  • Experiments were conducted to compare ozone sensitivity among clones. Ten clones of Papulus deltoides Marsh. were exposured in walk-in type chambers to charcoal-filtered air, 50ppb, 100ppb, and 150ppb ozone for 8h $day^{-1}$ for 21 consecutive days. Occurrence of premature leaf-fall, and visible foliar injury expressed as adaxial stipple were measured after termination of ozone exposure for 3 weeks. Rate of premature leaf-fall increased progressively according to ozone exposure levels. As a result, rate of premature leaf-fall was estimated over 50% at 150ppb ozone. In the charcoal-filtered air and 50ppb ozone treatments, visible foliar injury was not found. But injury was estimated as LA; 17.3%, AA; 6.5%, and LAA; 1.6% to 100ppb ozone treatment and LA; 34.1%, AA; 17.5%, and LAA; 7.4% to 150ppb ozone treatment. Clonal differences of sensitivity within the species were manifested by significant clone differences of adaxial stipple(LAA) in 100ppb and 150ppb ozone treatments.

  • This experimental work was carried out to know the best method in producing the root stock effectively. The major experimental work was carried out by using Kairyo-Nezumigaeshi, and the comparative works were carried out by using Ichi-Hei, Kairyo-Nezumigaeshi, Ro-Soh, Yongchon-Chuwoo and Suwon No. 4. Results obtained from the test are as follows. 1. The larger size of the branch burried, the better live ratio and the quality of the sapling was found, and there was no significant difference between the top part and bottom part of the branch from the point of view of the ratio, but it was found that the top part showed better live ratio and quality. Mean time there was no difference in live ratio between the two sprouts root-stock type and the three sprouts root-stock type. 2. When the live ratio and sapling quality was compared from the aspect of the new root development, the heavy and medium developed root type showed better result than the poor developed one. 3. For the ambushing depth test of the root-stock, the root-stock which was painted with paraffin on the top and exposed in the air was found to have best live ratio. Mean time, even though paraffin was not painted all the top of the root-stock, the one which was exposed the top of it or the one ambushed with thin soil layer, showed better live ratio than the one deep ambushed. 4. There was difference for the live ratio between the perpendicularly ambushed root-stock and the lied ambushed mot-stock, but the former method showed better sapling quality. 5. The soil nature did not show any difference for the live ratio between the sand loam and clay loam, but the former one showed better sapling quality. 6. There was no difference live ratio between the mulberry varieties, but Yongchon-Chuwoo showed best sapling quality. 7. The grafted sapling production cost was 2.30 won and cattage sapling cost was 1.61 won.

  • Aralia elata (Miq.) SEEM is a deciduous shrub that has attracted attention as a high-income forest product. To improve the efficiency of cultivation and increase income, productivity according to the pruning period and annual pruning after harvesting Aralia elata shoots was analyzed. The optimal time was determined by pruning five times at 2-week intervals from 6 days after shoot harvesting. To investigate the pruning effect, pruning was performed at 30 cm from the ground in the first year after planting. From the second year after planting, branches grown for 1 year were pruned to 10 cm, and the annual shoots and branches were compared. Thenumber of first pruned branches after 6 days was 1.3-2.1 times higher after shoot harvesting than at other times, and the shoot characteristics were 1.2-1.7 times better than those at other periods. The faster the pruning, the better the quality of the harvested shoots. Annual pruning produced high-quality shoots (approximately 1.5 cm in diameter and 16 cm in length) from the second year after planting, and it was possible to increase productivity by inducing generation of branches capable of harvesting shoots. Annual pruning also made it possible to maintain easy shoot harvesting at approximately150 cm. These results showed that it was efficient to perform Aralia elatapruning as early as approximately 6 days after shoot harvesting. Pruning enabled production ofuniform-quality shoots every year and increasedthe yield of the trees.

  • Experiments were conducted to find out the possibilities of producing good quality seed of summer type soybean at Chuncheon, 74m above sea level and Jinboo, 600m above sea level in 1987. Local variety, Cheonan Jaelae was used. Seeds were sown June 25 harvested five times from 35 days after flowering with five days interval to 55 days. Vegetative period was longer in the early planting and high cool area, Jinboo, which resulted longer stem length than the late planting and in the plain area, Chuncheon. Pod number and 100 grain weight were shown more and heavier in Jinboo. Earlier planting and later harvesting resulted more pod number and heaveier 100grain weight. Grain yield was heigher in Jinboo, and earlier plainting shown more grain yield and its difference was greater in Jinboo. Long grain filling duration resulted more grain yield. Unripened seeds were produced more by earlier planting with earlier harvesting and earlier planting with late harvesting showed the high rates of pod and stem blight (Diaporthe Phaseolorum). Seed With high moisture content by early harvesting showed more rotten seeds in all planting dates production was more advantageous in the high cool area, Jinboo. Optimum planting date was between May 15 and June 5. Harvesting was desirable about 45-50 days after flowering with heigher germination rate seed yield.
