  • Zoological parks are considered to be a recreational place for family outings and most importantly the starting place of contact with animals in the modem society. Due to environmental threats and the loss of wildlife habitats, the zoos have significant roles to play in education, research and conservation in addition to the traditional role-entertainment, but research on zoos and their visitors is very limited in Korea. The present study surveyed that the zoo visitors' perceptions of the role of zoos, satisfaction, and behaviors in 6 public zoos, during which 730 zoo visitors were interviewed. The results indicated that the zoos represent an opportunity for family-based trips, enjoyment with family or friends and education that are the primary motives for visiting the zoos. The findings demonstrate that respondents considered the four main roles of zoos namely conservation, education, entertainment, and research to be important and recognize its value for conservation and environmental education. The determinants of satisfaction of zoo visitors were ease of visibility, welfare of captive animals, and the availability of information. Most respondents believed that naturalistic exhibits and animal welfare were very important. In order to reinforce the roles of the zoo in modem society, multidisciplinary efforts are needed to improve the animal welfare, replicate native habitats, and develop various education programs.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the influence age-friendly environment factors on different age groups' life satisfaction. Data were taken from "2014 Survey on the Aged Society", with total of 1,000 participants divided into three groups: 300 youth participants from age 20 to 44, 300 middle aged participants from age 45 to 64, and older adults participants from age 65 and more. Performing ANOVA and multiple regression analysis showed that age-friendly environment factors had positive correlations with life satisfaction, regardless of the participants'age. However, the sub-dimensions of age-friendly environment that affected each age group was different. Among three sub-dimensions of age-friendly environment, which were housing factor, social participation factor, and community and health service factor, only housing factor affected life satisfaction of the youth group, while both community and health service factor, and housing factor affected life satisfaction of the middle-aged and the elderly groups. The result clearly presents that age-friendly environment factors are not only beneficial for older people but for people at all ages. Therefore, various measures need to be taken in order to increase the age-friendliness of communities, and improve the quality of life.

  • This study aims to categorize the daily time use of older adults into different types, examine the factors influencing them and the differences between them by type, and verify the effect of each type on life satisfaction. From the 6th wave of the Korea Retirement and Income Study (KeRIS), analysis was conducted on 3,963 older adults aged 65 (n=3,963). Using Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), three types of daily time use for older adults were identified: basic life maintenance type (16%), free-leisure oriented type (26%), and social activity type (58%). From the results of multinomial logistic regression analysis to identify the factors influencing each type of daily time use, it was found that the main factors influencing free-leisure oriented type, when compared with basic life maintenance type, were the presence of spouse (p<.01) and psychological health status (p<.001). The main factors influencing social activity type, when compared with basic life maintenance type, were age (p<.05), economic activity (p<.001), and chronic disease (p<.001). The life satisfaction seen during free-leisure oriented time and social activity time was higher than that during basic life maintenance time. From these findings, practical and policy proposals were suggested to improve life satisfaction of older adults during basic life maintenance time by pursuing changes in the use of that time.

The results of this study are as follows. First, it was analyzed that the individual development of job rotation did not significantly affect job satisfaction. Second, it was found that work efficiency fully mediated the relationship between individual development of job rotation and job satisfaction. • With increasing elderly living with diabetes, health professionals have focused on the relations between behaviors improving health status and life satisfaction. This research attempts to explain the influence of the health promotion behaviors on the life satisfaction of the elderly with diabetes. Also, we are focusing whether there is a mediating effect of depression between health promotion behaviors and life satisfaction of the elderly with diabetes. 685 persons with diabetes over 60 years of age were selected from the data of KLoSA (Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing), administered by The National Institute of Labor in 2006. Life satisfaction was measured by 5 items: health status, economic status, relationship with a spouse, relationship with children, and the quality of life. Health promotion behaviors were measured by 4 items: regular diet, exercise, smoking, and drinking. The mediating variable is the depression measured by CES-D10. As the method of analysis, the multiple regressions were used with SPSS 12.0. The result of the study shows that the health promotion behaviors have a positive influence on life satisfaction and a negative influence on depression. It was also verified that the depression variable has a partial mediating effect between health promotion behaviors and life satisfaction. These results present the importance of integrated (physical, psychological, and social) approach for the health promotion experts intervening with the elderly with diabetes.

  • In this investigation of child's psychological wellbeing and parental satisfaction with dual income family(DIF), subjects were 297 3rd and 5th grade elementary school students and their mothers. Results showed that boys and younger children were more satisfied with mother's working than girls and older children. Mothers' DIF satisfaction was dependent on gross family income, parents' occupations, working conditions of each parent, commuter marriage status, and length of time in DIF. Child's psychological wellbeing related positively to mother's parental satisfaction, and to mother's satisfaction with parental roles, parent-child relationships, spouse support and child support. Only sub factors of dilemmas in parental role related negatively to DIF status. Child's satisfaction with mother's roles, father's roles, and mother working influenced mother's parental role satisfaction.
