A Study of the Effect of Corrective Counseling Programs for Domestic Violence Offenders and Its Content Analysis (가정폭력 가해자 교정상담 프로그램 효과와 내용 분석에 관한 연구)

  • This dissertation analyzed the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for Korean domestic violence offenders. I conducted a survey of Korean domestic violence offenders scattered throughout the country. The survey period was between Mar Feb. 20, 2006 and Apr. 29, 2006. The specific objects of the survey are the 250 domestic violence offenders who got counseling in the Goyang branch office of the Justice Ministry-affiliated Uijeongbu Probation & Parole Center, Ansan Citizen Welfare Society's domestic violence counseling center, Korea Domestic Violence Counseling Center Association, Korea Women's Hot Line, Korea Family Law Counseling Center and its branch offices throughout the country, and the counseling centers commissioned by the court for domestic violence offenders. The study was based on a poll on 182 of the 250 offenders. The research result includes: First, the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for offenders varies depending upon the age, educational background, location, job, income, and childhood abuse of offenders. In particular, the less experience of childhood abuse leads to greater effect of education. Second, of the types of corrective counseling programs for offenders, the satisfaction for those in couple counseling is the greatest. This is because couple counseling is more influential than individual in the professional education that helps to share and understand couple problems.

Psychiatric Problems in the Student Victims of School Violence and Their Parents (학교폭력 피해학생과 부모의 정신의학적 문제)

  • Objectives : This study was conducted in order to investigate the influences of school violence on the mental health of student victims and their parents. Methods : A total of 56 (aged 7-18) student victims and their parents were selected to participate in a survey. The students had experienced school violence from June 2012 to October 2013. They completed a set of self-report questionnaires, including socio-demographic characteristics, family relationship, Impact of Event Scale-Revised, Child Depression Inventory (CDI), Beck Depression Inventory, Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale, and Parental Bonding Instrument to evaluate psychiatric complications and to understand the emotional bonding between them. Results : The student's level of impact of event was significantly related to the parent's level of impact of event (p<.001). The student's high CDI score showed positive correlation with high level of impact of event (p<.001). In addition, higher level of the student's perceived emotional support and understandability of family showed association with lower level of impact of event (p<.01, p<.05). Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that the psychiatric sequelae of school violence is seriously affected by family support and parent's level of impact of event. Therefore, more active intervention is needed for both students and their parents.

  • A child's mental health is an important element of his proper emotional development. Abuse of children by parents and peer groups are causes of depression and anxiety in children. These conditions become obstacles to their normal growth process which can be a contributing factor to juvenile delinquency. This study is based in the theoretical background of the relationship between abuse from parents and peer groups and children's emotional health. This information is analyzed through structural equation modeling.

  • The purpose of this study is to define the factor giving effect to Adolescent's suicide thinking by grasping the degree of the middle school student's victimization of violence and mental health and physical symptoms. The subjects of this study were 176 persons in middle school students. As collected data was using SPSS Win 17.0 for Hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of this study as follows. school violence, mental health and physical symptoms between the correlation analysis conducted to identify statistically significant results at the level of correlation between variables that were analyzed. school violence impact on suicide thinking. mental health impact on suicide thinking.

A Study on the Intergenerational Transmission of Family Violence (가정폭력의 세대간 전달에 관한 연구)

  • This study examined the intergenerational transmission of family violence. The main focus of this study was on the effect of an experience of childhood violence and the witnessing of interparental violence on the future spouse and child violence. Two hundred and forty-two married couples and 50 married couples with indicted husbands and their wives were surveyed. The results showed that Husbands who had experienced childhood violence from their father and witnessed their father's violence towards their mother tended to inflict more physical violence on their wives than those who did not experience such events. Wives who witnessed violence between both parents' tended to receive more physical violence from their husbands than those who did not witness such events. In addition, wives who did not experience childhood violence but at the same time witnessed interparental violence tended to receive more physical violence from their husbands than those who did not witness such events. Husbands who experienced childhood violence from their mother and both parents and husbands who witnessed their father's violence toward their mother tended to be more violent towards their children than those who did not experience such events. Wives who experienced childhood violence from their mother and father and wives who witnessed violence between both parents tended to be more violent towards their children than those who did not experience such events. These results partially support that the transmission of family violence across generations and show the differential effects of gender and the violent parent's gender on family violence.

Analysis of Protective Factors and Risk Factors Affecting School Adjustment of Immigrant Youths: Moderating Effect of Protective Factors (중도입국 청소년의 학교적응에 영향을 미치는 보호요인과 위험요인 분석: 보호요인의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is a moderating effect of protective factors on risk factors in affecting school adjustment of immigrant youths. For this purpose, this study analyzed 69,720 youths who weighed 6,079 children of youths ages 9-24 among the 2015 National Survey of Multicultural Families. From the results of the analysis, first, the discrimination experience, school violence and depression, which are risk factors of immigrant youths, all had negative effects on school adjustment. Parental relations, self-esteem, Korean language ability, and nationality acquisition, which are protective factors, all had a positive effect on school adjustment. Second, among the three risk factors in the school adjustment of immigrant youths, self-esteem and nationality acquisition variables were analyzed as the protective factors moderating depression, and the protective factors controlling school violence were analyzed as parental relationship, self-esteem, Korean ability and nationality acquisition variables. Based on the results of the analysis, decrease in immigrant youths' depression, coping with academic violence, and development and support of various competency development programs were suggested as major social welfare practices.

The Effect of Domestic Violence Victims on the Career Identiy of teenager using local child center Adolescents: Focusing on the Mediation Effect of Adapting to School Life (가정폭력 피해경험이 지역아동센터 이용 청소년의 진로정체감에 미치는 영향 : 학교생활적응의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of neglect and abuse of parents, a sub-factor of domestic violence victimization experience, on the career identity status, the mediate effects of adapting to school life in the process, and the control effects of the experience of using local children center service experience. To this end, 419 people were extracted from the data of the first year and sixth year of the children's panel at the local children's center. The main analysis results are as follows. First, parents' neglect, a sub-factor of domestic violence damage experience, was found to have a negative mediation effect on youth's sense of direction. Second, adapting to school life are being partially mediate effect in the relationship between neglect of duty and career identity. The practical implications of necessary for the forming career identity for teenager using local child center and the basis data for developing programs were derived.

  • The aim of the study was to explore the effects of parental media mediation types on adolescents' perception of the usefulness of the broadcasting rating system. A total of 520 middle school students participated in the survey. Results showed a higher utility of 'autonomy-supportive restriction' strategy by the parents led to more positive perception of the usefulness of the rating system. This study argues that parents need to pursue a mediation strategy in which a rationale for prohibiting media contents use should be provided and in which the perspective of the adolescent is taken seriously.

  • This paper was intended to identify the knowledge structure of youth-related research by looking at the research trends of research papers published in Korean Journal of Youth Studies from 2010 to 2018. Using keywords extracted from the papers, the Centrality and Cohesion analysis of the keyword network analysis of the NetMiner program were used. In the analysis of degree centrality, the "relationship" was the highest, followed by schools and youth, and high in the order of parents and violence. In the analysis of betweenness centrality, the "relationship" was also the highest, followed by youth, school, need, education, parents, children, abuse/emotion(the same level), institutions, regions, cell phones/prevention/welfare(the same level), elementary, attachment, suicide, addiction, society, violence, children, services, support, policy/teachers(the same level). According to the cohesion analysis, school life and policy, addiction, parent & peer relations, civic education & welfare support, sentiment and thinking, college, abuse & suicide were divided into a total of seven sub-topic subjects.

Classification of Student's School Violence During Middle School: Applying Multilevel Latent Profile Models to Test Individual and School Effects (다층 잠재프로파일 분석을 적용한 중학생의 학교폭력 집단 분류와 개인 및 학교요인 검증)

  • The purposes of this study are to identify the latent classes of school violence depending on bullying and victimized experience by type and the influences of individual-level and school-level variables on determining these latent profiles. For these research goals, the present study utilized data from the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study(SELS) 5th wave, containing data from 2,195 middle school students who experienced school violences more than once. Multilevel latent profile models were applied to examine school violence among students. Our results indicated that there were four latent classes; high-level bullying and victimized group (1.7%), mainly bullying group(2.1%), mainly victimized group(3.7%), verbal bullying and victimized group(92.5%). Gender, resilience, self-control, peer relationship, parental relationship were significant determinants of the latent profiles at student level. Teacher-student relationships, school violence prevention, gender ratio of school were significant determinants of the latent profiles at school level. The present study contributed to extending theoretical discussions by classifying students into groups based on frequency and different forms of bullying and victimization. Moreover, this study examined determinants of student and school level simultaneously by dealing with multilevel data.
