  • This study is to investigate the effects of self-differentiation, marital intimacy, and marital conflict coping strategies on marital satisfaction for remarried married couples. The survey Was conducted from April 4, 2017 to April 25, 2017 for the subject remarried couples aged more then 30years living in Sooul, Gyeonggi province, chungchong province, Jeolla province and Kyeongsang province. 48 questionnaires are distributed and analyzed with SPSS WIN 21. Results of the analysis showed that the higher the level of self-differentiation of the remarried couple, the more positive influence of marital satisfaction on the emotional intimacy and sexual intimacy as the sub-factors of marital intimacy, (-), respectively. As a result of in-depth interviews, low levels of self-differentiation have negative effects on marital satisfaction and marital intimacy, resulting in a vicious cycle in marital conflict. And these results show the possibility of the unified construction of a marital satisfaction improvement program considering self-differentiation, marital intimacy, and marital conflict coping style.

  • This study examined the actor-effects and partner-effects of overt narcissism as a personality factor and conflict resolution styles as an interpersonal factor on marital satisfaction among couples. Data were collected from 337 couples through a survey conducted by a research institute. Structural equation modeling and individual mediation effects were verified using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) in the AMOS 28.0 program. The results of this study are as follows: First, both husbands' and wives' extraversion showed direct self-effects on their own marital satisfaction. Additionally, husbands' overt narcissism demonstrated a direct partner-effect on wives' marital satisfaction. Second, overt narcissism in both husbands and wives showed indirect self-effects through conflict resolution styles on marital satisfaction. Higher levels of husbands' overt narcissism influenced wives' maladaptive conflict resolution styles, which in turn affected marital satisfaction for both husbands and wives. This study highlights the importance of husbands' overt narcissism and wives' conflict resolution styles as significant variables influencing marital satisfaction. It suggests that differentiated interventions considering overt narcissism traits and gender-specific characteristics could potentially enhance marital satisfaction for couples.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influential factors of the marital satisfaction of Korean couples and international couples and the impact of related variables involving marital equity and marital conflicts on marital satisfaction in a bid to give some suggestions on how to keep on leading a happy married life. A survey was conducted from July to September, 2010, and the answer sheets from 79 Korean couples and 79 international couples who numbered 316 were analyzed except for the incomplete answer sheets. The women of the international couples got the best mean scores. When the men and women of the international couples were compared, the women scored significantly higher than the men, which showed that the former group found themselves to put more investment in their marital relationship. Concerning ways of coping with marital conflicts in the groups, conflict intervention by oneself was most prevalent among the men of the international couples and least among the women of the Korean couples. Regarding sex-role attitude and communication, there were no significant differences in sex-role attitude. As to marital satisfaction, the men of the Korean couples got the highest mean scores, and the women of the international couples scored lowest. When the correlation analysis was conducted, the variable that had the closest correlation to marital satisfaction overall was positive problem solving by the spouse(.469), followed by conflict intervention by the spouse(-.453), positive problem solving by oneself(.451), the academic credential of the spouse(.443) and one's own retreat from conflict(-.409). As a result of making the regression analysis to find out which variables affected marital satisfaction, the most predictable variable was communication scores, followed by conflict intervention by the spouse, positive problem solving by oneself, one's own retreat from conflict, the academic credential of the spouse and psychoemotional equity.

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of husbands' emotional abuse on wives' depression and mediating effects of marital adjustment and coping. The subject of this study is wives of men who had completed batterer intervention programs at domestic violence counselling centers. In order to investigate the effect of emotional abuse, among the 116 questionnaires collected by wives the cases in which physical violence was reported were excluded. Ultimately, a total of 77 cases were analyzed using the Partial Least Square method of structural equation model methodology. The key findings from this study are as follows. First, the wives in this study showed a high rate of exposure to emotional abuse by their husbands although the physical violence was gone. Second, emotional abuse by husbands significantly affected depression on their wives. Third, marital adjustment was found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression. Fourth, a mediating effect from passive coping was revealed; in particular, avoiding was the most powerful factor explaining the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression. However, active coping failed to mediate the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression.
