[1]. Recently, most of the pile foundations have been applied as a method to transfer the heavy load of the structure to the ground with high bearing capacity. In this study, the pile-cap behavior between foundation and hollow-head precast reinforced concrete(HPC) pile reinforced with longitudinal rebar and filling concrete was experimentally evaluated depending on the cyclic load and reinforcement ratio. As the drift ratio increases, it was found that the cracks pattern and fracture behavior of two types of pile-cap specimens according to the reinforcement ratio were evaluated to be similar. As the reinforcement ratio increases by 1.77 times, the BS-H25 specimen increases the maximum load by 1.47 times compared to the BS-H19 specimen. However, the ductility ratio of positive and negative was decreased by 76% and 70% respectively. After the yielding of the pile-cap reinforcing rebars, the positive and negative stiffness of the all specimens were decreased by a range from 66% to 71% and a range from 54% to 57% respectively, and the average stiffness of BS-H25 specimen is 13% higher than that of BS-H19 specimen. The cumulative dissipated energy capacity of BS-H19 and BS-H25 specimen under ultimate load state is 5.5 times and 6.6 times higher than that of service load state.

Precise estimation of a structure's dynamic characteristics is indispensable for ensuring stable dynamic responses during lifetime especially for the structures which can experience resonance such as railway bridges. In this paper, the results of forced vibration tests of different excitation methods (vibration exciter and impact hammer) are compared to examine the differences and the cause of differences of extracted natural frequencies. Consequently a natural frequency modification method is suggested to eliminate effects of non-structural disturbance factors. Also, sequential forced vibration tests are performed before and after track construction according to the construction stage of a railway bridge, and the variation of natural frequencies are examined. Effect of added mass of vibration exciter and variation of support condition due to the level of excitation force are concluded as the major cause of natural frequency differences. Thus eliminating these effects can enhance the reliability of the extracted natural frequencies. Construction of track affects not only the mass of structure but also the stiffness of the structure. Also, the amount of increase in stiffness varies according to the level of structural deflection. Therefore, reasonable estimation of the level of structural response during operation is important for precise natural frequency calculation at design phase.

This paper describes test result of the Supersonic Wing Structure and the utility of thermal test equipment, which is possible to heat rapidly and continuously above $1,000^{\circ}C$, the durability and reliability of which are improved compared with the existing equipment. Through the test, we could predict the amount of strength reduction of the wing due to aerodynamic heating, caused by exposure of high temperature. Recently the aerodynamic heating temperature of the supersonic flying object is rapidly increased. It is possible to carry out the High Temperature Strength Test on the hypersonic speed flying object with the newly designed thermal test equipment. Because of that, we can upgrade the High Temperature Strength Structure Test technique and test reliability.

Rain-wind induced cable vibration can cause serious problems in cable-stayed bridges. Externally attached dampers have been used to provide an effective means to suppress the vibration of relatively short stay-cables. For very long stay-cables, however, such damper systems are rendered ineffective, as the dampers need to be attached near the end of cables for aesthetic reasons. This paper investigates a new control system to mitigate the cable vibration. The proposed control system which consists of a laminated rubber bearing and an internal damper may be installed inside of the cable anchorage. A simple analytical model of the cable-damper system is developed first based on the taut string representation of the cable. The response of a cable with the proposed control system is obtained and then compared to those of the cable with and without an external passive damper. The proposed stay-cable vibration control system is shown to perform better than the optimal passive viscous damper, thereby demonstrating its applicability in large cable-stayed bridges for mitigation of rain-wind induced vibration of stay-cables.

Rain-wind induced cable vibration can cause the damages in the cable-stayed bridge due to very little inherent damping characteristics and low fundamental frequency. External Dampers attached to stay cables near anchorages have been shown to be effective means at short stay-cables. However, installation locations of external dampers are limited to a particular range due to aesthetic and practical reasons for very long stay-cables. A recent study by the authors showed that the stay-cable vibration system can perform better than the optimal passive viscous damper, thereby demonstrating its applicability in large cable-stayed bridges. This paper extends the previous study on the taut string representation of the cable by adding cable sag and inclination. The response of the proposed system compared to those of the cable with and without an external damper, and the movable anchorage system provides very effective mitigation of cable vibration. Cable damping ratio is seen to be remarkably reduced by movable anchorage system for a wide range of cable sag. This result shows that the sag effects of the proposed system should be considered.
The added viscoelastic dampers increase damping and stiffness of buildings and results in so called non-classical or non-proportional damping problem. In this system the eigenvectors of the undamped system may not diagonalize the damping matrix, and the system is generally analyzed by converting the equation of motion into a 2n first order state-space form. As this approach is complex and time-consuming compared to the classically damped problem, the system is often analyzed by neglecting the off-diagonal terms in the damping matrix. In this paper the theoretical background of the approximate approach is studied, and the vibration characteristics of a three-story shear building with a viscoelastic damper are investigated using the exact and approximate method. It is found that the approximate method may produce good result when the additional damping is small, but as the damping increases the error also increase.

The modified arc-length algorithms for the automatic incremental solution of nonlinear finite element equations proposed by Riks are presented, which comprise the cylindrical arc-length method and the normal arc-length method. These methods are developed to trace the nonlinear path of large displacement problems such as a pre and post bucking/collapse response of general structures. These methods are applied to analyse the nonlinear behavior of arch and shell problems in parallel with the standard and modified Newton-Raphson method.

Seismic fragility functions are derived for probabilistic evaluation of seismic control performance of energy dissipation devices installed in reinforced concrete structures. Displacement-dependent dampers are added to the nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom systems with different natural periods and hysteretic characteristics of which stiffness and strength has uncertainty. Nonlinear time history analysis is conducted for those SDOF systems and the result is processed statistically to obtain seismic fragility functions in the form of log normal distribution. Variation of seismic fragility functions for different parameters of SDOF systems and dampers are investigated and the seismic control performance is assessed probabilistically.
