Improved Correlation Noise Modeling for Transform-Domain Wyner-Ziv Coding (변환영역에서의 Wyner-Ziv 코딩을 위한 개선된 상관 잡음 모델)

  • 최근 센서네트워크와 같은 에너지 제한 환경을 위한 경량화 부호화 기술의 필요성이 대두됨에 따라 분산 소스 부호화 기술(Distributed Source Coding)의 응용기술로 비디오 부호화 복잡도의 대부분을 차지하는 움직임 예측/보상과정을 부호화기가 아닌 복호화기에서 수행하는 분산 비디오 부호화 기술(Distributed Video Coding)에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어져 왔다. 이에 가장 대표적인 기술인 Wyner-Ziv 코딩 기술은 채널 코드를 이용하여 원본 프레임과 이에 대한 복호화기의 예측영상인 보조정보 사이의 잡음을 제거하여 영상을 복원한다. 일반적으로 보조정보는 원본영상에 유사한 키 프레임간의 프레임 보간을 통하여 생성되며 채널 코드는 Shannon limit에 근접한 성능을 보이는 Turbo 코드나 LDPC 코드가 사용된다. 이와 같은 채널 코드의 복호화는 채널 잡음 모델에 기반하여 수행되어지며 Wyner-Ziv 코딩 기술에서는 이 채널 잡음 모델을 '상관 잡음 모델' (Correlation Noise Modeling)이라 하고 일반적으로 Laplacian이나 Gaussian으로 모델화 한다. 하지만 복호화기에는 원본 영상에 대한 정보가 없기 때문에 정확한 상관 잡음 모델을 알 수 없으며 잡음 모델에 대한 예측의 부정확성은 잡음 제거를 위한 패리티 비트의 증가를 야기해 부호화 기술의 압축 성능 저하를 가져온다. 이에 본 논문은 원본 프레임과 보조정보 사이의 잡음을 정확하게 예측하여 잡음을 정정할 수 있는 향상된 상관 잡음 모델을 제안한다. 제안 방법은 잘못된 잡음 예측에 의해 Laplacian 계수가 너무 커지는 것을 방지하면서 영상내의 잡음의 유무에 별다른 영향을 받지 않는 새로운 문턱값을 사용한다. 다양한 영상에 대한 제안 방법의 실험 결과는 평균적으로 약 0.35dB에 해당하는 율-왜곡 성능 향상을 보여주었다.

  • Feature detection is recognized as an accurate spectrum sensing approach when the information of the desired signal is partly known at the receiver. This type of detection was proposed to overcome large noise environment. Cyclostationary detection is an example of feature detection in spectrum sensing technique in cognitive radio. However, the cyclostationary process calculation requires a lot of processing time and information about the designed signals. On the other hand, energy detection spectrum sensing is widely known as a simple and compact spectrum sensing technique. However, energy detection is highly affected by large noise and lead to high detection error probability. In this paper, the combination of energy detection and cyclostationary is proposed in order to increase the accuracy and decrease the calculation and processing time. The two-layer threshold is utilized in order to reduce the complexity of computation and processing time in cyclostationary which can lead to the improved throughput of the system. The simulation result shows that the implementation of energy-based cyclostationary detector can help to improve the performance of the system while it can considerably reduce the required time for signal detection.

  • In this paper, an image segmentation algorithm is described to extract both the contour line and the inner grid patterns of body in case of ambiguous environment. The binary method using a threshold is used to extract image boundary. To reduce image noise, the $3{\times}3$ hybrid high pass filter adjusted for applying 3D information extraction of complicated shape object is proposed. This hybrid high pass filter algorithm can be applied to extract complicated shape object such as 3D body shape, CAD system, and factory automation since the processing time for image denoising is shorter than the conventional methods.

  • 영상 압축은 멀티미디어 실시간 전송에 있어서 핵심적인 기술이다. 동영상 압축 기술 중 움직임 예측 부분은 가장 계산량이 많고 가장 복잡한 부분으로 실시간 전송을 위해서는 고속 알고리즘이 필요한 부분이다. 본 논문은 기존의 움직임 예측 알고리즘의 하나인 이진 블록 정합 움직임 예측 알고리즘 중 2bit 변환을 개선하여 더욱 빠른 알고리즘을 제안한다. 기존의 2bit 변환 알고리즘은 현재 프레임과 이전 프레임의 블록에 윈도우를 씌어 각 프레임의 윈도우에서 구한 평균과 표준편차를 가지고 각각 2bit 변환을 하였다. 그러나 본 논문은 현재 프레임과 이전 프레임의 블록에 윈도우를 씌우고 현재 프레임의 윈도우에서 구한 평균과 표준편차를 이전 프레임에 적용을 시켜 같은 평균과 표준편차를 이용하여 기존의 알고리즘을 개선한다. 제안하는 알고리즘은 계산량의 감소와 동시에 화질을 유지시킨다.

A Research on the FCB Detection Algorithm for the GSM Mobile System (GSM 무선시스템에서 주파수정정 버스트 (FCB) 검출 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we have proposed a FCB detection algorithm for the GSM system which is european cellular standard. The detection algorithm can be implemented using received signal sampler, correlator, and post detection combiner. GSM mobile phone can use the proposed algorithm for detection of the Broadcasting Channel, and to obtain the initial timing estimate. The proposed algorithm has a architecture which is suitable for DSP or ASIC implementation, and required memory size is small. The performance of the algorithm is a function of the processing data window size and the threshold values. Proper window size and the threshold values can be determined by analyzing the correlator and combiner. The proposed algorithm has been implemented using DSP, and the performance was verified using baseband simulation. The simulation assumed frequency offset values of 0ppm and 15ppm with the receiver filter bandwidth set at both minimum and maximum. It is shown that the algorithm is robust under various assumptions, and suitable for real implementations.

Performance Improvement of Fractal Dimension Estimator Based on a New Sampling Method (새로운 샘플링법에 기초한 프랙탈 차원 추정자의 정도 개선)

  • Fractal theory has been widely used to quantify the complexity of remotely sensed digital elevation models and images. Despite successful applications of fractals to a variety of fields including computer graphics, engineering and geosciences, the performance of fractal estimators depends highly on data sampling. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for computing the fractal dimension based on the triangular prism method and a new sampling method. The proposed sampling method combines existing two methods, that is, the geometric step method and the divisor step method to increase pixel utilization. In addition, while the existing estimation methods are based on $N{\times}M$ window, the proposed method expands to $N{\times}M$ window. The proposed method is applied to generated fractal DEM, Brodatz's image DB and real images taken in the campus to demonstrate its feasibility.

  • This paper presents an automatic facial feature point extraction algorithm in sequential color images. To extract facial region in the video sequence, a moving color detection technique is proposed that emphasize moving skin color region by applying motion detection algorithm on the skin-color transformed images. The threshold value for the pixel difference detection is also decided according to the transformed pixel value that represents the probability of the desired color information. Eye candidate regions are selected using both of the black/white color information inside the skin-color region and the valley information of the moving skin region detected using morphological operators. Eye region is finally decided by the geometrical relationship of the eyes and color histogram. To decide the exact feature points, the PCA(Principal Component Analysis) is used on each eye and mouth regions. Experimental results show that the feature points of eye and mouth can be obtained correctly irrespective of background, direction and size of face.

  • Conventional cooperative communications can attain gain of spatial diversity and path loss reduction because destination node independently received same signal from source node and relay node located between source node and destination node. However, these techniques bring about decreased spectral efficiency with relay node and increased complexity of receiver by using maximal ratio combining (MRC). This paper has proposed cooperative ARQ protocol that can improve the above problems and can get the better performance. This method can increase the spectral efficiency than conventional cooperative communication because if the received signal from source node is satisfied by the destination preferentially, the destination transmits ACK message to both relay node and source node and then recovers the received signal. In addition, if ARQ message indicates NACK relay node operates selective retransmission and we can increase reliability of system compared with that of general ARQ protocol in which source node retransmits data. In the proposed protocol, the selective retransmission and ARQ message are to be determined by comparing log-likelihood ratio (LLR) computation of received signal from source node with predetermined threshold values. Therefore, this protocol don't waste redundant bandwidth with CRC code and can reduce complexity of receiver without MRC. We verified spectral efficiency and BER performance for the proposed protocol through Monte-Carlo simulation over Rayleigh fading plus AWGN.

Packet Detection and Frequency Offset Estimation/Correction Architecture Design and Analysis for OFDM-based WPAN Systems (OFDM-기반 WPAN 시스템을 위한 패킷 검출 및 반송파 주파수 옵셋 추정/보정 구조 설계 및 분석)

  • This paper presents packet detection, frequency offset estimation architecture and performance analysis for OFDM-based wireless personal area network (WPAN) systems. Packet detection structure is used to find the start point of a packet exactly in WPAN system as the correlation value passes the constant threshold value. The applied autocorrelation structure of the algorithm can be implemented simply compared to conventional packet detection algorithms. The proposed frequency offset estimation architecture is designed for phase rotation process structure, internal bit reduction to reduce hardware size and the frequency offset adjustment block to reduce look-up table size unlike the conventional structure. If the received signal can be compensated by estimated frequency offset through the correction block, it can reduce the impact on the frequency offset. Through the performance result, the proposed structure has lower hardware complexity and gate count compared to the conventional structure. Thus, the proposed structure for OFDM-based WPAN systems can be applied to the initial synchronization process and high-speed low-power WPAN chips.

AE Source Location in Anisotropic Plates by Using Nonlinear Analysis (비선형방정식을 이용한 이방성판의 음향방출 위치표정)

  • For the conventional two-dimensional source location of acoustic emission (AE) based on the threshold crossing, wave velocity has to be measured in the actual structure to calculate the arrival-time difference and thus to form the two hyperbolae. Velocity is dependent on the fiber orientation, however, due to the dependence of elastic modulus on fiber orientation in anisotropic materials such as compost#e plates. This tan affect the accuracy of AE source location and make the source location procedure complicated. In this study, we propose a method to reduce the location error in anisotropic plates by using the numerical solution of nonlinear equations, where the velocity term has been removed by employing the fourth sensor. The efficiency and validity of the proposed method has also been experimentally verified.
