by relations with teachers. Relations with teachers and parenting behavior had impact on depression of Chinese adolescents, but depression was not influenced by peer relations.

  • This study of elderly couples examined the main environmental factors affecting the married life satisfaction and life satisfaction of the spouses. The survey was conducted on 60-year-old elderly couples who live in the metropolitan area of Seoul and Gyeonggi. A total of 400 questionnaires were used to analyze the exception of a number of 12 388 additional missing data. The results were as follows. First, environmental factors affecting the marital satisfaction of spouses' personality suitability and gender role attitudes appeared in the economic conditions. Second, the spouses environmental factors affecting the life satisfaction turned out to be the gender role attitude, reliability and economic conditions. Third, the major environmental factors affecting both spouses married life satisfaction and life satisfaction was found to be the gender role attitude and economic conditions. Fourth, the environmental factors representing a moderating effect on the supporting spouse between environmental factors and life satisfaction appeared to be the personality suitability and economic conditions. These results suggest that the recent increases in the twilight divorce rate may be due to the marriage satisfaction and common factors of gender role attitudes. Therefore, to improve the lives and economic conditions as well as the satisfaction of the spouse, the support of important factors are needed to adjust the crisis of old age couples. Therefore, a relevant policy that targets elderly couples through counseling and education will be needed.

  • The husband-wife Marital on Satisfaction is the important influence factor for stable home, family happiness and family management. As for the marital on satisfaction degree between husband-wife about 7,081 who have spouse and can married woman, the satisfaction degree was low, due to home economy state, education level difference from spouse, husband's job, arranged marriage based on parents advice, case that husband is the eldest son, case of wives who have job, conflict and dissatisfaction. In case that they trust and idealize mutually and wives have religion, their satisfaction degree was good.

한국의 이혼율 추이와 의미, 1970~1995

  • 도시화 및 산업화는 가족의 애정기능 증대, 친족관계 약화, 공사영역분리, 여성의 교육수준 향상 및 취업기회 증가, 부부관계의 평등성 추구 등을 통해 이혼을 증가시키는 요인으로 알려져 왔다. 혼인·이혼신고 자료와 인구주택총조사 자료를 활용하여 1970년∼1995년 동안 발생한 한국의 성별, 연령별, 시도별, 교육수준별 이혼율을 비교하였다. 이혼수준을 측정하기 위하여 조이혼율, 일반이혼율, 연령별이혼율, 연령표준화 이혼을 전체인구와 유배우인구를 대상으로 각각 산출하였고, 각종 이혼력 지표의 특성을 논의하였다. 1970년∼1995년 동안 이혼율이 3배 증가하였으며, 1995년 현재 유배우인구 천 명당 3.2건의 이혼이 발생하였다. 동기간 동안 24세 이하 연령층의 이혼율이 가장 높았고, 전 연령층에 걸쳐 빠른 속도로 이혼율이 증가하였는데, 증년층의 이혼율 증가 속도가 가장 빨랐고, 남성보다는 여성의 상대적 이혼율 증가 정도가 더 빨랐다. 시도별 이혼율은 전연령층에 걸쳐 서울, 부산, 인천, 대전, 경기, 제주도가 높았고, 강원도와 전라북도 25∼34세 연령층의 이혼율이 높았다. 교육수준별 이혼율이 남자는 초등학교 졸업집단에서, 여자는 고등학교 졸업 집단에서 가장 높았고, 남자는 대졸 이상 집단, 여자는 무학 집단에서 가장 낮게 나타났다.
