Effects of Double Volute on Performance of A Centrifugal Pump (원심펌프의 성능에 대한 더블 볼류트의 영향)

  • In this study, a parametric study of a centrifugal pump with double volute has been performed numerically using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The shear stress transport model was selected as turbulence closure through turbulence model test. The finite volume method and unstructured grid system were used for the numerical analysis. The optimal grid system in the computational domain was determined through a grid dependency test. The expansion coefficient, circumferential and radial starting positions and length of divider were selected as the geometric parameters to be tested. And, the hydraulic efficiency and the radial thrust coefficient were considered as performance parameters. It was found that the radial thrust and hydrualic efficiency are more sensitive to the expansion angle and circumferential starting position of the divider than the other geometrical parameters.

  • The performance analysis of a fuel pump for a liquid rocket engine has been performed numerically on its design condition. A commercial three-dimensional Navier-Stokes flow solver has been used for the computation. All of the fuel pump components - inducer, impeller, volute and secondary flow passages - are included in computation for the accurate estimation of the leakage flow rate which affects the performance and axial thrust. A pitchwise-averaged mixing plane method was used on the boundaries among the fuel pump components to save computational time. The predicted overall performance satisfied the design requirement. However, the axial thrust exceeded a permissible limit. In order to reduce the axial thrust, the secondary flow passage design has been changed. With this change, the axial thrust level has been reduced to 30% as compared with the original value.

  • Generally, marine transmissions contain straight shafts and helical gears, meaning that enginerooms require more space. In order to guarantee a levelengine space for conical involute gears or beveloid gears, both of which are important machine parts, a conical gear was used to replace the traditional cylinder gear. Owing to weak points such as the point contact phenomenon of the teeth, a limitation of the width of each tooth in terms of the addendum, the variational modification coefficient,and the difficulty of processing, research about conical involute gears remains at a standstill. Along with the increasing number of applications of conical involute gears, research on conical gear design technology is necessary. In this paper, in an effort to enhance conical gear design technology, research on the 3D modeling and stress analyses of helical conical involute gears were done.

  • The basic model of impeller was developed for the theoretical analysis of performance. The developed model was tested with two different blade radius of curvature based on the pumping efficiency under the operating conditions in Korea. And the pump performance of the impeller was also tested for the various speeds. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. There was no significant effect on the different blade radius of curvatures on the discharge and pump efficiency. 2. Head and power requirement was increased in proportion to the blade radius of curvature. 3. In the mathematical approach of the blade radius of curvature, the method of involute curve was more recommendable as compared with the method of circular arc curve. 4. The pump efficiency of the model impeller developed based on the theoretical analysis increased about 10% more than that of the existing impeller.

  • In metal working, cold forging that has profit to satisfy dimension accuracy is using in various manufacturing products. Recently, most of the interest thing is precision forging of gear. Gear forging product is more strength than broaching gear, and it has many advantages with reduction of factory expenses. The reason of difficulty to improve accuracy of gear dimension compare to another products is the dimension accuracy is very high, approximately 10$\mu\textrm{m}$, and because die of involute teeth and elastic strain of forged tool differ from standard curve. This paper represent quantitative analysis of die and teeth of forged tool, namely difference of curves, with experiments and analyze the factor of dimension gap, finally, will design compensated involute curve.

  • This study suggests an algorithm for tooth profile generation of free from curve involute gear, a special gear of which the pitch line is a free curve instead of a circular one. For the first, a methodology for calculation of the tooth curve is developed and formulated Then the formulated algorithm, is programmed for manufacturing and verified by computer graphics. Next the calculated results as changed in to NC codes to apply to wire electric discharge machine(WEDM). Finally, the machined gear is examined in engagement with a standard involute gear.

  • A Numerical analysis has been used to predict the performance in the automotive water pump with double discharge single suction. The influence of parameters such as coolant flow rate, rotational speed, ratio of blade height and clearance has been investigated. Also, the prediction of hydraulic performances such as static pressure rise, shaft power, hydraulic power and pump efficiency is carried out on the water pump including an impeller and a volute casing. A full size water pump test bench has been developed to validate the CFD flow model. Discharge flow rate, suction pressure, discharge pressure, rotational speed and torque measurements are provided. Coolant temperature is 8$0^{\circ}C$, water tank pressure is 1 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and flow rates vary.

  • The worm gear is used in the motor drive system of automotive CVVL because of its compactness and self-locking ability. A ZK worm and an involute helical gear can be meshed in order to reduce production cost. However, the gearing is not suitable for the reliability and the NVH problem. To improve the dynamic performances, an optimal design process is considered. The transmission error is calculated theoretically and minimized with the several gear design parameters. An inequality condition such as the teeth interference elimination is added.

  • 하수 처리장에 사용되는 펌프는 엄격한 사양 및 성능 보장이 필요하므로 펌프 효율이 높아야 하며, 실적에 의한 사양 제시, 엄격한 검사 제도 및 기준이 이루어져야 한다. 그러나 현재로서는 국내에서 설계 제작면에서 경험과 실적이 부족하나 앞으로 많은 하수처리장에서 펌프가 소요 되며, 상수도용 펌프와 비교할 때 중소형의 경우에는 고가인 것을 감안하면 볼류트형(volute type)의 슬러지 펌프는 상수용 펌프에서의 경험을 바탕으로 기술 개발에 힘을 기울이고 전무제 작자를 육성하여 기술 축적 및 적절한 설비가 구비되도록 하여 실질적인 품질보증이 이루어지 도록 하여야 한다. 또한 특수펌프인 프로그레싱 캐비티 펌프나 스크류우 펌프에 대하여는 경 험이 부족하므로 프로그레싱 캐비티 펌프의 경우 로우터(rotor)와 스테이터(stator)를 수입하여 조립하거나 스크류유 펌프의 경우 기술 제휴를 통한 기술 개발을 이룩하는 방법을 택할 수도 있을 것이다. 현재 중소제작소에서 일부 기종에 대하여 외국인에 의한 중소기업진흥공단 주관의 단기간 기술지도를 받고 있으나 이에 대한 기술개발을 위하여는 전문기관과 장기적인 기술협력과 기술양성에 대한 투자가 이루어지고 전문업체가 육성되어야 할 것이나 이로서 중요 설비인 펌 프의 국산화가 조기에 달성되고 외화절약 및 기술정착이 이루어질 것이다.
